  • I haven't used my spool gun yet, but I believe your results will improve if you use a stainless steel brush and clean the area very well first.

  • HAHAHA thats too funny,

im going to make a shirt... Use argon, or get Turds!

  • how can i buy that aluminum welding

  • Manual ha use the force Luke

  • GET TURDS !!!!!!!

  • 15-20 CFH is good for argon.

  • always push aluminum wire 10 - 15 degrees forehand . And get rid of the piece of shit spool guns and buy a fucking miller 350 pulse machine .

  • mig weldings ment for indoors

  • Looks like you're off to a pretty good start...run forehand , and the welding tip cleaners..yes i do that..

  • "don't leave your hoses outside in the sun but I do it.....dont store your metal outside, but I do that too, and dont leave your shop messy..like I do.... awwwwwwww dawg look at you look at you...

Dude your awsome. Your video saved me like 3 grand in paying someone to weld for me.

You have convinced me that I can do this, Thanks man!!!!!!!

  • cant wait till i get my gun like what you did clean your garage lol

  • nice vid dude

  • Freddy here are a few tips:

-clean the aluminum first and wipe it clear with acetone.

-Large pieces, preheat aluminum with a torch before welding.

-Watch for soot. Soot means you need to adjust your Argon flow

-Adjust wire speed so the gun does not bind or the wire does not melt into the nozzle

  • Hey man, im a noob myself about to start aluminum welding. Thanks for posting this video. I'm glad I'm not the only dumb one out there. Eheh...just kidding....thanks again.

  • lol

  • hey this is a tip one mig welder to another try pulling you wire away from your molten pool instead of pushing it into unmelted metal it lays down a much nicer bead

  • @twichers11 Ill try that tomorrow. I just found some aluminum to play with. it was just sitting in an abandoned shopping cart next to this sleeping homeless guy. j/k

  • @freddytk421 I just started welding aluminum. Not had as much luck as you. What CFH do you set your argon at?

  • Great vid. Seeing someone make mistakes via video is incredibly useful. It goes so far towards trouble shooting problems both large and small. I even appreciate your comments about leaving hoses outside and then saying that you do it anyway. After spending 4 years, mostly teaching myself and with (heaps of help from Jody Collier), I've learned that 99% of welding is everything you do before you start your arc. Lastly, I've learned, if I can get it done faster by taking short cuts, I will.

  • how much does a welder like that go for?

  • @CWSDevon that one would probably run you about $800

  • @twichers11 That machine is good it's dual voltage and also a stick welder.

  • Thanks for the video.

the comments on here are uncalled for as your title states "first time."

I am a tig welder and some times we get a job thats thick aluminum and it calls for a lot of pieces so we will use a spool gun.

If your working out side crank the argon up to around 30-35+.

Mig welding aluminum only if thicker then 14 gauge or you will blow through.

We get noobs in right out of school all the time. I would rather train you then a no it all kid.

    Make your mistakes and learn.

  • Can relate, but this video is hilarious!

  • Awesome video, thumbs up for being honest. No one is a pro right off the bat. Looks good though!

  • Coffee is bad for the brain

  • nice vid thanks

  • Hahaha that was a good video man... super good honest vid.

  • Your angles are all messed up and you need to slow way down your going way way to fast

  • All that money and you dont even know what the hell your doing just flat out stupid man

  • @jcon455 no one knows what they are doing before they learn how to do it. Racist troll.

  • @freddytk421 how was he being racist??

  • @NGUdOlLoFf he made comments on other videos saying these people where "typical niggers" on one and some other racist stuff on another video. he had it set up so you can see his activity. Nothing here.

  • @jcon455 his welds look good to me, this gentleman must learn as i and many others do, through trial and error

  • forgetting to open is better then forgetting to close... (why do oxygen tanks cost so much to get filled)...

  • Good grief. Put down the camera man! WHY are you putting us all through this? Nice mower btw. Always push aluminum. Don't run a straight line, swirl it. Use Argon, and turn on the gas you bonehead.

