I'm gay myself and it's nice to see someone who, yes, believes homosexuality is a sin, but is respectful and humble about the situation. He isn't doing the typical conservative buzz-phrase thing with the "gay agenda" and "let's protect our children against these homosexuals." For many conservative Christians, gay = wanting to take over the world and make everybody gay and influence the minds of children. I applaud Joel Osteen for using his platform to stay true to his beliefs and not be a bigot.

Joel Osteen. He is a very different type of Preacher from the others I have seen. He is committed to what his beliefs are, and does not force those beliefs on others unless they themselves come to the realization that it is something they wish to do. There is no sense of a controlling element, but an acceptance and a right for individual expression of who and what they are. Although homosexuality is a sin that is in the bible, it is the sin and not the sinner that should be judged.

Smedes is one of them. *He explains that Paul was talking about people who refused to acknowledge and worship God*! Many homosexuals do not reject God. Joel Osteen. He is a very different type of Preacher from the others I have seen. He is committed to what his beliefs are, and does not force those beliefs on others unless they themselves come to the realization that it is something they wish to do. There is no sense of a controlling element, but an acceptance and a right for individual expression of who and what they are. Although homosexuality is a sin that is in the bible, it is the sin and not the sinner that should be judged.

@JeannieBaty48 There are those that would disagree with your interpretation. In fact Rev. Dr. Louis B. Smedes is one of them. *He explains that Paul was talking about people who refused to acknowledge and worship God*! Many homosexuals do not reject God. Additionally most homosexuals never gave up or changed their sexual passions. They have been homosexual since day one! Rev. Dr. Smedes also notes that homosexuals don't lust after each other any more than heterosexuals.

@tomcwa I would be careful listening to what men say as opposed to what God says in His word. You can get into a lot of danger there. We are living in a time when the word of God is getting twisted in order to make men feel better about their sin. Personally, I'd rather know the real truth now rather than later when I have to face God wouldn't you?

@tomcwa By the way, God loves you. I don't hate homosexuals. Christians are called to love everyone, but we are also called to give others a chance to see the truth of God's Word, as unpopular as it may be.

@tomcwa The verse you are looking for is Romans 1:26 "Even their women exchanged natural relations for unnatural ones." As a woman myself, I think women are portrayed very fairly in the Bible. They are seen as equals: "There is neither...male nor female, for you are all one in Christ Jesus."Gal 3:28 Many women in the Bible are so strong, brave, kind and full of faith that they make the men look foolish, like Esther, Ruth, Mary, David's wife Abigail, the Shunamite woman; the list goes on and on.

@BlankCanvas88 That's interesting when you consider 1 Timothy 2:11-12 which requires women to be silent and not to teach or exercise authority over men. And then there is 1 Corinthians 14:34 which requires women to be silent in church as well. And then there is Deuteronomy 22:20,21 that says if a woman isn't a virgin when married she should be stoned to death.

Yes, being gay is a sin. Just like sex outside of marriage is a sin. Neither is worse in God's eyes than the other. Christians, we need to realize that just because one sin may offend us more than another, that God is just as offended from the littlest lie to murder. Man judges degrees of societal punishment, God asks for a pure heart. If someone is not repentant of their sins, they will go to hell. Only blaspheming the Holy Spirit is seen as a greater sin than any other.

Ugh...That's awful! I'm sorry, but he makes Christians look like a bunch of ninnies. We need to be strong and stand up firmly for the truth! Well, I will say it firmly even if you don't, Mr. Osteen: Homosexuality is a sin. Yes, not the ONLY sin, but it's just as deadly. Anyone who's a slave to that sin can be freed the same way as any human: through Jesus Christ, the Son of God. We're ALL in the same sinking boat; only Jesus can pull us out, and he can't do that if we refuse to leave it.

Surprisingly I agree with Joel, he answered this question well. I don't believe in his teaching though.....but about gay people going to heaven they MAY but at the same time if you are gay and you dont think its a sin and you think God will let you enter his kingdom is false. If you try and turn away from homosexuality God will see the struggle and help you overcome.

Do not be afraid of loosing members of your church or sponsors. I find it amusing that people assume that Jesus said the word homosexual yet it was never coined until the late 19th century and first appeared in a bible in 1946 in the New Revised Standard (RSV). But hey....whats one tiny mistake like that.

@DDRBoi02 Sodom and Gomorrah, wasn't not a revision in any part of the bible or translation issues. In fact the men of the city were trying to tear down Lot's front door, not for the two virgin women they were offered by Lot himself, his daughters, but so they could have sex with the other men (aka Angels) that came "Fresh" into the town to warn Lots. Genesis 19 it speaks specifically to the realm of homosexuality!

@GWNow Whatever....it's your god and your religion. For a god that is suppose to be all about loving and forgiveness to think he hates his "own creation" seems a little hypocritical. Besides, I never said the realm of anything....I said the word....which ironically is now in the bible yet wasn't a word until the late 19th century. So about 2000 years later, Jesus said the word "homosexual".....I don't buy it.

@DDRBoi02 He is totally a forgiving God and He loves all of His creation. Jesus never said the word "homosexaul" because He only spoke greek. You are correct about the bible and its was not an official book until later with Constantine, but God is a God of mercy and grace as well. He is their for everyone, but if there are no rules then the world would just be continual sin. Thx for responding in kind and not cussing me out.
