The original recording of ''Harbor Lights'' by Sammy Kaye featuring vocals by Tony Alamo and Nancy Norman, hit no. 1 on the charts the second and third weeks of November 1950.
My father (born in 1941) always says that today's singers sample too much. I find it interesting that most of the hits from his from of his favorite groups, the Platters were covers.
some of his better-known performances with the Kaye orchestra included Get Out Those Old Records, The Four Winds and the Seven Seas, Wanderin, The Object of My Affections, Say It Isnt So, Longing for You, "Honey" with Judy Johnson and the 1950 smash Harbor Lights. Tony lived in Maple Hts., Ohio and is my first cousin once removed.
Best known for his association with the late sweet band leader Sammy Kaye (b. Mar. 31, 1910, d. Jun. 2, 1987) in the 40s and 50s, the Tony Alamo profiled in this bio should not be confused with the infamous quasi-evangelist/cult leader Tony Alamo. The Alamo profiled in this bio was singing with Kayes sweet band as early as 1940, when the cult leader was only five or six years old.
This is the infamous Minister,Tony Alamo, but what an incomparible voice especially singing with Sammy on "How deep is the ocean",there is not a better version all-time!!!! What a waste of a talent!!!!
Little known? This is the version that everyone else covered through the years, and hit number one in 1950. Tony Alamo and Nancy Norman are the vocalist for Sammy in this one. Great posting Bravo!

Thank you, Kris! Do you know something, I had never listened to the lyrics of
this classic tune! And I love American standards from this era. "I Remember
You" and "Midnight Sun" being two faves. I would've guessed the singer to
be Perry Como. Thanks for sharing this! Hugs, ~Terry -- you were good
from the beginning, video-wise!

Samples and covering songs like the Platters did are completely different.
