  • The Cribs

    Saving UK music

  • Somebody needs to fire the lighting designer.

  • Tut got the songs wrong the fools

  • cant wait to see them this year. Ryan Jarmans the man.

  • haha johny marr what a treat, i dont think half the people in the audience knew who he was, i was in the middle was crazy

  • oh dear, about to get owned

  • whoever saw these over METALLICA at reading 08, fails.

  • whoever saw metallica over these is a mentally bankrupt moron? what you got on that my love?

  • or maybe they just have better taste in music. Metallica is trash.

  • I watched Cribs over Metalica at Leeds 08. was the best band at the festival for me the crowd was mental and the set was awsome, including when they turned the PA off at the end and the crowd kept singing along for a few minutes :P

  • you arent allowed to say your better !!

This is also good bring on the corn exchange 6th december!! yaldi booom time

  • gonig on the 6th too its going to be beast

  • right.. wtf?

i swear half the tracks promoted by the bbc for Reading and Leeds are given the wrong title... why did they call this 'don't you wanna be relevant' ?

  • johnathan marr.

    alright int he ; )

  • gutted that they didn't play this at manchester apollo

  • lol johnny is not jonathan

  • even with only one B

  • excellent post darcy, Cribbs are my new favouritist band

  • Haha, I like how someone in the crowd has a rake...

  • lol same chords as winner takes it all by abba.

  • Lol at the bit at the bottom where it tells you the name of the song - "Don't you wanna be relevant?". Good old BBC.

    'Johnny Marr and The Cribs'

    Please.

    Just 'The Cribs'.

  • Done.

  • I didn't mean for you to change it lol, i bet you think i'm a right twat.

I was just saying for future endeavors.

  • Thanks anyway, btw.

  • Johnny Marr is a massive influence on these guys, must be amazing to work with the guy! Cant wait to see em =]

  • im going to see 'johnny marr and the cribs' in liverpool on the 26th...i dont like johnny marr, and after listening to their new album...i have to say im not a big fan. i prefer their older work...just my opinion. i thought i'd just get it out there...so please dont call me things. im entitled to voice my opinion :)

  • I don't think this is don't you wanna be relevant...or is it just me??

  • They got the title wrong

  • johnnys addition to the band is going to lift the band n mek em tek off

  • I don't see what people are moaning about :) I love this song and it is still the Cribs but tidier. The anarchic, scruffy sounds of the Cribs may have been one of their charms on pervious records but this is still present in the Jarman's vocals in their live show. Win win!

  • lol at 3 minutes they are having a bum!!

  • The voice of this boy hasn't any shade, comparing with Morrissey.

Johnny Marr ... ¿What happened with you, after Smiths?

  • thats a tune

  • So why'd Johnny say they were? The silly manc legend :P

  • Great song.

  • I'm bored and commenting, so bring on some sort of backlash here but...

Johnny hasn't been kicked out of Modest Mouse, they're on 'indefinite hiatus' - ask Brock what that's meant to mean because not even Johnny knows from what I've heard/read.

The Healers were pretty wank though...

  • To quote Johnny, "Modest Mouse are on a hiatus at the moment but we're a real bunch of super-grown ups and I can play with them any time I like. I probably will be popping up on a few of their records but I'm in The Cribs, they're the band I get in a van with and go on sound checks with and live with at the moment." MM aren't on an hiatus now, as they're getting ready to do a 15 city tour across the US. For the moment though, it seems like JM would rather be in The Cribs van. :)

  • Ryan and Johnny seem to have a real connection on stage. Almost Libertines-esque.

  • yeah lets hope they could write some god songs like pete and carl for their new album! cant wait

  • they beat the libs any dayy (:

  • love it!

    nice pop tune!

  • I loved The Smiths and I think The Cribs are fantastic they remind Me of the rawness and energy that The Ramones had.

It will interesting to see how Johnny's more melodic approaches mixes with The Cribs sound. I saw them in Bradford but they'd hired some twat who couldn't mix and the guitars just drowned out the vocals and the drums.

Looking forward to the new album though !

  • im a huge fan of johnny marr,,but to some extent i do agree with bedsitter,,johnny is a legend that wont change, but his best guitar work,,and i means its some of the best guitar work in the world ,,he did it in the confines of the smiths,,the bottom line is he inspired morissey and morissey inspired him,,he hasnt had that fire in him to make music at the same level the smiths did, and for one good reason,,morissey and marr needed each other equally, the smiths was a one off.best band ever.

  • When listening to this for the first time i couldn't stop singing

    you know we belong together,

you and I forever and ever.

    No matter where you are,

    you're my guiding star.

    Closer each day....

    Home and away...

Not sure i like marr in the cribs, i think he'll ruin them

  • The lyrics are utter garbage.

  • so ur saying that there a mediocre band, and u think ur opinion matters more than jonny marr's on this matter? i tell u what when u become the best guitarest in the world ppl might thing ur right, until then ... shhhh

  • I don´t know why a guitar god like Johnny is playing with mediocre bands like The Cribs or Modest Mouse.

