  • Another song that I love to crank up when I'm driving the Cobra with the top down ! What's even better is when some moron pulls up next to me with that hip-hop crap and I just drown it out.

  • i remember her being discovered on the Gong Show........absolutely beautiful voice and her octave range is up there with Julie Andrews, Mariah Carey, Yma Sumac....

  • Love you Cheryl. Would hear this song everywhere in New York, Paradise Garage, Infinity and dance, dance, dance.

  • This jam was the "ish" when it was out. Cheryl is my GURL, she is that FIERCE!!

  • sounds like the prom night movie borrowed heavily from this song for their theme.

  • @b79s23 Exactly that. The soundtrack was influenced by songs of the time.

  • @snoopatomicdog ...to put it nicely{lol},they sound so similar it's more like a "jack".rap was based on a great majority of soul, funk & disco songs of the early 70s up to the early 80's as well.

  • the mother of all disco retro songs..!!!!

  • 1:03 - 1:42 <3

  • She DID have a set of pipes !!!! People say Chaka Kahn and Patti LaBelle were the best, but Cheryl Lynn had a richer vocal quality I thought. Got To Be Real was a big hit record , but Starlove was her greatest song !!!!

  • Omgosh,,,, this was such an epic time period for music :) gosh... love listening to classic disco!

  • This album and The Jacksons Destiny album all day long during the summer on the record player!

  • I have saw shows that said she was a one hit wonder....Not True....I use to lose my mind at the club on this song......and many of her R& B hits.

  • I have saw show that said she was a one hit wonder....Not True....I use to lose my mind at the club on this song.......

  • MUITO BOM

  • What an amazing vocal display!!! her best song hands down! :)

  • LOVE this song too... like the way it starts out slow then gets faster... I remember dancing to this one!

  • OMG, I love this song. However, it reminds me of how OLD I am because I remember when it was being played on the radio. I was driving on the freeway listening to the new station on sirius radio, the new Studio 54 station and suddenly this song came on and I about ran into a hospital parking deck.

  • WORK Ms. Honey!!! I dare you to sit still on this jam!!

  • I haven't heard this song in 30 years. What a fun song!

  • Vocally, Donna Summer couldn't hold a candle to Ms. Lynn. I danced to both of them in the late 70's and 80's at clubs on both coasts. Cheryl's singing was bursting with feelings and emotion. Just sit back and listen to her sing " Day After Day " on her Got to Be Real album. Nuff said.

  • I agree believe it or not Bobby Debarge had a five octave range also. RIP he's a fallen soldier. This song is so fierce. I miss talents like Cheryl Lynn that's missing in the current state of music.

  • Better than Chaka Khan..She has a five octave vocal range..Only a handful of singers can claim that distinction. It's almost impossible to possess. Cheryl Lynn, Minnie Riperton & Mariah Carey are the only three in recent music history to be able to hit notes in five octaves. Much more versatile than Chaka. Not that I don't like her, but Cheryl blows her away!!

  • @taralo16 maybe she could have taken some advice from chaka on "staying power"....

  • @taralo16 RACHELLE FERRELL, AND CHANTE' MOORE ARE TO BE ADDED!

  • @taralo16 Cheryl Lynn actually looks up to Chaka Khan. Cheryl has an out of this world voice but is in NO way more versatile than Chaka. Have you heard Chaka's catalog of R&B, Funk, Rock, Jazz, Disco, Dance, and Gospel tunes? Better ask somebody...LOL!

  • I love how the bass line climbs along with her insane vocals @5:23...Pop stars take notes...here's a singer...

  • Nothing compares to Disco and Hi NRG love them!!

  • Everybody had that ONE song that made you stop whatever it was you were doing in the club and RUN to the dance floor, the moment you heard the opening notes. If you had a drink, you put it down. If you were trying to "close the deal," you grabbed that trick's hand and took them to the floor WITH you. For me, THIS was that song!

  • @Survivor2002 not everyone is a hooker,yet!

  • I'm remember this song during the disco era. I used to go to Disco 9000 in West Hollywood, The Starwood on Santa Monica, and Osko's on La Cienega, and Dillion's in Westwood. Those were some fun times

  • Her vocals at 5:33 are the only thing ive seen a popular artist do that comes close to what yma sumac did in chunco with her famous whistle register trills. Cheryl displays awesome technique here.

  • Holy Crap. that is some insane vocal range......

  • this is fire

  • Awesome artist, wish more singers today were like her and the other greats!

  • Disco Classic, total original song.

  • I will never ever get tired of listening to this great disco song... pumps me up everytime !

  • She was, also, featured in Toto's Georgy Porgy

  • i absolutely love her rang on this song its hypmotizing...but does this song remind anyone of the song from the movie "prom night" starring jamie leigh curtis. the actual song is called prom night just like the movie check it out let me know if its just my imagination.

