I actually like Clash's earlier, more raspy Elmo better. The voice had sort of a whispery quality that I find kind of cute. In any case, the contrast between the sketch with Kermit and the one right after with the tricycle is pretty stark and it shows how much evolving Clash's interpretation has gone through.

You know what's funny? I just saw the clip where Richard Hunt performs Elmo and I expected that voice to be as high as Lugsy's voice (performed by Richard Hunt) from The Tale of the Bunny Picnic, but I guess I was wrong.

I know Kevins Elmo voice has developed through the years but I still enjoy the raspyness of wat it once was to how it is now. It just sounds like a voice anyone can pull off.

@Mahaney82 I have yet to see someone do a GOOD Elmo voice, other than Kevin Clash. Most people who do "impressions" of Elmo just make their voice higher in pitch. But there's more to it than that.

I'm going to say this up front: as much as I love classic Sesame Street, I do NOT hate Elmo. Sure he may try too hard to be cute 24/7 and he's been forced into full stardom by the competition, BUT like muppetlover16 said he does have his moments. I especially like how they made it so his father's in the military, having the courage to reach out to that specific young audience really says something about the show's integrity.

If you want a good representation of what Richard's Elmo sounded like, watch the Fraggle Rock episode, "The Gorg Who Would Be King." When they switch to the puppet version of Junior Gorg, that's almost exactly the voice Richard used, but it had a slightly higher squeak to it. Hope that helps some.

@SpinneyBigBird1095 Yay MuppetVoicesAndMore finally put up the "Elmo" vid, you know I thought Elmo's original personality was funnier and cooler I think the new Elmo is too sweet and saccharine (you can tell from that comment that I'm not a huge Elmo fan) but Elmo does have his good moments like "Elmo's Got the Moves" and "The Elmo Slide" anyway tell MuppetVoicesAndMore muppetlover16 says thank you
