I find it hilarious how Jose goes on for 5 minutes about how beautiful Baia is, and even sings about it, and then a minute later he says he's never been....
0:11, You'd think that Donald would be more concerned about keeping away from a creepy, glowing, dancing package than finding out what's inside it....
I'm brazilian. I live in São Paulo. This song's name is "Na Baixa do Sapateiro". The old samba is much better than the ones they play now a days. Today people use to play "samba enredo". I feel sorry for my country, to much poor people, corrupt politicians... We live in fear of going out even in daylight, because there are many poor drug addicts who rob, kidnap and even murder. It all started with the bad government of president Lula.
@HermaphroGynandro He said "That Aracuã (Aracuan Bird) seems to have never learned his manners...!" Something like that. But that last part about his manners is not really clear. Just what I believe he said while stoping in midsentence.
José Carioca and Donald Duck in Japanese Joséやーやードナルド、ホセカリオカだよ覚えてる? いやいや、はるばるブラジルまでよく来てくれたね~ で、調子はどうだい?元気だった? Donald 驚いたな~ Joséここで会えると思わなかった? ねえ、君バイーアに行ったことある? Google-earth translated original lyrics: " Lower the Shoemakers, Salvador da Bahia, circa 1940 Johnny Was A Shoemaker Ary Barroso (1938) Ah, love, woe, woe Love that silly we can not explain oh, oh Taste a little bit, hi It is poisoning, hi And for the rest of life is such a suffering Hey Lara, Lere Bahia, Yaya Bahia do not leave me thinking I do my crying, hi In despair, hi To find in this world The love I lost in Bahia I'll tell Johnny Was A Shoemaker I found one day T
I love the lyrics of the translation of the song. Here its nostalgic for a lover, but in the original 'Na baixa da Sapateiro' its from the POV of a woman who rejects a man's kisses.
@PandaFilms1 Haha, I guess it's because you watched movie Rio! I adore this movie! And yes, I agree it could be better if Jose show Rio de Janeiro to Donald and not Bahia. I bet it would be much more better than Bahia and more interesting. :))
@sonep511 actually... lool if you search in google for the lyrics you will find that the song isnt called Baia or Bahia alone but "Na baixa do sapateiro (Baia)" xP so it becomes more difficult, also theres no single version of the song depending on the singer, I belive this one is from Ary Barroso but Im not sure. So you can have the song called "Bahia" or "Na baixa do sapateiro", they have the same lyrics but a different beat. bizarre! :P
This is so beautiful... I've never been to Bahia, but Brazil is a beautiful country, it really is. Its people, its music, its language, its cities!!!!!
And after watching this, i wanna fly straight to Bahia!
Hey, anybody know what Jose is yelling in Portuguese when the aracuan steals his cigar? The DVD subtitles don't sound entirely accurate. They go "Uau! Esse aracuan parece que nunca para quieto" but the last two words he says sound different.
(Little obsessive. A bit hard of hearing, so I get a bit annoyed when subtitles don't match what is said.)
I have to say that Walt Disney was a genius. Zé Carioca (José) is an authentic Brazilian character. W. Disney was careful not to confuse him with other Latin americans. He was able to understand the subtleties and peculiarities of Brazilian culture. Fireonice3 is right. One day I was watching House of Mouse and Zé Carioca was portrayed as an hispanic latin american speaking spanish!! When the genius dies, the work suffers of lack of criativity and care.
@Ichy70 Yes, it's a shame Disney Channel changed Walt Disney's work so much :/ It was a classic, now it's just a bunch of teen bands! At least the animations are still great :D:D The princess and the frog? Epic.
José is by far one of the best Disney characters. I love him to bits. It's a shame they don't use him anymore. I understand why they don't and I've seen his reincarnation on House of Mouse...it's just not the same. Not even close.
Oh well I've never seen any comics like that around here. It wouldn't be the same though. Without the voice it just wouldn't measure up for me. Oh well.
"What's cooking?" doesn't mean you are actually cooking literally. Its similar to "What is going on?' I'm fluent in both portuguese and english so I know what I'm talking about. "O que a de novo" has the same meaning.
@RayeliB Spanish, amigo, nada tem a haver com o superior e milenar portugues,ta?Voces sempre nos chuparam o sangue durante o dominio filipino, agora ate estao piores que nos, a pedir-nos ajuda.Ironico, nao e?
Best Disney movie ever. This was the first movie they made that was actually sensitive to other races besides whites, instead of stereotyping them. Or... is it?
ok I have to know..... what is the portuguese for "what's cooking"? it sounds like chette nobu, but I don't think that's right.....I really need to learn portuguese :(
I think I can answer that: it's about as hard as learning German, if you're seeking to simply communicate. But if you wish to learn it academically, it can turn out into a real nightmare. :o
I mean, we have more genitives than Spanish, more slangs than English and more accents than French.
@evilhopscotch "what's cooking",american, means literally,"o que está a cozinhar?",or at the brasillian speech,"o que está cozinhando?".Not literally speaking,it means simply"What's up?"
I had a crush on Jose, too! His laughs made me laugh when watching this movie.
