  • Hold the and cover the black part around the phone. In case you don't know what I am talking about around the iPhone you will see the silver/metal thing you will see two black things around the edge (on each side) cover them up and squeeze them and watch your service if this isn't working for you well then I don't know what to say it worked for me

  • how much apple pay u to do this

  • Squeeze the phone harder

  • Oh you work for Fox News do you? No wonder that you are so apple biased. Mega corps dont like being trashed by fox.

  • Try it actually making a call.

  • you weren't holding it in the right way cover all the bands

  • Clay Shirky :)

  • You will notice signal loss when you are in low signal areas.

I knew this before iPhone "issue", whenever signal is low and I am on the phone I try to put it on speaker and only hold it with two fingers at the lower half and away from the ear; should make a difference with most phones.

  • Its cause you squeeze like a pusy

  • Maybe he is in an area where he gets such a good signal that not matter what, sweaty hands or anything, he will not. Thus, if you are directly under a tower or in a Fox building your phone is good to go. For everyone else you have got the short stick...erm....bars.

  • The death grip really only causes noticeable problems in areas with weaker cellphone coverage. My 3G service is average at about 3-4 bars and I can make it drop to zero. But I have an Edge cell tower about a mile away and can't make it lose any 2G signal.

    Go figure.

  • Hey I just bought this phone two days ago and I do loose bars when I hold it in that position. Like this is bull I even bought the bumper and I can never get full bars.

  • i found out thAT NEW iphone 4 is fixed!!! SEcRETLY the iphone 4s who just arrive in you hours newly dont have any issues sorry for early buyyers but my iphone 4 works extraordinary AWSOME no death grip cause i bough its just yesterday

  • The signal indicator isn't necessarily accurate - what I mean is, when the phone is idling as you show it, that lil' icon may not portray the current status correctly. All phones are like that, you could go from full bars to 2 bars instantly because the indicator just updated. Say you're on a call - it would be more accurate. So call someone, do this same lil' demo here, and I shant argue.

  • i love my iphone and i know that your doing a good job on proving there isnt a problem, but you should do this again and this time prove that we are looking at the home screen and not just a photograph of the homescreen. once again i know your correct but there will be haters who would probably pick up on this

  • @sammerron just take a look at the time, it swiches

  • i can do it with mine there is an antenna on top too

  • not sure but i think the death grip didnt work on your phone because you're holding it with your left hand!

cause i remember reading that right handed people usually get this problem, and not left handed!

the death grip occurs when you bridge the antenna with a finger, not your palm!

  • Have you ever tried the death grip with turning wi-fi on?

  • Heve you ever tried with turning wi-fi on?

  • All these Apple employees made videos are the same. Some geek with a messy office to make it look like he is just a regular guy saying that there is no death grip issue.

  • APPLE PROPAGANDA!

  • It could be one of 3 things. One, the update apple put out was so the phone would show a much stronger signal when in fact it's weak. Two, you say Fox News? I'm sure there could be a tower on that building or close by. Lastly, place a call and then test it.

  • i found a site that explains it very well with an image.

basically why some people dont see any change is because of how the signal is displayed. the difference between 5 and 4 bars is much more than 4 and 3 bars. so

you do experience a drop, however because you began on a good connection the drop isnt noted on the bars. the exact same drop will occur on 3 bars, but it could take you to 1 or 0 bars, even though the drop was the same. this is because there bars arnt even, 1 bar is not 1 5th.

  • Go fox news!!!!! Freedom forever!!!!!!

  • "yes my hand is a little sweaty just for you"

  • have apple fixed this grip of death issue yet? because this phone will be out on the market tommorrow (30th july) in sweden and im thinking of buying it. but i do not want to buy a flawed phone

  • @BillyNilsson i dont think there's a problem at all with the antenna and it's just the network. The iphones in autralia and canada don't have the signal drop at all/hardly any. at&t just sucks. just try doing it at your local store that sells em and has them for display.

  • @Ninjaboy890 Ok i will try that, thank you!

  • I have absolutely no problem with the death grip and I am quite confident most people don't, the media just had to find one little fault in a few defective phones and make a big deal out of it.

  • they fixed this with an update

  • @GuitarStar09 no they didnt, they will september 30th though, they just made it wear iphone 4 users can buy a free case(which solves the problem) from the apple store.

  • is holding my penis with the death grip also bad?

    cause i'm scared......

  • @Huidos001 haha

  • @Huidos001 yes, it causes you're sperm count to drop.

  • @Huidos001 Word! =)

  • I don't think the problem is with the amount of bars that the phone is showing. I have personally dropped many calls. I have been searching this "death grip" trying to figure out what it's all about, but all I know is that when I have dropped almost all of my calls, I still had a good signal. My phone also is not a pre order, I have only had it about a week and a half as of 7/22.

