He's not growling, he's talking. :o) There's nothing menacing about that. What a sweetie.

my lab does that too. i think its because he wants to be petted because i will pet his belly then stop and watch TV or something and he will be in front of me growling.

maybe the camera seemed offensive to him and did not want it to be near him...My dog is scared of my camera! =p lol.

My dog does the exact same thing...lol...this is how he gets me up it the morning too...He is also a Chocolate lab.
