  • I have had both, 2, 1986 FJ1200's and 1, 2006 V-Max. The V-Max is quicker, the FJ is faster.

  • @adamvmax Nothing to do with picking up a horse or two. I wanted something that sounded better. ;) At the time, this sounded great. I had Cobras on it before from the previous owner. Loved the look, not the sound. If I could do it again, I'd go with one of those new UFO slashcut systems. But, tastes will vary, eh? =) Thanks for the comment, and ride safe!

  • @EmperorGix i have a 4-1 kerker and a stage 7 jet kit and my max sounds bad azz sounds like a v8 dragster with str8s. i had an 88 with the cobras they sound better than stock and people will hear you moving

  • My ZL 1000 was quicker ..but not comfortable ....that's were the Max dominates ..ohhh & it's much prettier !! Does anyone know of any inherent problems with the 96 model ? ..lookin at buyin one with 12000 ks on it ( hard to believe !)

  • i'm a newbie to motor bike, i just bought a scooter and i'm in love with the 2 wheelers, i now understand then they say it's freedom.I'm looking at 1990 Vmax as my first motor bike, should i get one since i'm a newbie?

    I definitely would NOT recommend a VMax as a First Bike. WAY too powerful for someone just starting out. I would recommend a 250CC or maybe a 500CC and once you've ridden it for a couple of years then slowly progress to a 600CC maybe a Honda Shadow 700CC before graduating to a VMax. That's how most people start out and really the proper way so you can build yourself up to the weight and power of a VMax. The Vmax weighs 620 lbs and has 145 HP, that's alot for a seasoned rider.

  • @PrinceDumbass I have indeed. Sorry to hear you let the Max go! From what I hear, it doesn't happen to the later model Maxes. As far as satisfactory fixes, there's a couple. I've heard of folks using an o-ring of a different size, of Kawasaki make I believe, as well as some sort of an 'elbow' device. There's probably more, but Google knows more than I do. ;)

  • Cobra's suck ass but UFO's Quadzillas make the grade. Add a little NOS, some flatslides and maybe some chrome and you've got the great American two -wheel Musclecar.

  • @TheLovelyLivable Heh. Well, performance aside, they sounded good to me, if a little quiet. While I may think that your suggestion is awesome, and I'd love to do just that, the UFO's are at least $1,300 USD just for the exhaust system. Tack on the rest of that list, and the $400 for the Cobras looks like pocket change. ;) But no doubt, it'd make the beastly Max even more so. Shiny side up!

  • Does anybody know whats faster, a V-max or FJ1200? These bike are similar in HORES POWER, but the FJ1200 is lighter in weight.

  • @justinbillington While I can't really speak from experience, scuttlebutt says the Max would win this match-up, given riders of equal skill. One of the main reasons being that the FJ1200 is geared a bit longer. Again, this is not from experience, just an extrapolation. =) If anyone has any proof for or against, please, respond to this video! I'm sure we'd all love to know the answer, even if just for shiggles.

  • @EmperorGix i had an fj1200 and itll beat the vmax in any situation, the fj1200 was very fast in its day with a speed of close to 130 in the 1/4 mile mine was a brand new 1987, only had a top speed of right around 140 but it was also only a 5 speed and air cooled, but wow it would accelerate, i also have a 2008 hayabusa so i knoiw what speed and power is and the fj1200 accelerated hard and very smooth..

  • @justinbillington never rode an FJ1200. i have a '97 V-Max. all i know is that the V-Max definitely looks better! lol!

  • @justinbillington in the straights the max will out perform the fj in shorter than mile runs but the fj has much longer legs and will run fast in long distance but it takes time to catch the max first tho

  • I put a 4 into 1 Hindle on mine.. Sounded just out of this world and lifted the horse power.....

  • gix- I have a VMAX and was considering switching the stock exhaust out to the Cobras. Love the looks, sounds much better than stock. Everyone says you lose some horsepower. Did you notice any difference in power?