  • lol nice video it was funny

  • hahaha.... You have to...uhhhhh, open....theeeeeee,.....argon. Yeah? funny vids, i like 'em

  • is possible to use a spool gun on a TIG machine ?

  • Comment removed

  • great video man. It's nice to see that someone else in this country is down to earth! lol

  • Nice video - Thank you. I will avoid the turds :)

  • Hey do they make self shielded aluminum wire?

  • slow down turbo

  • Thanks for posting

  • You should be useing pure argon not the 75 25 mixture for normal mig and fluxcore and a few tips if the aluminum is cold try taking your tourches get a good cutting flame and just heat it up real quick but make sure you move fast with the heat let it cool for about a min and you should be set for welding. what this does was make it a little bit eaiser to weld with. Also make sure that you use a brand new stainless steel brush on it and make it only for aluminum or else you will CONTAMINATE it.

  • @Captaintsuchi continuation from my last one. Use rubbing alchol to clean it. the only time you should use the brush is if u get the black coating around the weld and to help remove the splater but that should help you out alot better. If you need any other advice just let me know

  • Good on ya mate !

There always heaps of people out there with something to say but

at least your having a go !!!!

  • Aluminium welding by spool gun is a transfer method of welding. keep the nozzle about 3/4 of an inch back from the weld piece...

  • Freddy, I love all your vids, but one thing on some of them drives me NUTS. I think it's your smoke alarm battery going, so every 30 seconds way off in the background I hear "beep". You should have seen me over here. I kept stopping the vid and looking around here, going "wtf was that?" until I figured it out. Check it out at about 0:06, 0:35, 1:04, etc. I think it was on another one about the same post date too.

Anyway, thanks again for the great vids. I'm just chuckling over here.. ;-)

  • Clean the surface with a stainless steel brush before you weld. This helps rid the aluminum of oxidation.

  • ahahahhaha i forgot to turn the argon on today also! learning the same thing, keep it up

  • Looks like your stickout of the contact tip is not enough. I found if I adjust the nozzle to make the tip extend past the end of the nozzle it welds better. If the end of the contact tip is flush or inside the nozzle, it makes the welds look kinda crappy.

Looks like I'm not the only one not to open my gas valves. But I think I've come up with a new art form when that happens. I call it pigeon turd artwelding. Good video though. Just don't mow Scrappy. Maybe Scrappy can have his own Utube site

  • noob

  • @itsalex320 How did you figure that out? I was trying to keep it a secret.

  • Are you conneected (i.e. sponsorship) in anyway with Longevity?

  • @wwwRustbuster They exchanged my first one for the newer model in exchange for a "fair review". I don't work for them or sell them.

  • awesome shop its good to play around to learn

  • you push it and will work better you can stack welds it won't hurt any thing

  • use 100% argon..... not mixed. do research freddy. alot of things to know when welding aluminum....

  • You think they woud ship the longgevity welder to the uk

  • hahahah you call yourself a welder of course you need your gas bottle open lol anyway good vid

  • @MrTomx123 Ok I will when the wind dies I wanted to keep doing it but that wind was pissing me off.

  • i thought welding aluminum was imposible

  • @6013welder aluminum can be welded with stick, tig, mig, and some people say oxyfuel but I have never done that. Probably with lasers and microwaves as well but I really don't know about that.

  • @freddytk421 can it be done with ac stick welder i have a 70 amp stick welder

  • A good clean shop gives you a great place to weld and I thought you had to revers the current also but I am not positive.

  • @ncrdisabled for flux core you need to do that. I did it ep.

  • Aren't you suppose to reverse the polarity when welding aluminum with a mig gun?

  • @spartaeus I know for fluxcore its reverse I think its ep but I will find out for the next one.

  • Freddy,

Thanks for posting the spoolgun vid! Looks neat! Imay buy a spoolgun for the 180 some day.

    Be Cool,

    John

  • @jstrunck I think these fit those machines.

  • Clean your shop!