  • back in the days the clubs started lip sync contest. i got in the contest and won to the finals 5 times with star love. was a great time, great era!

  • i remember dancing to this song at marilyns backstreet in pasadena, boris used to kick total butt at that time and was a trend setter riding a mix on oid school techniks beltdrive tables, yes that was before the 1200 was ever thought of and the ciub had string lights in the floor baggies were in harbor light shoes were thing.thanx for taking the kidd back.

  • One of the best voices of all time...

  • This is the JAM!!

  • i use to do the splits to this song. o.k. i was 20 something. the bar was the "Bistro" in chicago. met my first lover there. o.k. i was 17, he was 35. what a great time!

  • @justjack78 i did the splitz to this song a couple fridays ago.. split my pants right up from my knee to the crotch!! lol

  • i love the bridge in this song,, the part that fades into space, so cosmic , i used to always hear this song at night at bedtime was age 8

  • i love the bridge in this song,, the part that fades into space, so cosmic

  • This was the first song I ever heard that was disco music. It got me hooked on disco music and I still am. I have been searching for a 1983, 'This Diamond Ring' disco version. Have any of you heard that one? I don't remember who sang it, but it has to be out there some place.

  • this shit was great.when u hear this kind of music it always make me think of what i was doing wnen the record came out. my daddy used to be playing this while were we ridin in his 1977 grand prix

  • Okay Cash, this is the REAL Cheryl Lynn, Sherry Turner made this song famous at the old George's on Marshall..........put on your dancing shoes and get ready to twirlllllllllll..............

  • i think there was a drag queen on every corner in san francisco singing this tune.

  • I love this song so much! Brings back so many wonderful memories for me.

  • Man it's so true this woman is a genius.. Great songs and a Great voice.. And she sounds good still.. Where is she?

  • Everything has made a come back except for disco. It's time for it now > i really like dancing disco,it keeps me in shape

  • And... this was the sibe B!!!!!!!

  • PupuTheClown... I want to sign up !!! Get that time maching going !!! :-)

  • LISTEN TO ALL MUSIC.!!! THIS IS THE ERA______IT´S COMING BACK

  • Has ANYONE OUT THERE thought of making a channel JUST for music like this??

    C'MON you DJ's out there..BRING IT BACK

  • @Jimgymbod Amen!!!

  • this is the shit!

  • where are you Cheryl Lynn? I would love to see you sing live.

  • disco starts 1:16

    remembering dancing the night away!

  • This IS the BEST DISCO song that was ever performed! Cheryl Lynn you freaking ROCK!!! I danced more to this song than any other song in my life! The minute it started in the clubs, everyone was waiting for me to hit the dance floor and dance my ass off! Can't get enough of this song. BTW, MUST PLAY EXTREMELY LOUD!

  • And to think, she got her start on "The Gong Show"!

  • @ajb0215 Is that true? Or was that Gloria Gaynor? I mean Cheryl WAS gonna be a big hit. I love her as much today as 1979, when I stood in line to buy this album!

  • THIS WOMAN NOW'S SHE CAN TRULY SING!

  • Ms. Lynn... A true Talent!

  • One of the greatest disco songs ever !

  • @prettygreeneyed1 yes this is a very great song from Cheryl lynn

this is from thime, and this song stand up 1 lp disco long versiun ,

i have this home ,great song.

    Lutje.

  • Actually there was no disco version as opossed to a ballad version. This was the one and only original as far as I know. I could be wrong but I had the album.

  • I wore this one out.

  • LOVE IT

  • She rocks this song. Mariah only wishes she could do that!

  • Thanks for this wonderfull post!

Sure does bring back some fun dance memories 1979! I ran right out and had to have this album, that Woman stole my heart! I remember hearing she started on the " gong show", no not my Sexy Cheryl, yep it was a fact!

  • YES!

  • First time I heard this one, I felt like I was witnessing a musical SUPERNOVA!!!!

  • Great way of putting this song!! Ha! It did feel like we were soaring thru the cosmos w/ Cheryl. meet behind Mars, this song and "Zodiac", Roberta Kelly were like that. JoJo58

  • Erika Jayne would make a fantastic Canadidate for this 1979 Remake of Star Love.

  • This groove takes me back to the summer of 1979. The song still KICKS!!!

  • @KOMET2006

Totally. I remember that summer too.

  • @KOMET2006 It was really getting played alot on the west coast in 79, really a hot hit! That Cheryl was IT!!!!!!!

  • @Vstar4me It was played a lot on in NYC as well.

  • @weezerz Great to hear, and I do hope she was making um move in Europe too!

  • Artist today can remake this a million times over , but nobody and I mean nobody does this song like Cheryl Lynn!!!