  • don't wanna know what you were doing to make your hand sweaty lol

  • is it only the iphone 4?

  • is this befor or after the update??

  • @ozrock909 This video is before 4.0.1

  • @Jerejohn91 4.0.1 didn't fix anything!

  • Looks like you've organized folders on your iPhone. Now it's time to organize your office.

  • Haven't had any issues with mine either but then again I got mine a month after it came out. Weird...

  • Actually, the Bars will show FULL with the "death grip" but your call will not go through or your current call will go dead. That's the issue

  • This was the "problem" on most older phones that turned out not being a problem at all....Stop complaining and go buy the best phone ever made.

  • His explanation of the physics is completely wrong. There is no conducting and the antenna is not the metal band, it is in the band. So putting a coating around it or anything else wont change anything besides provide another layer.

  • @Rukaribe.. The attenna as you see it IS the Wifi, bluetooth ect..Putting maybe a rubber casing would deffo stop the problem, but that would cost millions for apple. Just don't hold your phone in a spastic way and everyone will be fine.

  • THAT;S THE iPHONE #!

  • I wonder if this person got the memo that Apple just realized that the screen's signal strength display can be inaccurate. He should try it while he's on the phone. ??? OR am I just retarded?

  • Can you just point your other hand up while making a call to make it a big antenna

  • none of the Nokias I own have this problem, so ya know

  • LOL fox news????

    HAAA HAAA HAAA,

I didn't think anyone (with half a brain) would use the word FOX and NEWS in the same sentence.

    hee hee hee....

WRT iPhone, have a look at my clip showing how it really IS a problem. If you have a very strong signal you MAY be ok, but if it is a moderate signal, you could easily lose it, as demonstrated.

  • Whenever I hold the iphone like this it doesnt drop calls but it does weaken signal strength. Thanks for the video.

PS. Fox News is awesome! :)

  • Wow the mere mention of fox starts a bunch of religious douches in politics to have a rage war with atheistic douches well guess what the goal of this video was not to cause a fuming political fight this is why the other countries make fun of us because of you idiots now stfu stop talking about politics and leave a relevant comment like oh hey wtf is Steve jobs gonna do about the people who got screwed

  • You stupid liberals royally F'ed this country in the rear with socialist Obama. Maybe you should watch Fox to regain some of the brain cells you lost from listening to Barack's bullshit.

    Ps

    B.O. stinks

  • @8toDaBottom Agreed :)

  • get a grip on the real issue: wrong signal strength calculating algorithm!

  • As soon as he said "I walked throughout our offices at Fox News..." I stopped watching. :)

  • FOX news?!!!!! don't trust him. This video is certainly spurious.

  • He barely shows the screen long enough for the bars to start dropping. Plus when he does zoom in on the screen he doesn't show the bottom of the phone. This video seems like a hoax. I inherently didn't trust him right when he said fox news.

  • @thatcrazyjames you are an idiot, FOX news is where its at, you are either stupid, or you think that Apple is a Democrat, either way i guess, you are stupid.

  • @brevlle1 Haha calm down. Don't get so butthurt.

  • congratulations, your phone actually works like millions of other hand held devices invented years before it.

I think it's sad that we have to even discuss phones not working because you're holding it a certain way. What year are we in?? Give me a break Apple/ at&t

  • @antiignorant turns out all phones have the same death grip problem. All manuals have the explanation in them that holding a phone a certain way causes signal loss.

  • @ClaytonMorris99 You people at Faux News are polluting this country with jingoist racist propaganda. Have some conscience, judas.

  • @xtrmsprts If someone says that Obama is doing something badly, does that make them racist?

  • @YottabyteComputers how did obama even figure into this conversation?! why are you hacks so obsessed with the man. and the answer is it depends on the motivations of the critic. if david duke comes out in vehement opposition of obama, you think twice about the criticism's credibility. exactly the same with fox, the unnaturally focussed barrage of repudiation that fox news unloads on the prez makes neutral people like me say wait a minute, theres a pre-determined agenda here, and yes its racist.

  • @xtrmsprts It just upsets me that everybody here is obsessed with defending obama's liberal agenda. I know that Bush left him off pretty badly, but Bush did not spend several trillion dollars, and have very little to show for it. And now for fox. They critized bush as much, or even more than they critized obama. They are not racist, they are just giving us whats happening, and their opinion. The liberal news agencies pretty much killed Bush. So look at your news channels before you critsize fox.

