I still dont care what nobody says ,thats not all their hair.I used to work in a salon at that time I didnt know anyone who had that much hair, mixed or not! How are you gonna have it ratted up and it still somes past the half of your back!
i KNOW that chuckle at the end of the clip , it`s Jimmy Saville, long serving British radio DJ and host of tv show Top of the Pops. I have just watched a clip of Ronnie performing this song in 2011, she both sounds and looks great:)))))))))
Sheer class, These wannabees of today TAKE NOTE!! no tatts, no piercings, skirts round their bums. they didnt have to.great stage presence, charisma, feminine, great lyrics, harmonies. The music is timeless, not like todays rubbish..soon forgotten.
@vilnaj U r SOO luckyy!..:D..well.as a 90's kid,it wasn't that bad.the 90's was the best era in pop music,so I am good lol! XD but still,the oldies r AWESOME!!
Have seen/heard about 8 or 9 different videos of this song today. It hasn't gotten old yet. LOVE this. Ronnie's sweet smile never fades. She always gives it her best and gives us her best smile. God bless them and blessed us with them.
Yes!!!! Im only 24 and i think the exact same thing!!!!!!!! How the heck did we decide to change from this music to what we have now!?!?? Its not fair! I want the oldies back!!!!!!
Phil Spector's 'Wall of Sound' backing Ronnie, his wife then. And what a sound it was. This man was sought after by so many famous artists of the time; everyone from the Ronettes, the Crystals and Darlene Love to John Lennon, Ike and Tina Turner, the Righteous Bros. the Beatles, Dion, the Ramones, and I could go on and on ... To bad it turned out as it did, he was a genious!
This is The Ronettes from Bandstand in 1965. The clip seen here was actually used in an episode of "Dick Clark's Golden Greats" which was a clip show. This show was themed around "Girl Groups"".
In order to get the rights to use the master recording of "Be My Baby" we had to get permission from ABKCO records. ABKCO was famous for being the record company that owns all of the Rolling Stones hits up until 1971, Chubby Checker's songs, Sam Cooke's library, Phil Spector's music and many others. T
@SuperSerialKiller83 90% of the TV performances back then were lip synched. I guess they wanted original sounds. Back in those early days of live TV they had not yet learned the value of live performances I suppose.
Incredible tune and an all time favorite - Ronettes do it like no other. Just heard Ronnie Spector perform this live on PBS "Rock, Pop and Doo Wop" special. The lady has class, still looks and sounds great!
I was a kid out of high school going into the military when this song came out. My girlfriend then who is my wife now, bought the 45 for me and said "This is our song and will always be. She sent me a copy when I was in Viet Nam and to this day I still have it and it's still our song. Thanks for keeping it alive.
The Rolling Stones were the first opening group for the Ronnettes in the U.K.. Be My Baby was the first song they sang. As Keith Richards walked past the Ronnettes' Dressing Room, he was awestruck when he heard the girls singing. Keith Richards explained this story on stage at the ceremony for the Ronnettes as they were inducted into the Rock n' Roll Hall of Fame. Estelle died in 2009 in Englewood, New Jersey.....May God rest her soul......
All female singers of that day were so prim & proper.
But for me the little hip wiggle and elbow movement they do on the chorus from 1:20 - 1:33 is infinitely sexier than any of the crass exhibitionist humping, grinding and booty shaking that any female singer does these days.
It's the voice of the the shortest woman here. She has the perfect voice for this song. I'd want to be her baby after listening to her sing this song.
Not knowing much about that era, was this kind of the height of the Detroit music scene in the 60's? Must have been so much promise, so much energy in Detroit then!!
@Duluth07 This was the norm at the time - i.e. great tunes week after week. There was a lot of invention going on; pop had not yet become formulaic. It was indeed the golden age of pop, in my opinion.
@IamAbillionaireNow "All that talent" is responsible for actually breaking up the Ronettes, the very group he launched to stardom. Not to mention ripping off those three ladies for 40+ years, as well as, Darlene Love, of the royalties they deserved. As sick, twisted and evil as he is, he was likely to be in prison sooner or later. Hopefully he'll stay there til he rots.
@mudhens4ever No, she was in a group called the Blossoms, and Phil Spector used her as "filler" for the Wall of Sound as a back-up singer. At one point she worked cleaning offices after working for him. She was finally inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame last year, now that he has been in prison and can no longer use his influence to keep people out (like he did the Ronettes for 20 years).
Wonderful song, I was saddened to hear that Ronnie's sister Estelle had passed away not too long after the Ronnettes were inducted into the Rock-n-Roll Hall of Fame. Estelle was considered the prettiest of the Ronettes.
Beautiful, talented and sweet girls, from a marvellous time, despite the racism of the day, and with worse to come. despite it all, it was great fun to be a teenager then- I was 16 when this song came out- just aching hormones, greased back hair, about 110 lbs. Cool, man. Or thought so anyway. Like all of us then.
Its never easy to be a teen, but those days seem like mostly fun, seen through the mist of time. Hope the kids today have some fun. Tougher now.
people used to say that was their real hair,I knew people with long hair but not that long where you could rat it up and it still be thick and long enough to go past the middle of your back!
@darkebony It was their real hair. Ronnie said in her book that they were teased a lot back in school for their long, straight hair. Kids can be so cruel. She said that she had suffered from somewhat of an identity crisis in her youth, being of mixed race, and that she "sometimes didn't know whether I was black or white". Maybe that was in elementary school, because in high school all three were cheerleaders and popular by that time.
it doesnt get better than this, the drummer and the wall of sound killed it....Awesome song...the drummer kicked ass on this song hes beating the shit out of this hit!!!!!!!!!!

