What really differentiates this from western or really much of the rest of the world is that this carrier can complete tasks without the need of escorts. In fact the actual terminology for this sort of ship is "aircraft carrying missile cruiser". Its a Kirov and Varyag put together if you will. Fascinating and soon new class of Russian carriers will be coming out in the next few years. CAN'T WAIT!!!
