  • I don't use it but I quite like it as a vocal effect actually.

  • She sounds way better without that crap.

  • if you weren't looking for it you wouldn't notice it

  • excellent. love it. you've got to hear it several times to fully get it. the melodyne pitch correction is magic!

  • The singer is a bad example for showcasing melodyne...

Not because she sang horribly, but because she sang great, and doesn't really need pitch correction...

  • She sings good either way... no great difference between the original and melodyne processed vocals. Unless you over do it.

  • A mulher ta brilhando '-'

  • Am I the only one that notices you overused a deesser or did something really poorly and gave her a huge lisp?

  • beind my maaFFk

  • to much.

  • Someone please tell me what is going the fuck on at 0:14? Did she take an arrow in the knee? Did she go to that weird part of youtube again? Was she FIRST? Did she like the part when 0:14? Did 49 people not comprehend 0:14?

  • lol 0:15

  • This is like auto-tune except not annoying... o.o She is a good singer regardless but this looks neat

  • She sounds better without Melodyne. I like Melodyne for some things, but it's not needed here. It ruins her vocals.

  • @leneia Really? Well, she sounds great, regardless, I have to say. :)

  • First of all,she doesn't need Melodyne on her vocals.. She has a great voice , its called vocal production ...in editing maybe in graphic mode to clean up ...it sounds like an older keke sheard record

  • I have to say that she wasn't bad before, except her changing keys near the end. But, honestly, Melodyne was more designed to save recording time because no singer EVER has a perfect performance.

At least it should be used ONLY for saving time and not to make stars out of talentless snobs.

  • @SimeonMallette Keep in mind that you're only hearing part of her original recording. I activated Melodyne when she sounded her worst. She actually changed keys in the other parts too, but you don't hear it, because I corrected it with Melodyne.

  • Melodyne (and every other pitch correction software) sounds much better on a vocal that isn't 'corrected' as much. this example isn't great because she's singing acapella. it's a bit different when you're tuning a vocal that has been recorded to music that's already in tune (assuming the singer can actually hold a note) because they have something to reference while performing.

  • justin bieber has melodyne to keep him in key most noticably on his new song with mariah carey.

  • Jabberjaw @ 00:15

  • How often is melodyne used in pro audio?

  • @klasse2bub More often than you'd think.

  • @klasse2bub On every professional song. You can either use it in a way that one realises it or in a very subtle way. The second method is the more common one. It's just a few clicks, so why should a producer take a risk releasing a record without having melodyned it? ;-)

  • @klasse2bub These days in almost every 7 out of 10 tracks. Just imagine all these trance and house stuff, all done with melodyne, those people cant sing AT ALL.

  • @klasse2bub On every song you hear, theres have been some autocorrection to it.

  • Exellent!!! kosstheory, Thank you!!!

  • Does it remove lisps?

  • at least pitch correction doesn't sound as bad, or isn't as strong as autotune..

  • @UNevan autotune IS pitch correction

  • @rolande1990 i meant to say at least melodyne doesn't sound as bad.

  • the original is so much better!

  • the difference is amazing!

  • She's already a great singer?? lol

  • 0:13 OM NOM NOM NOM

  • a beautiful voice is like a beautiful face..It' s the tiny imperfections that give it character and appeal.

  • @limpiomott2 hmmmm... no...

  • Shes a pretty good singer but Melodyne does VERY good pitch correction. You don't get that weird robotic sound with it.

  • glee uses it

  • The ending parts 0:54 and up showing both examples, I can hear where Melodyne comes at play. In the Melodyne it gave it a better example to where she could have headed, in terms musical notes, like the second time her tone (high pitch part) @1:07-1:12 was WAY more emotional. Gave I an emotional appeal. get me?

  • @DanielAvilaAGT Finally, someone that gets it! But I suppose if everyone got it, music wouldn't be so crappy these days.

  • not much difference!

good singers dont need pitch correction:)!

  • Sounds synthetic. Why you would edit a person with beautiful intonation and pitch I don't know but, whatever :)

  • not much of a difference..

  • wow I couldn't hear a difference. she's already singing in tune

  • makes me less impressed with the vocalist. And anyway, there is a such thing as too perfect!!!

  • the pitch correction sounds like its in the wrong scale

  • @rolande1990 That's probably because she was singing off-pitch less than half-tones so when Melodyne corrected to 440 (which I assume it does), the key changed slightly.

  • Why does she need a pitch correction, probably a couple classes would do, she sings very well.

