I give most of my music away for free under a creative commons license for non commercial use. I am happy that people want to download my music and share it. But if you can afford to pay and would like to help me and other struggling artists like me to make a living, then why not consider some of the alternatives, for example…. (See post below, and thankyou, we need your help and support.)
If you are looking for quality, original, hassle free, inexpensive, legal soundtrack music for your next Youtube video or short film....try "Rumblefish Friendly Music" Just follow the link in the "About Me" section on my page. Only $1.99 per track. (Some good songs...not just library music).
Instead of putting music "up" in Spotify, just put them on your phone directly and all of your songs will be available all the time, whether in the Underground or in Timbuktu. You needn't worry about creating a special list. Come on, folks. You can't fit what you want to listen to on 16, 32 or 64gb of space? Streaming only uses more battery power anyhow.
I just got this and while the concept is great and I like the wireless automatic syncing to my mobile unit, the interface is pretty bad. You pack songs onto your phone in playlists, so you can't browse artists or albums freely. Also, the playlists can only be sorted manually on your computer, if you don't they appear on the phone in the order they were added.
@Vellwander The interface is great. Did it ever occur to you a playlist can be anything you want i.e. the Artist you like and just 1 album... name it that. Or 1 artist and drag ALL their releases into it and name it. Or you have the freedom to make a mixed artist playlist also. Theres a search button right in the interface. Its not hidden. You can browse freely just like the desktop app.
Try long pressing on anything too.
But your right on no sorting a playlist via mobile. oh well
Hi! When i buyed my Android they said i'd get 2 years free spotify on mobile. But when i downloaded app to my Android then i needed to log in?! I don't know a Username or Password.... Can someone help me?
For a way to mute adverts check out youtube.com/watch?v=eXXdWn44RQw
My software Blockify automatically mutes the adverts on Spotify, it works by detecting the title of the window, and automatically muting Spotify until the advert is over.
My software is easy to use, with no installation or setup needed. Simply press a hotkey, this adds the company to a list of adverts.
I pay for my spotify account, its a small monthly fee.
Can't wait for this app to my iphone!
I really hope Apple gets over themselves and lets them release it, if they're afraid of competition they should release something better, not try and stagger digital evolution and their own devices.
This looks amazing! A true BIG step forward in both music and mobile phone technology - and the music industry actually combating piracy by offering users a decent alternative as opposed to randomly suing people.
Congrats to all those involved on such an accomplishment!
Slightly unfair, though (I feel) is the pricing difference between countries for the premium service. It's €9.99 in most of Europe but they charge £9.99 in the UK, when in fact it should work out at around £8.50...
YOU will NOT believe this... there is this website xpango(dot)com that gives away free stuff ( I just got a brand? new PS3!!! :) sign up and type 90539760 on the bottom of the sheet (referral id) and you'll get Ipod nano or any mobile soon!! Try it, have fun and do not say it doesn't work!!!
Spotify is great to be more selective in your downloading. Before Spotify the only way to really explore music was to download a few hundred gigs with mp3's and select a few and then delete the amateurish or commercial crap.
CD's or raw music files, still have the better hand when it comes to quality. I hope they never stop making them, only improving. But when I'm on a bus or just talking a walk outside. It would be great to have some new music if i forgot it at home. So this would be great. Thank you spotify. Now if i only had the money to get a new phone that can support these software's. :o)
About bandwidth usage. Spotify streams at about 160kbps, that's 20kB/s => ~1,17MB per minute, ~70MB per hour so that's ~2,1GB per month if you use it for an hour every day. Needless to say you should probably sign up for an unlimited data plan with your phone company.
Yeah of course, and that's probably what most people will do so they don't have to pay for any data. Hopefully with 4G/LTE our phone companies will give us unlimited data plans for €5-10 per month. Imagine that + Spotify in your phone... It would just be pure happyness.
The greediness of the phone companies in combination with the limitations on TOTAL available bandwidth of mobile data networks ensures that cheap unlimited 4G will still be a minimum of 3-5 years off.
meybe they should team up with carriers to offer a spotify mobile plan for around 14.99 punds a month, that way people can hear music on their phone on the go, and on their computer :)
The phone seems to be pretty slow though imo. And I'm kinda against the sms-typing thing on these kind of cell phones. Nokia N95 8Gb is STILL the best phone I've tried. But that's just my 5 cents.

This is epic.
Spotify is fantastic.
Android is great but still quite immature.
The G1 is average and I agree with the earlier poster about the audio interface.
Out the box it's a choice between charging or listening to music. Not realistic.
However third party HTC adapters work to allow headphone and usb charging so not a total disaster.
This app could be the killer app android needs and again. Spotify is definitively the best thing to happen to the UK music market forever.
Top JOB.

the £10 is way over the odds in my opinion.
- the royalty payment-per-track is 0.085.
- subscription is £9.99
- that equates to paying for 10-12 thousand tracks, per month.
i'm obviously missing something out, but that seems rather disproportionate....
saveourcity 2 years ago
But your getting access to almost any song you want. Stop being so negative.
Nobody is forcing you to pay the £10.
I think it is extremely reasonable. I get access to most music I like for £10 per month and it takes up no extra space on my phone... genius.
mlamont1989 2 years ago 2

I have two questions, first, how much traffic on the mobile would it be for a month, if, say, I use it for an hour a day?
Also, are there plans to release this for WM?

This is fantastic. Glad I'm on Android - just need an updated phone with a better battery life.

Please keep everyone updated on how we should be able to access this.. pricing is pretty important. Sorry but not willing to pay premium rates for this.. however, would still have no problem listening to adverts!