  • @YottabyteComputers bush reduced the surplus that clinton had handed him and turned it into a gapping deficit from the utterly unnecessary iraq war. fox did not criticize bush as much though, they were in full support of him for years till bush's irresponsibility became blatantly self-evident..even to the usually myopic right wing. "liberal news agencies.. killed bush" ? bush was squarely panned all over the world, from europe to asia. it's lucky bush and his cronies escaped war crimes trials

  • @xtrmsprts Asia didn't like bush? What about Israel. They supported him, and the Iraq war was not a waste. We had to do something after the terrorist attack on 9/11. Your saying that we should have done nothing about it and left the terrorists to themselves. That is shaming the everyone who died that day. Bush did the right thing there. I'm no huge bush supporter but you've got to be kidding me if you think that he attacked them for no purpose. What would you have done? Nothing?

  • @YottabyteComputers israel is one (illegal) speck on the largest continent in the world, and why wouldn't it support bush, they owned bush.yes we had to do something after 9/11 but not act with bloodthirsty reckless bravado.9/11 had nothing to do with iraq, you're prolly one of those simpletons for whom osama = saddam, lol the invasion was done for profit motive for a few people.bush is a war criminal and has taken far more human lives than the ppl he claims to fight.

  • @YottabyteComputers oh and good thing the republicans found those nasty iraqi Weapons of Mass Destruction...yup, "mission accomplished" ,lol

  • watch loose change.

  • @Nextup24 They took it all.

  • @ClaytonMorris99

then why hasnt anyone else complained?

  • @ClaytonMorris99 i understand if you are sitting on your phone and u wont get any signal but holding it? ive never seen that happen to me, its true some phones may have an issue, maybe lose a couple bars, but the iphone 4 straight up loses all reception and your call will be dropped, i find that very frustrating, i wonder if they even tested the phone cause something like this just couldnt had been missed.

  • @ClaytonMorris99 My Motorola Droid Does Not Have This Problem. It Is 2010 And Motorola Droid Does Not Even Have A "DeathGrip" Or Any "AntennaGate" Problems. Apple Just Messed Up On A, What Should Be Obvious" Design. Antenna On The Outside? Where The Human Flesh Can Contact and Degrade Signal? I remember when Steve promoted this and said "No Other Phone Has This Design!" Uh Maybe There Reason Why No Other Phone Has This Design. Go Ahead Ask Motorola How They Do It, They Made The 1st Cell Phone ;)

  • @xgeetaristx you should watch the antenna shorts on Apple's site; the motorola droid does the same thing like any other cellphone does! If you don't have the problem, you're lucky. You live in a area where there's good reception, congrats! I can tell you that the iPhone 4 has no signal issues there as well! Try it, film it, post it on YouTube! A comparison of the two phones!

  • haha, at the end "i guess my grip isnt that strong"

nooo, your grip isnt that deadly!! :P

  • that could have easily been a print screen... he coulda taken a pic when the phone had full bars and then gone to that photo during the demo lol. I'd love to see him actually work the phone during all this. Death Grip does happen. No iphone, pre ordered or not, is immune to it haha

  • @chivamex10 the time changes on the phone...

  • it drops when u are making a call or using 3g the bars will remain on the last known signal reception in which it received also if you are within 5 miles of a 3g at&t antenna its most likely that it will not fail however the sweat from your palms may aide in a better signal reception

  • its because youre holding it wrong. you have to hold it like an L shape with your left hand where you hold the left side and the bottom side of the aluminum trim

  • @WarrrantyCP stainless steel whatever

  • the iphone 4 can have a nuclear bomb in it,it doesnt matter i want one

  • I am an RF technician. In order to have RF interference success or fail, one signal must be stronger or weaker than the competing signal or interference. You won't create the problem in a very strong signal area like where you are with all bars full strength. The area signal is clearly strong enough to overcome the hand interference. HOWEVER, when you are in an area of town with weak reception, the weak signal areas will be more vulnerable to expose the problem with body conductive interference.

  • Is there a giant antennae or dishes on top of your building that might be there since you're working at a News station? Go to the mall and try it...

  • I think your hands are not supposed to be sweaty!

  • Some people are more conductive than others. How that works, I don't know.

  • @retardtakeingthevideo try turning your Bluetooth on

  • Comment removed

  • Wifi or no wifi I been trying to do this since purchased my iPhone 4 and bars stay consistently the same..maybe pre-orders were mainly affected by this issue..nevertheless I think Apple rushed these phones out causing some issues

  • @AceSkyNight44 that is good to know...not all have issues. im a little bit tired about any new iphone, theres alot of FUD around...

  • One thing I noticed is that some users with issues have the wifi turned on... and you dont.... maybe the problem is that...