  • Those bands are amazing.. Johnny doenst join them for no reason!!

  • to other people these bands are amazing, alright, maar doesn't play as much as his abilities are capable of, but i mean its the collaberative sound, and to other people, maybe not you, this is amazing ( :

  • Well, I´ve been a big fan of Johnny for the last 25 years, so I wonder where his melodic touch has gone? I can´t see any decent melodies in his current sound, wether he´s playing with The Cribs or with Modest Mouse. It´s just rock music, without any jingle jangle and very much mediocre.

  • ok, i dont want an argument, but times change, younger people, like myself (15) like different stuff. Excluding all the people that follow the charts and stuff, for example, people at the time, loved gun and roses, i find them bloody annnoying cos times change,

  • people between your ages (20) think the cribs are pretty damn mediocre too

  • But why would Johnny Marr want to play the same style over and over? He's made his name in The Smiths, sure, but do you not think playing in the same waywould get a little boring? I certainly don't think that's creative so if this is what he wants to do then let him do it.

Anyway, you should stop looking for melodies and listen for them instead; if you can't hear it in the dual guitars at the end then you need your hearing checked.

  • How can you say the cribs are mediocre??? When you are as good as JM you can play with whoever you want! Which is exactly what he has been doing since the split of The Smiths. Hes also played with The Pretenders, Pet Shop Boys, Billy Bragg, Black Grape, Jane Birkin, Talking Heads, and Beck,Bryan Ferry, Kirsty MacColl, Neil Finn, Karl Bartos of Kraftwerk, Talking Heads, Black Grape, Billy Bragg, Pet Shop Boys, Beck and Oasis Pearl Jam, Radiohead, Split Enz & Crowded House. Think im done now!

  • Yes, if someone is as good as Johnny Marr he can choose any band, right.

So why he´s then choosing such quite mediocre bands like The Cribs?

  • fuck you. the cribs are the kings of indie after the smiths. Jonny could not choose any band he liked at all. He's only doing one album with the Cribs anyway, so then he can join who you deem as another "mediocre' band and you can go suck his balls even more.

    Good day.

  • I agree with you that the cribs are good. but are you seriously suggesting the cribs are the second best ever indie band after the smiths????

they wouldnt make a top 100 list im afraid... even tho they are good clearly stone roses second ;)

  • What I class as Indie must be something completely different to you... because the Cribs' lo-fi sound and shouting punky songs are what is raw and so unique about them. I've never heard a band like the Cribs, and I dont think I will ever find one that I like as much or more than them.

  • agreed spazmonkey92. I've heard some bands doing something similar but that was late 80's (jawbreaker etc), these guys are something else though. You couldn't get much further from arrogant with these guys, they're happy go lucky dudes who make spectacular music. Some people might get it, some people wont. Personally, they're one of my favourite bands full stop.

  • What can I say, except.... I love you.

  • is that why he got kicked out for modest mouse? Oh and I forgot his all star band "The Healers" , they got far didn't they?

  • I didnt know about 'The Healers' but I didnt know he got kicked out of Modest Mouse. Float on was a good song, but I havn't heard much of their stuff apart from that one song... probably because it got to number 1 in the USA.

  • Johnny Marr wasn't even in Modest Mouse when they wrote Float On!

  • I didn't say he was...

  • ''But Marr will be recording with the Cribs while his band tours, so he won't be able to make it, and Fairchild is filling in.''

  • someones been on wikipedia

  • you forgot Marion.

  • modest mouse

  • you said billy bragg twice

  • Mint song, well excited for the new album!

  • fucking class song!!

One of their best yet. Bring on the new album!!

    booyaa

  • i think this song is brilliant

  • well he's a preacher without a care,

except for the fact that all he'll wear are

the things he sees in magazines

he is a victim of mass production

i was caught up with my own beliefs and

well i prided myself on being free but

the powers that be are made of looking for some weapons of past destruction

  • love the cribs (best band around at the moment), love johnny marr(smiths are my favourite band of all time). don't love this song. doesn't have as much energy as they're other songs for me. its not bad tho. i'm sure they're still gona make a great album as they haven't made a bad one yet. cant wait for more new material

  • it'll grow on you

  • Bare in mind it is a live version with the guitar volume set too low.

  • Eeeeee sounds promising.

    Bring on February!!

  • I canr fuckin wait to hear more stuff that they've done with Marr. He's a fuckin genius guitarist & The Cribs are the best band in the country for me.

  • does anyone know if this is gonna be released? i would love it!

  • i'd say it will be on there next album, or if not maybe a b-side.

  • this is their best song by a long way.

  • " 'is alright int he?"

  • cant wait till new album

  • ryans my hero,lol

  • i hate how they name the songs wrong!

i've seen enother one where they've called it victimes of mass destruction.

but i love this song can't wait for a new album :)

    oo ryan looks fit.

  • Thanks, livluv. Duly noted.

  • This isn't "Don't you wanna be relevant?"--the bbc labeled it wrong. It's a new song called "Victim of Mass Production"
