  • Tune before you play

  • Tune in...

  • you sucks

  • Finally! A good close up where you can actually see how to do it correctly - thanks a lot. I'm pretty sure this is the way it's supposed to be played. Can't understand the thumbs down's. Thanks again!

  • It's not synched right.

  • salad fingers!

    but this helps a lot.

  • I wish I could do that goddamn slappin'.

  • ITS NOT EVEN IN SYNC!

  • who gave this RATARD a guitar?

  • Thank you so much! I was looking for the finger picking pattern for so long and now I've got it! Great video and it helped a lot!

  • plz send the tab of this song, plz!!!!!!!

your videos are just awesome xDD

where can i get this neon's version, everywhere i look for it , i found bad versions of this song..

    plz help me

sry about my crappy english :)!

  • was shit

  • bro ur thumbs freakin me out

  • @clienard haha because of this comment i keep looking at it. it's just super long, looks like a hotdog hitting the strings.

    good playing though

  • hey, man... can you post it again with audio/video in sync? this out of sync can't help... nice tutorial!!!

  • You just had to go and make me look like shit.. Haha joking, that was excellent. :)

  • damn you play it well

  • lol at the beginning the camera goes pretty well, but when you speed up youre going so fast that it gives weird screens sometimes and the sound doesnt go at the same time anymoreXD

  • I'm forwarding anyone who comes across my old tutorial to here until i update it, one question, when you pick the g string... is it more of a slap? or just a dead note because when i speed it up it kinda sounds like a muted dead note...! cheers anyway!

  • haha you're fucking nuts

  • very nice. you literally let your fingers do the talking, the most helpful tutorial i've seen so far

  • I like learning new songs and must say that this one beats all. Just found this video and will start working on it now. Could take months! Wish someone would show the chords. Excellent video! Thanks for sharing your knowledge.

  • Thanks Pimp!

  • when you started to speed up, that was awesome!

  • i know u went slow then fast to demonstrate it but i lyk the sound of it..ur really good =]

  • That's hard :p

  • great man

  • dude i dont see why you need to cross your thumb to play the "g" string. when you hit the gstring you should hear a slap aswell thats because john doesnt play the G string with his thumb he plays it with his index finger in a downward strum while his thumb slaps the low c simultaneously. watch the turorial on stop this train and heart of life on you tube where the dude explains this technique.

  • Stop this train and Neon use different techniques. This is guy is playing neon the same way I've been playing it for five years. John explained how to play neon in a few issues of Acoustic Magazine. It was an "alteration between thumb and index finger" just like this video. Good Job to the player.

  • Kuyaptz211 is right. This technique is different from Stop This train/heart of life.

    Learn something, then comment.

  • Your a DIK sounds like the guy above just wanted to know. Why dont you take it easy.

  • thank you for this. I learned this song about two years ago, and got fed up with trying to play it because it never sounded quite right. now I have it down perfect.

  • this video has still a sound lag

    hehe, just kidding!

nice tutorial, i'll start learning now

  • thank you guildrzeznik

  • I love how everyone has a lesson for this and all they show is what their right hand is doing. I really want to learn this song, but only knowing the slap motion isnt getting me anywhere. Can someone please post a full lesson close up showing the the LEFT hand fingering.

  • Ahh, I've looked at every video and I can't find which chords to use anywhere, I've looked all over and found alot of tabs but none of them sound right.

    !!?!?!?!?

  • your thumb is humongous.

  • thanx so much for the vid i saw them all and they all helped alittle, and now im on my way to learning it haha sweeeeeeet

  • dead note slaps? what do you mean?

  • Thats pretty well played... but its not exactly how john plays it. John uses dead note slaps.... but apart from that this is excellent

  • BIG THANNNNKKKSSS!!!!

  • bravo- this finger picking style is a little hard for me to catch on to . . but I'll figure it out soon enough.

  • ur slapping is perfect for this one,i'm still tying to get to that...

  • when u lower the e-string the string gets so untight that simply touching it will make a sound. thats how it works.

  • do you need an amp for this song?

  • Dude, I don't know y but this song's hard 4 me 2 play. I can play stop this train, heart of life, and the hurt with no prob. I even play some of his blues songs... but this 1 kicks my ass.

  • thats fucking nice man

  • how about a "why georgia" tutorial?

  • so you use just thumb and first finger only?? wow

  • duuuuuuuude

    duuuuuuuuude!

    thanks so much :)

this is a song that ive wanted to play so much but always couldnt get my head around the riff. this is an inspiring vid and well chuffed that i accidentally found it.

    respect

  • Is the "C" string being Slapped like a bass or are you plucking it strongly? Where did you learn how to do this man?

  • i suck at singing, that is the problem :)

  • I vote for "Play the whole song next time!" :-)

  • perfect

  • yeah, the guitar is great, sounds awesome. Yes, Blitzy this piece is genious, JM rocks. keep praticin', you'll get it eventually.

  • great tone on that guitar by the way, good choice

  • this piece is very genius...like it a lot...my thumbs kinda hurts right now lol! gettin calluses...big time.

  • this is so cool, wow, I've been trying to learn this but is way beyond my skill level. This is super slow, and I'll start that way, your fingers went kinda crazy towards the end..... I wish mine were crazy.

    Thanx

  • thanks for the feedback, bro, i appreciate it. yeah, the chords are a pain, but luckily my hands are big enaugh for all chords except for the last chord in the intro, i can do it but 5/10 times the bass string fails to sound, but when you are playing so fast nobody notices that anyway :)

  • ur swesome thnx for the intro tab...i'm practicin it and i think my fingers are a bit shorter lol! i gotta use my pinky.