  • she doesnt need pitch correction. She is an incredible singer. i can hear the difference. she sounds like a sax when auto tuned. Imperfections are perfect.

  • Woaaaaaaaaaaah I love heeer!

    She's so great! Real singers

(which include her) usually suck when

    Autotuned..

  • I prefer the NON corrected version...

  • If you use correction pitch in 1 or 2 notes maximum ok, but if you use correction pitch in all vocal line, the whole thing lost the human natural feeling....

  • wtf. why using a video from someone who can sing?

  • i rather the original. Great voice though

  • Great video, very instructive. I wonder why people are annoyed by this kind of informative content that shows us that what we hear today isn't real. Working on getting good pitch is very difficult and it's great there are tools like Melodyne to make it easier, isn't it?

  • Definitely love all of this without the change, the end is awesome as it is, I hate the obsession with computerizing vocals!

  • 25 likes versus 25 dislikes.

Good job guys on perfect balance. And I agree that 0:13 is a total wtf and lol moment.

  • At 1:09 , listen. 'Father, please hear my plee'. Listen to the plee. Somebody fails at their job.

  • hahahaahahahahhahahahahaahahahahahhaha @ 0:15 scared the fucking shit out of me!!!!

  • haha melodyne sucks she sounds better original. and wtf 0:15..?

  • 0:13 lol? :DDD

  • 0:15 lol? :DDD

  • @Maanhtje So, you've had conversations with her? LOL...unbelievable how many people talk out of their asses on the internet.

  • @kosstheory You're so dumb omg, I don't even know why I respnd to this but okay...If you listen to the difference between the ORIGINAL version and the MELODYNE one, I can clearly hear a difference, since Melodyne makes it sound like she speaks with a lisp. If you don't get that you're the one who's talking shit.

  • girl sound amazing without it

  • Was it only me being the one who thought she sounded hell lot of better WITHOUT that thing? :S

  • Ol girl sounded good without the correction to me...I heard the difference on the end, but I wouldn't say it sounded better

  • Mulher cebosa, faz muita firula, e esse final fico horrível, nossa.

  • It sounds really artificial and easy to know that is a soft-changed sound/voice. Negative vote for me.

  • If the general public knew good pitch, half the crap that's on the radio wouldn't be.

  • @kosstheory the general public don't care about tuned stuff. they just wanna hear music

  • 1:09 sounded absolutely horrifying.

  • Why don't you just find someone who can sing on pitch?

  • @eisenei Why don't you?

  • @eisenei no human can possibly sing in perfect key it just cant be done. the sad fact is people are now so used to hearing pitch corrected music it sounds normal and is expected so that actually great singers dont sound as good

  • @eisenei cos even pro singers can go wrong and if u got a good run on recording apart from one note, its way easier just to quickly correct it...

  • she was jumping out of key a couple of times herself

  • @LBloggie Prove it.

  • @kosstheory its technicality vs opinion it cant be proven

  • @LBloggie Almost right. It's actually pure speculation on your part. I'm the only one with a record of what her original recording sounded like. So, it follows that no one else on this thread can judge whether or not it was better. You've all only heard half of her performance. I only asked you to prove it, because I knew you couldn't. If I felt like finding the tape I could make a video that would show every time she was off, and by how much. Melodyne made her performance tolerable.

  • @kosstheory well in the first part of you video it said "original", or did I read wrong? I think what he meant was that -that- part of the original sounded better than the part at the end, and I agree.

I'm not saying that the part at the end is bad; you did a great job; but LBloggie is right and you're wrong.

Personally I think she sucks either way but I'd prefer not to get into that since that's a matter of opinion, but the "original end" piece sounds better than the end piece of the video.

  • @kosstheory It has 14 thumbs up, is that enough proof.

  • @JoshuaWGLloyd and 18 down, is it?

  • I liked the original better as well. The melodyne version went into another key for a min. and sounded robotic. With Gospel soulful singers you got to be careful when editing pitch and vibrato. As an R&B gospel musician/singer myself know that if you take the feel away from soulful singing for perfecting the notes, it's no longer soulful...

  • @MISTAMUSIK She drifted into different keys herself. I just tried to make the best of it. I think I was amazed that I was able to do this without making her sound like T. Payne.

  • @MISTAMUSIK She is singing an more than on key anyway.

i don't like either. No offence and good luck

  • Holy sh*t, I can see my own reflection in her face!

  • she tries to stuff up and doesnt do good enuff, as shes still in key, its jus wrong key.

  • thumbs up for what hapens at 15 secs

  • Melodyne made it sound like she had a lisp at some points.