  • To tell you the truth, I bought the bike used - 1500 miles on it - Cobras already on it. I have no idea how it felt stock, and I too have heard that you lose a bit of power - I never validated the claim though. But it was a beast then, and once I put on the Holeshots, I noticed a difference - a gain - by my highly technical "Seat-Of-The-Pants" dyno. ;)

    I loved the slashcuts, too. If you wanna keep the slashcut look, and (from what I've read) gain some power, look into the UFO system. Cheers!

  • There are two types of bike owners. Some, like me, love their bike and keep it in perfect condition, and others are stupid and let their bike sit in the rain and rust. It seems like all V-max owners love the shit out of their bikes and not only take care of them but also make them even more awesomer! Your bike is THE shit! Very cool. I may need one of these!

  • Uhm you also have bikers who actualy use their bike as main transport rain, no rain, snow, thunder, whatever. And when that biker doenst have a nice garage yeah what ya going to do?

  • I also love my bike but I don't like it to look like washed and polished every day. I love it when theres dirt and oil on it. I also love the scratches on the fuel-tank because u know the bike is in use. And servicing is also important for me since I want the bike running and rollin'

  • its almost just like a streetfighter which looks pretty much the same way as you described this bike. but with just a little more mean look/ more visable frame

  • That's one of the quickest ways to explain the VMax to someone unfamiliar with the bike. "It's like a sport bike and a cruiser put together." ;)

  • Ah mate, if I could I would... Sadly, I no longer have these pipes. (Well, I have them, but they're just sitting around collecting dust. ;) )

  • With the Cobra Exhaust you dont need to rejet. If anything the Cobra slip ons kill horsepower on the VMAX and causes it to run to rich.

  • Well, I'm the second owner. Some of the bikes had a poor attachment job done with the anniversary plaque. Mine was one such bike. It flew off and the previous owner got a new one put on. For obvious reasons, it didn't come with the number engraved on it. I've tried to figure it out with serial/VIN numbers, but with no luck. =) Any ideas?

    The VMAX is an awesome bike though!!

  • You don't HAVE to rejet, but it should be done whenever the air-flow is changed. (Here, speaking about the exhaust.) Thakns for watching!

  • Vmax is one of the most bad ass sounding bikes out there. The only one that sounds any better IMHO is the Valkyrie.

  • I had to find out, listened to the valk vids on here and they sound about the same as some Vmax pipes, the six into six sounds the best, but man that bike is a huge pig of a bike!!

  • Please don't swear, sir. This is almost a year old. Requests for remakes should have been handled sooner. I would remake it, but I no longer have that exhaust attached to my motorcycle. Have a great day.

  • Dude... your a saint for even putting it out there that would consider making a version with out music. Do what you do, and forget complaining youtubers... they are the worst!

  • Ok I got it :) Can't wait for mine to get here. I heard from a friend overseas that there's a "DynoJet" kit for the carbs, sorta like a power commander for EFi's. Says that it tremendously helps the bike reach the 6k rpm mark fast therefore turning on the Vboost quicker.

  • But dosen't the VBoost engage only at 6,000rpm and not at ignition? Just curious, I have a Vmax coming by next month. Thanks!

  • Indeed, those were my words, and perhaps I should have used better wording. When you turn the key in the ignition, you may or may not hear the fuel pump, (it'll sound like a series of clicks,) but you should always hear the VBoost servos cycle open and close. Make sure you wait until they're done cycling to start it up. You don't need to wait as long as I did. I just forgot the press the starter after they were done. Heh heh.

  • I love the looks of the cobras, but I dig the sound my stock exhaust a lot despite the weight.

  • Mine came w/ Cobras. They do look tough but I've heard they actually take away hp. On a cool evening I ran consistent 111-112mph in the 1/4 mi. No other mods so I believe it.

  • Cobra pipes blow! The only good sound is out of a Kerker

  • Enjoy it! They're one of a limited number. // Yeah. The previous owner put them on, but didn't jet them. I pulled 'em off recently and added Holeshots. Jetted them and added a K&N. Best money and time I've ever spent on my Max.