  • I wish Jennifer would remake this....Wow!..I think it would be universal.

  • I can't believe I found this song... it's so

awesome -- and Cheryl Lynn looks lovely

in the picture posted! Her voice makes

me tremble and takes me back to the

great days of the 70's! Bravo! *****Stars!

  • @LADYSEASTAR awesome comment to such a classic tune...love the 70's disco boogie era also. Nice to see/hear that old school folks still got what it takes. Peace & 1 love

  • Every Thur. nite for years we went out dancing -and when this song played Everyone helped rock the house down - no matter where we went or what the crowd - Everyone dances to Starlove!

  • WHY DON'T you take me in your arms and rocket me????????

  • This song gives me the chills. You know its on at 1:16. I was too through at 5:22. The song is full of nice surprises, supoerior arrangement. Everytime you think its going to settle down she gets wild again.

  • I love this version what memories 80´s

  • This woman, is EXTREMELY talented, vocally speaking. In my opinion, she ranks right up there, with Patti Labelle & only a "few" select other talents, that had her vocal range & ability. Coming from a singer, as i am one myself, her range is NOT easily reached. More impportantly, performed flawlessly, and without much effort, which to Cheryl Lynn's credit is a massive god-given gift. Her "pipes", are just that damn good folks......!!!!

  • You are SO right, "tomtalker2000". She is one of the most unrecognized talents EVER!! What a set of pipes she had!! And a vocal range beyond compare. She's up there with the greatest, like Chaka Khan. Just listen to the vocal range she displays here...absolutely amazing!!!!

  • @yaconjo

Yeah Cheyl Lynn is not the only one who's "unrecognized" talents or for that matter who was seriously very underrated that came out that great period for music between the years of 1977-1979:

    Evelyn Champaign King

    Teena Marie

    Betty Wright

    Patti Brooks

To be honest, I think Donna Summer pretty much eclipse a lot of these great singers like Cheyl Lynn during that period, because she put out so much material back to back at that time. Plus she had a big marketing machine as well.

  • @yaconjo Yes so true many people think that she had only one hit record, that say alot.

  • Oh yeah! I cant believe it - I heard a version of this in the horror movie "Prom Night" 1980 and loved it never knew it was this!! Great job Cheryl!! and tinocco for postin...

  • yeah some horror movies have cool disco songs in them..like Nightmare on elm street part 2 has Touch me by Fonda Rae!

  • Why don't you take me in your arms and rock me . . . .

  • @cherDJ Take me in your arms and rocket me....

  • @bunnstermi - I like your version too LOL !!

  • Man what memories at club The Great Gaspy in Los Angeles, with all the boxer celebrity's coming in to look and play dart's and party.

  • Incredible voice!! Pure unadulterated talent!!

  • I still remember when she was a contestant on the Gong SHow...lol

  • I like mixing this with haven't you heard.

    Bless you.

  • breath-taking!!!!

  • Brings back the memories; my disco partner, Art Parra and I won many a contests dancing this. Also appeared on TV in El Paso, TX. Those were the days.

  • 1 was dancing away at Carols Speakeasy in Chicago, and I used to write down this song for the deejay to play. Song still has " Magic"

  • That was the best laugh I have ever had!!!LOL 5:00-5:44

  • shes great

  • 5:24-5:44 WOW! I can't even raise my scream that high...

  • do u think that jennifer hudson should remake her songs?

  • How funny. I was just watching Jennifer Hudson on VH1 Divas and it made me think how awesome it would be for her to remake this song!--carcamprof

  • It really would they have very similar voices, and it doesn't seem that Jennifer is aware of that. I think there is already a great fan base looking for someone to fill the void left by a real belter like Cheryl Lynn. Jenn doesn't seem to have tapped into that yet. She definitely has the vocal power to do so.

  • LOOPS125 NO Its her signature song made for her specific talents. I think Ms. Hudson should have songs written for her specific vocal talents.

  • i do believe Jennifer could cover the song in a tribute fashion. My friend just worked with Jennifer the other day -I'm going to pitch the idea to her as she's working on her new project. I think Cheryl could guest on the remake.

  • LETS START A DISCO REVOLUTION.. they dont make musci like this these days..

  • Music should still be this joyous.

  • You ain't kidding. At the clubs here in Chicago, this song and others like it blew the doors clean off of the hinges. How many of today's songs can you say that about?

  • @MrHaroldG2000 I am in my mid 40's and couldn't have put it better than you did. This song moves you and no song from today works it like this song does.

  • @osufan2 :It's a by-gone era that I truly miss.

  • ,,me 2, hey me and my friends are working on a time machine with the help of some German scientists, when we perfect it would you like to go back to 1977 and stay ?