  • @BlueFlashProductions No, she made it sound like she had a lisp at some points.

  • I don't think that the melodyne feature messed it up. I think that you just made the vocals "too" perfect, if that makes sense. Doesn't mean you're a bad engineer. In Melodyne, there is a modulation line. It's probably pretty straight on this recording. As you know, the straighter it is, the more "perfect" and smooth it sounds. Just try to make it less straight and it will be barely noticable that you used pitch correction. The notes will still be in the correect pitch, don't worry.

  • @loicome I didn't even mess with the modulation, her lines were where she put them with her own voice.

  • OMG LUV THE ENDING lol sound a lil like brandy on the very last note ^__^

  • ROOOFL 0:16

  • First off, I am a melodyne owner, user, and lover. Its a great piece of software, really is.

But, you severely messed this preformance up with melodyne IMO. especially the ending. 1:10, the very first lick of "plee." It sounds extremely "processed" and unnatural. Partially due to your editing skills with melodyne (no offense, I'm just saying you could have made that transition much smoother).

  • One point i want to mention is that having a "perfect" view of pitch is a bit...narrow minded. Sometimes a flat note adds to the intensity and...passion of a preformance. And other times, you want it to sound totally digital and just...cool. I love the new direction of pop, i really do. And some of the producer effects on the voice really entice me. But for this girl... this really should have a natural sound, even if that means a bit sharp or flat. Just like a perfectly tempo synced drum beat

  • can suck the life out of a performance. Those nuances are pleasant sounding. That said, melodyne can still be used to clean up a preformance a bit, while still sounding 100% natural. I love this program, and it opens up new avenues to recording music.

I'm not saying that you are a bad engineer, who am i to say something like that. I've got no experience. But this is a bad demonstration of the power and application of melodyne. IMO, this song was much better without pitch correction, in the way

  • that you applied it.

  • @WillStanleyMusic You assume that I'm showing off my skills as a sound engineer, but I'm not. I'm showing how natural Melodyne can sound when compared to Autotune. Sure, you can go back and adjust Melodyne ad nauseam, but that's not the point here. Her original performance was disturbingly, gut wrenchingly off; painful even, and Melodyne made it at least ok with little to no effort, and with a minimal amount of roboticism as compared with the other leading product on the market.

  • @kosstheory it is more versatile than autotune, thats for sure. I have heard convincing arguments in favor of autotune with some serious tweaking, something about melodyne's file conversion mucking up the sound a bit. I'm not really sure i believe that, and i've never had a chance to use autotune.

Her performance was....under par. i wouldn't say painful, but she did make a lot of mistakes here for sure (plus the lisp was a bit annoying..). But, the only statement i'm really standing by is that

  • @WillStanleyMusic Trust me, there was no 'messing' the performance up.

  • (pt 2) in this case (especially for this genre) , her going out of key was not as bad as the "digital" sound of her voice getting pitched way up. Especially at 1:09. (I'm not sure if clicking that will cut right to the note i'm referring to). And again, i'm by no means saying that i'm better than you in any way, shape, or form. I'm just stating my opinion that going a bit out of key is not necessarily bad, and even when its more than a bit, that sound is still better than that digital artifact.

  • melodyne made it sound worse it must have been the harsh settings put on it.. but i liked it with out it . rather it sound pitchy then a synth .. you suck as an engineer . shes a great singer .....well not that good.. but i could stand it with out melodyne.

  • @johnthesoundman That's odd I couldn't stand the original. In fact, I felt sorry for her. Your bad ears don't make me a bad engineer. Admittedly, this is an extreme case, because her pitch was extremely wrong.

  • Sounds fake to me.

  • it just gives it a extra kick to sound perfect.

  • So... Melodyne made her sound worse :/

  • sounds the same niggaa

  • @xoxofarr wow.. u r another idiotic racist scum.. u r also a pitiful excuse u r for a human and a disgrace to mankind!

  • u dont sound bad it just sounds like shes singing wit a retainer

  • Does anyone know the name of the woman singing?

  • :O SHUT THE FUCK UP TREY SONGZ -_-

  • i liked it she has some soul n good range the melodyne was terrible a compressor would of fixed that end right up made her sound like t-woman

  • Is it just me or I hear less breath when it's tweaked Melodyne.

  • she was good both times ?????????

  • i didnt call anyone a nigger so learn how to read. are you some kind of racist god?

