I watched Cribs over Metalica at Leeds 08. was the best band at the festival for me the crowd was mental and the set was awsome, including when they turned the PA off at the end and the crowd kept singing along for a few minutes :P
im going to see 'johnny marr and the cribs' in liverpool on the 26th...i dont like johnny marr, and after listening to their new album...i have to say im not a big fan. i prefer their older work...just my opinion. i thought i'd just get it out there...so please dont call me things. im entitled to voice my opinion :)
I don't see what people are moaning about :) I love this song and it is still the Cribs but tidier. The anarchic, scruffy sounds of the Cribs may have been one of their charms on pervious records but this is still present in the Jarman's vocals in their live show. Win win!
I'm bored and commenting, so bring on some sort of backlash here but...
Johnny hasn't been kicked out of Modest Mouse, they're on 'indefinite hiatus' - ask Brock what that's meant to mean because not even Johnny knows from what I've heard/read.
To quote Johnny, "Modest Mouse are on a hiatus at the moment but we're a real bunch of super-grown ups and I can play with them any time I like. I probably will be popping up on a few of their records but I'm in The Cribs, they're the band I get in a van with and go on sound checks with and live with at the moment." MM aren't on an hiatus now, as they're getting ready to do a 15 city tour across the US. For the moment though, it seems like JM would rather be in The Cribs van. :)
I loved The Smiths and I think The Cribs are fantastic they remind Me of the rawness and energy that The Ramones had.
It will interesting to see how Johnny's more melodic approaches mixes with The Cribs sound. I saw them in Bradford but they'd hired some twat who couldn't mix and the guitars just drowned out the vocals and the drums.
im a huge fan of johnny marr,,but to some extent i do agree with bedsitter,,johnny is a legend that wont change, but his best guitar work,,and i means its some of the best guitar work in the world ,,he did it in the confines of the smiths,,the bottom line is he inspired morissey and morissey inspired him,,he hasnt had that fire in him to make music at the same level the smiths did, and for one good reason,,morissey and marr needed each other equally, the smiths was a one off.best band ever.
so ur saying that there a mediocre band, and u think ur opinion matters more than jonny marr's on this matter? i tell u what when u become the best guitarest in the world ppl might thing ur right, until then ... shhhh
to other people these bands are amazing, alright, maar doesn't play as much as his abilities are capable of, but i mean its the collaberative sound, and to other people, maybe not you, this is amazing ( :
Well, I´ve been a big fan of Johnny for the last 25 years, so I wonder where his melodic touch has gone? I can´t see any decent melodies in his current sound, wether he´s playing with The Cribs or with Modest Mouse. It´s just rock music, without any jingle jangle and very much mediocre.
ok, i dont want an argument, but times change, younger people, like myself (15) like different stuff. Excluding all the people that follow the charts and stuff, for example, people at the time, loved gun and roses, i find them bloody annnoying cos times change,
But why would Johnny Marr want to play the same style over and over? He's made his name in The Smiths, sure, but do you not think playing in the same waywould get a little boring? I certainly don't think that's creative so if this is what he wants to do then let him do it.
Anyway, you should stop looking for melodies and listen for them instead; if you can't hear it in the dual guitars at the end then you need your hearing checked.
How can you say the cribs are mediocre??? When you are as good as JM you can play with whoever you want! Which is exactly what he has been doing since the split of The Smiths. Hes also played with The Pretenders, Pet Shop Boys, Billy Bragg, Black Grape, Jane Birkin, Talking Heads, and Beck,Bryan Ferry, Kirsty MacColl, Neil Finn, Karl Bartos of Kraftwerk, Talking Heads, Black Grape, Billy Bragg, Pet Shop Boys, Beck and Oasis Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Split Enz & Crowded House. Think im done now!
fuck you. the cribs are the kings of indie after the smiths. Jonny could not choose any band he liked at all. He's only doing one album with the Cribs anyway, so then he can join who you deem as another "mediocre' band and you can go suck his balls even more.
What I class as Indie must be something completely different to you... because the Cribs' lo-fi sound and shouting punky songs are what is raw and so unique about them. I've never heard a band like the Cribs, and I dont think I will ever find one that I like as much or more than them.
agreed spazmonkey92. I've heard some bands doing something similar but that was late 80's (jawbreaker etc), these guys are something else though. You couldn't get much further from arrogant with these guys, they're happy go lucky dudes who make spectacular music. Some people might get it, some people wont. Personally, they're one of my favourite bands full stop.
I didnt know about 'The Healers' but I didnt know he got kicked out of Modest Mouse. Float on was a good song, but I havn't heard much of their stuff apart from that one song... probably because it got to number 1 in the USA.
love the cribs (best band around at the moment), love johnny marr(smiths are my favourite band of all time). don't love this song. doesn't have as much energy as they're other songs for me. its not bad tho. i'm sure they're still gona make a great album as they haven't made a bad one yet. cant wait for more new material
I canr fuckin wait to hear more stuff that they've done with Marr. He's a fuckin genius guitarist & The Cribs are the best band in the country for me.

Yes, if someone is as good as Johnny Marr he can choose any band, right.
So why he´s then choosing such quite mediocre bands like The Cribs?
bedsitter1982 3 years ago
fuck you. the cribs are the kings of indie after the smiths. Jonny could not choose any band he liked at all. He's only doing one album with the Cribs anyway, so then he can join who you deem as another "mediocre' band and you can go suck his balls even more.
