Dave Cantebury is THE MAN. I was sold after I saw Dual Survivor, season 1, ep 8 'Soaked' when he made an arrow with a beer bottle arrowhead and took a turkey with a takedown longbow. Dave is definitely someone you could trust your life with if you were lost out in the middle of nowhere.
im looking to get a stainless steel water bottle. Is there anything that i should look out for? im worried about putting it into the fire and have stuff leaking into my water. Anybody have is recomendations?
I mean this with the most respect but personaly I think it would be hilarious if when he said remain composed it showed a clip of him terrified when he was being stung by bees on dual survival
Dave, I'm not sure if this message will reach you. I have been watching your Youtube post far before "Dual Survival". I need to thank you for saving my life along with my friend. We were only on a day hike. We got lost and no one knew were we were. I tried my best to follow all your instructions given through your post. "You make it look easy" It was hard! We made it out after five days. My friend is in the hospital but alive. All I can offer you is Thank you for keeping us alive!
dave, you are magnificent!!!!! although i have to give number one props to ray mears for being the one who got me into bushcraft and self reliance, i see you at a very close second. you are a very good man for wanting to share your knowledge with the rest of us. thank you very much for that.
I carry a rasp with me incase I have to start a fire in wet weather. I find a dead log and start rasping away and once I hit dry spot I empty the wet shavings and collect dry shavings to start my fire with.
I like your small side bag, if you packed that out with some foliage then it'll afford you better protection from the cold floor. Dunno if you have ever thought of that Dave, but it looks to be a simple kit you are carrying there, a great little grab bag with a few possibles in here. I use something similar which looks like an old German bread bag. It is heavy duty canvas too, and I bunged a bit of greenland wax on to try and waterproof it a bit. Nice one again Dave!
I did,and miss those times sooo much,,billhooks, shotguns, bowies, canvas, dutch arrows, bows, fishing, ridge tents and campfires, made him a 4 1/2 " bushcraft knife with oak scales and sheath in May in some small way to thank him for getting me out in the woods so many years ago.. I had an awesome childhood under tree boughs..surburbia sucks bigtime,,regards
when i've had to start a fire in wet conditions, i've found that if you lay a bed of thick green wood, 2 layers, dug about 4 or so inches deep, with room for air circulation, you can get a good fire going, and no worries about moisture seeping up and soaking out your fire.
Plus, you don't get as much smoke! when the coals form, and you got a good bed, the green wood acts as a 'bed' to sit your cups, etc, to sit on.
you know, very few things are as satisfying as sitting under your poncho hooch, brewing up some hot cocoa, while the rain pours down around you. But you are warm and dry, listening to it patter on your poncho.
brilliant video Dave, been subscribed for a few months now and I watch every video you make. I am very intrested on learning how to survive in the wilderness and to survive on my own without using many man made tools. For me primitive techniques are very important and are even more important than any modern techniques
all depends on where you are, and what you need out of your footware...
I live in Minnesota, and for the winter, I wear Bates Intermediate cold weather boots (ICWB)..there basicaly insulated combat boots
In the summer, there are alot of wet conditons here, its hot, its humid, creeks, rivers lakes OH MY!. I prefer to wear Panama soled Jungle boots, yes, i even hike in them.
Thats just what I wear, people have other preferences
Very nice and informative video dave. Watched a couple other ones you've made and they are great also. I noticed you're wearing a pathfinder watch if I'm not mistaken. Just wanted to ask if you ever experienced battery problems with that watch?
great video where do find horseshoe fungus and how long does it extend your fire. i wanted to add i like the new intro its cool. also pinesap is a great fire extender too. thanks for making these videos i have learned alot from you please keep them coming.
do you know any stews or soups you can make with wild edibles or caught game? would be interesting to make a video about. a soup or stew can be a very warming en nourishing meal when prepared correctly and with the right ingredients it tastes incredible. i would be very thankfull if you would make a video about it
Man I'll tell ya In the first 50 Videos I made I started probably 30 Fires on camera, I just figue people get tired of seeing that and the time is better used for information, maybe I'm wrong, thanks man.
@wildernessoutfitters Good job though, more quick reference is good, being able to watch a video and watch what i need to do so i can go out and practice it. Great job though.
Dave, thanks for the video. Watching the video showed us that you were truly applying the pathfinder system, dealing with an unpleasant situation. Thanks, Thanks for the video... The intro and outro are excellent. they have given your videos there own personality now... great job.
excellent info dave keep up the good info i have purchased several items from your site your site is free so i try to give back to you god bless

I used to have the "have no fear, i have a bic" syndrome.
I don't use anyhting out of my pack, till i have to, my prefered fire method is bowdrill..its fairly fast and easy..all you need is a knife.
its important to know how to do things with no "outside" tools....you won't always have a Bic, or even a knife