  • i think she sounded like shit regardless. but at least when the melodyne was on her out of key-ness wasnt hurting my ears anymore. it doesnt add any computer like effect it just puts her in the closest key to what shes trying to get to. and her character or emotion doesnt make up for her lack of pitch. it makes it worse. singing in key properly will make your emotion come through stronger not getting louder and more niggerish

  • @brianvillage123 I completely agree with what you are saying. It hurt my ears too, just imagine being in the studio while she was recording! There's this embarrassing feeling you get for the performer when they sound so bad. That aside, I'm thinking I should post a new video showing the interface and how Melodyne is actually changing the performance. Might help some understand just how much it helped such a bad performance.

  • @kosstheory For the record, when someone comes to me and asks me to work with them, I'm bluntly honest. If they suck, I let them know, and they can work with someone else. I wouldn't tweak beyond a performers vocal range, because eventually they might have to perform those notes live; a disaster, if they can't sing. I find that I use Melodyne just to nudge notes slightly or for artistic license in post. Some people just shouldn't sing unless they're going for the T-Payne effect.

  • @brianvillage123 wow.. are u still using racist words like that in 2010..what a sad, pitiful excuse u r for a human.. it's no wonder your band "Sucks @ss" and your Myspace is called "The Failed Music"...LMAO!!! Because u guys r HORRIBLE, CRAPPY @SS BAND...LOL!!!!

  • Some parts of Melodyne... soundin very unrealistic :( (U can here the Computer-Pitch)

  • 0:15 wtf... :)

  • @AssJuicenNowa i feEeeel sso AaAsShaaMeEeEd.. haha ;)

  • @AssJuicenNowa It's a video loop that accidentally got recorded. IT happens when the router in the studio has it's output routed to it's input.

  • @AssJuicenNowa tourettes....lol

  • Sooo...the Melodyne ending def wasn't the same as the original ending. Auto-tune software doesn't remove runs and riffs and doesn't add in melodic licks in place of the original. Just saying

  • WhatS`the different between original and meldoyne? It`s all the same:S

  • Melodyne sounds like a computer. It's shit, learn how to sing and you wouldn't need melodyne. This singer doesn't even need it so it just makes her sound like some crappy rap video.

  • @x1soundgarden1x Actually her pitch was off more than it was on. In this clip her voice was only modified half the time, when "Melodyne" is on screen. There is little to no difference between the sound of her voice when Melodyne is being used and when it isn't being used. In fact, the only real difference is that when Melodyne is being used, she's singing in the right pitch.

  • @kosstheory I feel like the pitch drift was shortened too much in between notes, that's just my opinion. with a little bit of verb it should come out sounding smooth.

  • @kosstheory no he/she is right, it sounds like crap if melodyne is on work. The brilliance get lost.

  • @DevilsAssa There was no 'brilliance' in the original performance. I was there. Furthermore, the more more Melodyne has to do to bring a note in line, the less natural it sounds. Though her voice did sound somewhat tinny when originally recorded, her notes were all over the place, and seldom in key, so Melodyne had a great deal to clean up. Vocal character can only make up for so many bad notes.

  • @kosstheory Well, I hear a difference, it sounds like some obvious pitch correction is going on with the Melodyne, I've never heard anyone with a voice that naturally sounded like that.

  • @alexfanx I was there, and that is exactly how her voice sounded, just with the pitch corrected.

  • @kosstheory It takes away the soul of the human voice it also makes everyone sound alike and slightly robotic.

  • @kosstheory I wonder how that is good and fair to the music industry and us consumers to buy something that really isn't true art or talent. Should we give a bunch of people the opportunity to become rich and famous just because they have a nice face? And how is it fair, to all the singers out there that really can sing, because there are people that only with the charm of they're instrument will blow us away, just like Bono did, or Elvis Presley, or Cat Stevens, or The Beatles...

  • @kelmundur Why would you want to be fair to the music industry? The music industry is not fair to the individual artists. Regardless, most of the big names in music, whether they are exceptional vocalists or not, do enhance their voices using tools like this in post production. Labels invest millions of dollars in their product, the artists, and they do everything they can to insure that they recoup that investment, and turn a profit. Trust me, it's standard practice.

  • @kosstheory I understand, and you are not telling me any news. I am an audio engineer. Maybe I'm just angry at the fact that music is a product to be sold, not art to make you feel something special. But fortunately there are few of us that deny to look at it that way and still believe in the art of having people to perform like an artist, and not like a product in a factory called "the Music Labels and Music Industry".

  • trusssssssssssssssssssssssss u man

    i sooo agree with u

  • Hello,

Who is that girl? What isher name? Very greatfull sound

  • @ErdemVFX you must be tone deaf too!
