@hondakseries No their not protected, if the logging co owns the land their on they can fall them. There is no law saying you cant cut old growth redwoods. it's a real shame because redwood is not a necessity it's a luxury wood

nice job fellas, i leaned one with about 40,000 ft. in it straight up the hill, it to, was a "pisser" and ran water from 4 pm to 5 am. then i bucked it. never has seen one run for that long. It stood between two class one creeks, and think thats why it had sucked up so much water.

Hey nblevin - this looks like Van? It is hard to believe that a post from a wood so soft laterally would give a guy that much grief. The caveot is no height equals not much weight forward from the head lean, otherwise it would have headed for the ground a lot sooner. Side note: did you guys work off of the 1500, I think it was the1520, in early '08?

There are like 2 species of trees in the world that grow into the thousands. Redwood is not one of them. Redwood grows fast. That tree is maybe 200-300 years old.

For example: Sugi Coast redwood (more than 2000 years) Giant sequoia Oak Various yew Bristlecone Pine Baldcypress Various junipers Various other species of Cypress Kauri Plane tree Olive tree Chestnut Probably others too, those were just some I remember!

It's nice to use a Humboldt to create a flat butt although in this case the under cut HAD to come off the top to keep the tree on the stump as long as possible. When falling big trees on flat ground you want all of the tree to hit at the same time.
