They did this in Atlanta and it was amazing. Perry was really playing with the crowd... I believe it made a lot of people there think. Perry really had the Jim Morrison-like ability to embrace and attack the audience and get a message across. One of the best shows I've ever been to - I believe it was peace symbols on the paper for this one... :)
This has all the elements of a Wrestling match. I love that they did it this way. It matters. Sly and the Family knew what they were doing when they made this song, and Perry and Ice knew what they were doing when they did it again.
When Sly & the Family Stone made the song in 1969, they were a multi-racial group and most people understood the message. Of course, the Youtube population has a large percentage of people who are too ignorant to withstand this kind of temptation. Their role models are Beavis and Butthead...."he said nigger! heh, heh"
FOR ALL THOSE WHO THOUGHT RACISM (REPUBLICANS, DEMOCRATS, LIBERALS, GREEN PARTY, TEA PARTY, ETC...) RUNS RAMPANT IN THE WORLD TODAY, JUST TAKE A PAGE FROM THIS COLABORATION AND SHOVE YOUR OPINIONS WHERE THE SUN DON'T SHINE!!!!!!!!
@countbloodula I beg to differ. A nigger is far from an individual. A nigger has a slave mentality accompanied by a severe inferiority complex, thinks the world owes them, and blames white people for everything. By that logic, a nigger is a racist as well. The best definition of a nigger is on The Boondocks; "A nigga moment"
before anyone gets the wrong idea, lets be frank, who cares its entertainment and neither ice-t or perry farrell are racist in any way. they re-made the sly & family stones song and its all in good fun. so to all bleeding hearts out there who are offended by your own fart this isn't for you so kindly fuck off and let us Jane's/Ice-T fans enjoy this lollapolooza clip. Its meant to educate in a way don't call me nigga/don't call me whitey can't we just get along?
I was fortunate enough to see them live at the first Lalapalooza tour (Fairfax, VA).... truly a godlike performance...might have been the couple hits of blotter, but have never seen a performance like it yet t this day....... YEah, come on!!!!
OMFG, this was so damn awesome live in '91 at irvine meadows,ca. The crowd went bullistic cuz all knew the humor and satire of it. This is one of the greatest collaborations in recent years.
It isn't the word that is degrading, it's always the context and past use of the word. It seems that none of the white 'slurs' have any deep meaning, because in popular belief, they are used to being a majority and not pointed out or discriminated. Finding these names seems to be alot easier when you're head is dense and ingnorant.
This was a great show, it was cold and rainy, steam was rising from the crowd, people were still as close to the stage as they could get. I met some really cool people that night that I'll remember forever.
I was actually talking with Perry at my job yesterday since i work with Millennium Park where Lollapalooza is being held and i asked him about this and what it was like he said "It was awesome, i think it worked a little" then he laughed.
so classic, you couldn`t make it anymore or at least it wouldn`t fly 2 far. Body Count rocks and kicked ass this whole tour while T took the pc bullets.member?
"I found a really good use for black people. You can hollow 'em out when they're dead and make wetsuits." He was basically setting up the song by putting the fact and existence of racism right up front.
i didn't say he wasn't a big deal, i said he wasn't the most important man in rock. and he is not.. not one person it. who gives a shit it he runs lollapolooza.
i love the music the beat the message is there but if this is about name calling and Hitler shit Ice-T should be houweling Jew or what ever it is assholes use to describe Jewish people like the word nigger...whitey is after all a word to be used for Anglo Saxons... lets get it right...PS I HATE ALL THIS LABBELING I HATE RASISIM I HATE TO HATE BUT I"M PISSED OFF RIGHT NOW
I was at this concert, and to this day, its still the best one I've been to. I remember freezing my ass off until much later in the afternoon/early evening. Lou Reed's "Take A Walk On the Wild Side" playing on the loudspeaker in between bands.

Hard to believe its been 17 years already. Thanks so much for posting this!
