There are two things wrong with this tablet, or rather two very important things to note that I can think of, And those things are battery life and price. I don't know how long the battery lasts, but I can imagine it isn't near the average toy tablet run time. And there is price. The HP touch-pad fire sale taught us that prices need to go down on tablets, not up. $1000 bucks just isn't going to fly with most folks.
People have been looking for a widescreen wireless Cintiq for what seems like forever now and Wacom just kept shoveling the same aging tech. This looks good but...
The tech in this and all tablet PCs are way overpriced compared to laptops with similar/better specs minus the touch interface and pen. If it was $200 I could live with it; $300 if it used the newer tech. But $400? Is a $400+ premium really worth touch input and an outdated version of Wacom's pen input? $1K is just too much.
If one has no need for a touch screen or ink technology then the EP121 wouldn't be a good device for one. However the pen technology works very well and there's simply no other device at $1000 that does what the EP121 does. If you need what the EP121 does it's not overpriced at all.
The ASUS EP121 is the biggest piece of shit since the Wacom Cintiq! I have now gone through two units that both ahve the same pen tracking error. It is so far off with tracking that you can not physically configure it to track correctly because it clicks off the physichal screen when you click on the Wacom callibration utility.
That is TWO units in a row with EXACTLY the same issue. DO not buy this as a replacement for your Cintiq... it is actually worse for tracking!
Man I hated your TM2 review, today you have redeemed yourself.. objective and informative full review.best one out there. thanks alot.. also question how can you get 5.1 surrond out of such a system?
@ultraret I think you should take a hard look at the battery life of 2 to 4 hours. This thing is a power hog. I'd rather carry a netbook with an 8 hour battery life than this thing. My IPad's battery is 10 hours and it is even longer if you use it a certain way. Again, windows is OK, this tablet is OK, but appears to be more like a prototype than a finalized product. Shame on Asus on a thumbs down product. Nice attempt tough, but you will need far more to compete with Apple.
i just got one love it worth the wait from a 20 day back order
the only weakness is at 50% brightness it has a 2.20 hour battery life and at 40% brightness which i regard as the bare minimum before you need corrective eye surgery will last 2.50-3.10 hours
note you can turn off the touch function its very annoying when using the pen as the PC gets confused over the pen and your wrist
In general desktop use I'm seeing between 3.5 to 4 hours with both WiFi and Bluetooth radios on in Balanced Mode. I've not tried more aggressive power saving measures but 5 hours of practical use out of this device seems reasonable. Not good battery life compared to a mobile OS device but not bad for a 2.6 lbs. Core i5 machine.
Really like your reviews. Think you can do one purely on multimedia playback? I know you've showed some 720p vids, but I was wondering if this beast can handle those high bitrate 1080p movies/trailers. Wondering if VLC with accelerated video output option on can run action scenes stutter free. Hope to see more vids soon.
Only problem with Windows Tablets is battery life. Windows tablets suffer from not having new touch based applications, Microsoft could solve that problem today, by adding tablet based applications to the Windows Marketplace app store.
i was in a loop between this and the samsung slate 7 , got the last one and very happy with it

Adobe Reader X works on my EP121, even the side panel with one finger scrolling.

the pinch-zoom lag is due to a problem within the browsers. It is not the tablet's fault...
