Everyone should see ChoicePrideChange's videos or at least look in their descriptions-- cuz Congress does need to do something before economic collapse
What's the magic pill they can do quickly? It took 20 years to create this mess, it won't be fixed tomorrow. The number one thing we can do to lower prices is to regain the strength of the dollar, which means we need to stop spending money and pay down the debt and we need to stop the huge trade deficit. Do you really think the congress has the balls to do either?
We get less then 25% of our oil from OPEC. Drilling offshore will not get prices under $5 a gallon.
The Saudis just put out more oil in one day just in their increased production then we could do in 10 years with Alaska and it didn't bring the price down a single dollar per barrel.
Sir or Ma'am, you are one of the first people online in the last 6 years to impress me with your ability to react to my intentionally obscene observations... I actually am reading and learning from what you write although I haven't had to abandonen my own beliefs. This, to me, again proves that one true fault in the U.S. in the absolute failure of the public education system. If we could all look at Japan with their fabulous education and low crime rate, would we not be all much better? :)
I love the Japanese results, but as a true American I detest the idea of school on Saturdays and if I have to live in the little boxes they call homes I might shoot myself. The results though, are hard to argue with.
Stocks are predicting that gas will go down, but only by about 5 cents, then go back up. Gas prices depend of the state. In California, gas is about $4.50, and in Arkansas, it's about $3.50. It is only because that state's government puts taxes depending on the tourism of the state.
Be happy with that. $138 per barrel would mean a lot more. A barrel is 31 gallons and $138/barrel alone means $4.45/gal. If crude oil is 70% of the cost well you are looking at $6/gal oil. Even if you only add 20% on top of $4.45 then you're still looking at $5.35/gal
The US produces half of what it consumes. YOU consumes 21 million barrel/day. YOU produces 10 million barrel/day. The production cost of crude oil one barrel, in Taxes US, is $8 dollar. IF your oil companies reduce (or "sacrifice") its huge profits, you would not see these crisis. But of course you live in a capitalism country
The states which has oil will f***ing rich.
---
I remember in 1998 the oil prices were $8/barrel and now it's $140.
Their profits are not huge. If the oil companies became non-profit and managed to defer the efficiency problems that it might bring ir would reduce the cost of a gallon by about 10%. Also Texas doesn't have enough oil to supply the whole US so your $8/barrel conclusion isn't really sound. Also $8 is not the total cost to get oil to the pump and even if it was why would they want to sell it for $8 if they can sell it for $135?
$3.65 here, Ohio.

Need domestic source and other countries to defy OPEC like Kuwait did in the 90's

It's not Bush to blame entirely, this is a 20 year process. Bush just sped the process up by going to war and increasing demand.

YOU're right. Iraq war has a major effect on this crisis.
I wish Iran war start today before tomorrow , so we can see $200-$300 per a barrel.