I wish I had been born in the 60's and meet these truly talented & beautiful Ladies.. Their Vocals & Performances is Sheer Class unlike today’s trash selling the bodies to promote themselves!!
@twoodruff01 Well, she has had four children and health problems, like open heart surgery. Ronnie went through a 'chunky' period, but looks like she lost most of it. I saw photos of her in some jeans and she looked tiny!
I think it is VERY significant how well this record has stood up to time. It is STILL as thrilling as it was in the beginning. It is a living legend, just as powerful now as when we all first heard it. After the decades of Hell she's been through Ronnie has come through the other side a true champion. She is looking and sounding wonderful, bless her.
@crazyromanian1 I didn't know that. I know she had a couple of solo songs she did, as well as some songs she did with a group called the Love Chain in 1969. I heard that she sang in her church choir in her later years. Poor Estelle suffered so after the Ronettes broke up. Her story just broke my heart.
This is just magic. All these decades later, and it's better than ever. Especially compared to what passes for music these days. What style! And Ronnie hits notes with a clarity that is not heard anymore. (PS: I still have a secret crush on Nedra)
It's 1965. The first performed it on Bandstand in September 1963. There was a clip from that performance on Youtube a few weeks ago. I don't know if it's still up.
@behdoc ....Thank you. I wanted to double check, and appreciate your getting back to me. By the way, that older clip (not identified as American Bandstand) is stil up.
About a year ago I posted the 1st comment for this video. Someone who calls themselves kissmyARToxo replyed "sure" as if they were Ronnie Spector. When I tried to contact them so they could prove to me that it really was Ronnie, they wrote back to me and said that I was pathetic. Obviously it was not Ronnie. Some "sick in their mind" person thought they could distort my wonderful experience. - NOT A CHANCE ! kissmyARToxo - no - KISS MY ASS XXX YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS PATHETIC !
I love Jews and hate MTV and modern music and rap and hip hop and all that other "ga ga" crap(what a fucking joke). You people are the reason the human race won't be around in fifty years. It's all over you fucks- so stop re-producing when we can't keep up with supply and demand anyways. Kill all newborns for the next twenty-five years and the world will look like 1900 all over again. Don't? welcome home Sadam!
@theone225 The one on the right, Veronica( "Ronnie") and the one in the middle, Estelle, are sisters. Estelle was the older sister. Their last name was Bennett. I say "...was older" because Estelle died two years ago from cancer. G_d rest her precious soul. The are/were one quarter negro, one quarter american indian, and half caucasian. The one on the left is Nedra Talley. She was/is their cousin. She is one quarter negro, one quarter american indian and half hispanic(Puerto Rican).
It seems I read somewhere that Brian Wilson of the Beach Boys considered this song, Be My Baby to be the greatest rock and roll song ever produced. In fact he would listen to it for hours and days holed up in his room. Studying the words, the beat, the rhythm and trying to find a way to emulate it. His band produced the 'male answer' to this song and released it in 1964, called Don't Worry Baby.
This song is number one to me(girl group songs).I'm a big doo wop music lover.I sing parts of this song(did'nt know all the words) through the years.I love the Ronettes cause they where the first female group that had eveything together ,their own style, hair ,dress, dance steps and they could haminize and sing the hell out of this classic song.Love to Estelle Bennett.Love to the Ronettes!! 4/23/10
THIS IS MY 2ND FAVORITE SONG OF ALL TIME SINCE 63'. I MET RONNIE FOR 2 MIN. IN 67',GOT THE AUTOGRAPH ON THE CARD-(featuring the HASSELS-Billy Joels 1st group).I met Ronnie again in 95',showed her her autograph from back then- she was ESSTATTIC !!! She asked me-"YOUR GOING TO GIVE THIS TO ME,ARE'NT YOU". I SAID NO. SHE THEN SIGNED MY STEREO ALBUM COVER. I MET HER HUSBAND,WE ALL TALKED FOR A HALF HR.,TOOK PICS.,-I LOVE HER TOO !!!!!!! HI RONNIE,DO YOU REMEMBER RYE PLAYLAND ? LOVE,EDDY
@unclebillmusic Thank you for sharing these memories with us! I love hearing stories like these. I really hope that I can meet Ronnie and Nedra some day. Really, really wanted to meet Estelle!! G_d rest her precious soul. At least she is not suffering anymore. Thank G_d for that.
MrMLD72MLD,why would you say that to me ? do you think i am a mind reader ? ARE YOU STUPID ? you did'nt post a comment, just your user name/e-(g)mail address, that's all. am i suppossed to know what it stands for ? let's see--mr. my lucky day 1972 my lucky day-does it have anything to do with Ronnie ? if not,why is it on this page ? MY BAD-i got an arrogant answer, from an -------- person,i guess.
i check out you channel. you claim to be european, where are your manners ? i had no "beef" with you
Cher was also doing the backup vocals in this. Spector used anyone that just happened to be in the studio on any given day in his recordings.

Does anybody know the date of this appearance on American Bandstand?
Thanks!
PaulDePace 7 months ago
@PaulDePace

- NOT A CHANCE ! kissmyARToxo - no - KISS MY ASS XXX YOU ARE THE ONE WHO IS PATHETIC !

love this song. probably one of the best love songs there is.

Why do you post this as " LIVE" ? It's lip sync on a live or taped dick Clark show, but the Ronettes aren't singing.

@footcar what do Jews have to do with it >

Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound." Guy was insane but he sure knew how to make music. And Ronnie and the Ronettes were among the very best! =)

@paulouk83 Yeah, that's why Brian Wilson said that he thought it was and would be the greatest rock/pop song ever.

They look black
theone225 1 year ago

LOVE,EDDY
