I have a confession to make:

I had no interest in this anime until I saw this (amazing beautiful and tear-wrenching) AMV. Now, it looks like Princess Tutu is actually good and surprisingly mature - but I'm afraid to see it, because I don't want to ruin the watching experience of this AMV.

I thought the same thing about the series when I looked into the preview and even after looking up the summary. But I gave it a chance when I had a bit of free time. It is a very mature and deep show. It has beautiful music and art. And one of the most tragic *yet fitting* plots I have seen in anime in a long time.

if you think princess tutu was a great anime (i think it was) then I suggest you watch/read Tsubasa: Reservoir Chronicle. It has such an amazing plot and such complex characters. I love it to death. Even though in the latest chapter i fear my favourite character will die.

I don't think you can really compare the two. I mean .. Princess Tutu is an original title with a completely different style. While I enjoy the manga of Tsubasa (can't deal with the style of animation to watch it), it's pretty much just CLAMP fanservice with a good storyline. Albeit a very .. confusing one. I feel like the artists just wanted a way to rehash their old stories so they .. made a way. Lol.

It's not the style, its the fact they both: Are mind screws, have 4 main characters, each one has a hot knight and someone who has lost something important *heart shards, feathers*, each start all happy rainbows and shit and then get angsty, they end with more rainbows and unicorns, they meet new people, they each have someone watching their story/journey, and they each are beautiful and so sweet. Not to mention the other hundreds of similarities which Im not gunna list. Anyways, they are alike.

I didn't want to watch it until I saw this AMV, as well. But .. I watched it. And it really is an amazing series. It's pretty mature considering it's about a duck who dances with people to solve their problems. =P You won't be disappointed.
