in the 90's that backhand, slide it 5-hole deke was actually finesse move that not a lot of players tried. now its a common deke on breakaway or penalty shot
Pavel loved Montreal for the strip from Berry to Papineau on Ste-Catherine. He used to spent his holidays out there. I wish he had signed with Montreal in 99, but seems that a million less was not worth the village. I can understand that.
@Spetz I don't think they would, for sure not Broduer he sucks so bad the only reason he passed Roys regular season win record in only 34 less games is because he plays so many regular season games, and than when playoff time comes he's burnt out. Not to mention a lot of those regular season games are against medicore teams, where Roy would let the backup play. Just remember a few quick facts
Brodeur doesn't suck....3 cups were mostly attributed to him. Just because he didn't win the MVP doesn't mean he wasn't worthy of winning it. Either way, his consistency throughout his career is what's gotten him in all the record books, so I don't think he's worse than Roy. They both won and lost when they weren't supposed to.
Its obviously down between Hasek and Roy. Personally I think Hasek is the best but its close. Roy always had a good team in front of him. Hasek lead the Sabres through the playoffs and to the cup. The sabres 99 cup team was a great team but there wasnt any stars or big name players like Roy had in Colorado.
Roy's Montreal teams were mediocre. Not saying Hasek didn't carry his team to whatever success they had, but he never won anything important until he played for the stacked Red Wings. Roy won with great teams and not so great teams and was playoff MVP 3 times. Pretty hard to top that.
Oh please, I gotta say Hasek's Buffalo teams were such shit especially 1999. Not taking anything from Roy he was one of the best, but Hasek basically strapped his ballsack to that net and made sure nobody scored during the late 90s. But hey, at least they both got cups.
I'm not going to dispute that Hasek carried the Sabres for years. But it's such a myth that Patrick Roy always played for great teams. He didn't. They were not expected to win anything in either '86 or '93. Plus, there are a lot of other factors that I feel give the edge to Roy in the debate anyway, such as his monumental influence on the position in so many ways. That's not to say Hasek isn't still one of the all-time greats.
Roy absolutely robbed the Kings in '93. The weakest Canadiens team to ever win a cup! And they wouldn't even have done it had it not been for a dumb rule and biased referee calls to swing the whole thing in their favour...
Bure was amazing to watch at the Canucks games, he had a knack for finding the 5-hole and he could even whack the puck in mid air like a baseball bat into the net and he has done so. Roy was slowly going downhill in the late 90s with the Avs, he started getting frustrated every game and losing his temper which threw his game off.
I hated Roy because I was a Nordiques fan and he was with the Habs, but let's be honest, he actually is one of the best goalies ever. He's looked stupid on many occasions, but every goalie has.
kewinsimpguy, you are so wrong about Roy. He carried the Habs for 10 years. Roy was the ONLY reason the Habs won the Stanley Cup in 1986 and 1993. They were outshot and outplayed in many of those playoff years especially 93 where they won 12 overtime games. Face it Roy was the best goalie in the 80's
Roy was the best from 86 to 96, I guess you can say he's the best of the 80's and 90's, but most would say Brodeur was better in the 90's. My reasoning is the 86 and 93 Stanley Cups were won or some would say stolen by Roy. Those years the Habs were far from being the best team in the NHL. Roy won it himself, and a goalie that can accomplish that should be classified as the best.
Dude Hasek won 6 Vezina trophies and 2 Hart trophies in the 1990's, I think it's safe to say neither Roy or Brodeur were the best of the 90's, Hasek clearly was.
Neat to see what Bure looks like without the helmet. It would have made so much sense for the NHL to have made its controversial 1992-93 optional helmet rule more workable with zero tolerance policies on stick and boarding related offences along with enlarged rinks for the newer arenas being planned at the time, since a number of players actually did sign waivers to go bareheaded. This would have greatly improved fan-player identification and cut down greatly on cheap shots.
The guy was my favorite player of all time. He was disgustingly good. I've never seen a guy have it all offensively the way he did. The most exciting player of the 90's, no question. That guy could score at will.

He wouldn't publicly state what he really thought of the situation if he was upset with the fans, correct.
But would he make a concious effort to state that Vancouver had the best fans in the world, and then go on to sign a new 4-year contract with the Canucks? Because both of those are what happened.
Again, you have no idea what you're talking about. Your brain is obviously distorting whatever you saw on TSN, so stop running off your mouth here as if what you're saying is fact.
You're full of shit, and have no idea what you're talking about. This issue was resolved, Bure played AMAZINGLY during those playoffs, and immediately after the playoffs he stated that Vancouver had the "best fans in the world."
He went on to sign a new contract, and it was not until FOUR YEARS after that that he demanded a trade - mostly because he desired to move to a city where he could enjoy more of a sense of anonymity. So stfu and do your own research before talking out of your ass like that.

I remember watching the skills competion. Marsh did 0 out of the 10 targets, at least the half his shots went wide of or over the net and the other were right in the middle of the net. That was so embarassing for him as a nhl player cause he had difficulty to catch the passes and turn to net.

I remember watching the skills competion. Marsh did 0 out of the 10 targets, at least the half his shots went wide of or over the net and the other were right in the middle of the net. That was so embarassing for him as a nhl player cause he had difficulty to catch the passes and turn to net.
