On a positive note, ignoring the mindless "music" that scandanevians believe is attractive, I must chime in about the driving. Swede Blomqvist was a brilliant driver. He helped develop how 4-wh-drive cars can slide (OK, 'drift', as we say today) and he really perfected the methods by which Audis came to be beautifully successful as rally cars. Blomqvist, Mouton, Mikkola, and Rohrl all had their strengths.

but... at 4:51 and 4:59 those are both Hannu Mikkola, not Walter Rohrl.

Walter was driving the No.4 car with the experimental new double clutch system in the 1985 Lombard Rally.

That was real rallying back then. Night stages. 16 hour stints. No pacenotes. & 500hp+ cars.

The Admiral is so old school cool! The Opels straight 6 enigines are so great. Much character and soul in those.

Ascona B is a very neat little 'sports car' (with some modifications;) , I miss mine.

Yes it is a original 500. Very pretty. It is for sale! You are so right about the Admiral. It was born with a 2.8 litre engine but now has a 3.0 engine with 2 big carburetors (not webers) The ascona B will have a set of 45-48mm of Webers on a 2.4 engine.Great sound...

Rohrl was a genius. His best performance was his 1st rally for Audi in Monte Carlo in the snow in 1984. He beat Mikkola and Blomquist by miles!

I was born in eighty and just about remember the end o group B. Watching these vids gives me goose bumps and slmost makes me cry. The men and women who piloted these cars really were heros. The sound, speed and driver input was just incredible. What an amazing time for motorsport.
