  • Ok I brand spankin new to crocheting, I should be able to grab my yarn and hook and start crocheting with this video or do I need more info first?

  • @lefty584 You should be able to learn with this video. I learned to crochet when I was 11 years old by learning the granny square first. If you prefer to learn the basics first check out my back to basics video series. How to crochet back to basics.

  • @Bethintx1 Thanks so much. However I am left handed and had a lot of trouble, I found some south paw videos, but yours really helps me understand what the heck is going on. Thanks again. Maybe I can impress my mom with my new skills, she has been quilting all my life and I always wanted to do those kinds of things

  • helpful Thankyou! :)

  • Ive found that sometimes its easy to be confused with over description. I really recommend picking p a how to book with illistration so you can copy it step by step when you are away from a computer! Happy Hooking!

  • Thank you so much for your VERY HELPFUL videos!! I'm left-handed and at Last I learned with you on friday and now I'm making my first blanket!! THANK YOU SO MUCH!! :) I feel so happy!!! xoxoxo from Spain!

  • Thanks. I love this series. I thought the speed was just right. I just did as she suggested and replayed and replayed and replayed. Beth did a good job explaining the terms and what was going on. Thanks for putting this up for newbies like me. I got a lot of enjoyment out of creating my "first" granny square.

  • great video!

  • WOAH THIS IS MORE COMPLICATED THAN I THOUGHT...but i am going to learn becuase i want to wear my own things.

  • @indiboo13 If this gives you trouble try my back to basics series.

  • I like the way u break it down... U did this video better than any of the others I have tried to learn from

  • Thank you so much! finally I have the hang of it. your teaching method is fantastic! :)

  • I LOVE your tutorials. I went to a lot of the different ones for crocheting and liked yours the best. They are clear, watchable and you are a good teacher!

  • I've been working on this scarf for months now, constantly working on it. I'm knitting it... how long would it take for crocheting?

  • @ApricotFieldsLove Depending on your skill it could be a few hours to a few weeks.

  • ughhhhh i just cant get it!!

  • @Crazy4ChristNB Take a break. sit down and watch without any hook or yarn in your hands. Grab your yarn & hook, then watch again and pause after the first step, work your stitch, then hit play watch without stitching, then pause and try the next part, etc. You have to focus and have no distractions.

  • @Bethintx1 i did what u told Crazy4ChristNB and i did. i got it. but the worst thing happened. my mom wanted to prove that she could crochet. so she did some chains. i didnt know how much she did and she didnt either. but she did heaps. i told her to undo it and she undone more than she was supposed to. i dont know where to start so now im just going to have to start again. it gets frustrating when ur beginner , doesn't it? sigh...

  • Thank you You are a great teacher, I can do it now. You are a great great teacher. You made it so easy.

  • i so appreciate how thorough you are..ive subscribed to your vids..thank you..i have crochet before but forgot how to start the granny square...thank you..you'll have me crocheting this weekend im positive ..Hugssss

  • This vid is where I started when I picked up my first crochet hook and decided to learn. Thank you! I have made a few things from your videos, I would love you to stop by and take a look. crochetgirlinoz(dot)blogspot(dot)com

  • You are a wonderful teacher - Thank you!

  • i can do the chain and the first row, but after that i can never find where to put my hook in!

  • @fufflynuffly, are you having trouble finding the center of the circle?

  • @Bethintx1 a little, but i think its only because i'm messing up the actual yarn part.

  • @fufflynuffly Check out the video response. It has tips that may help you.

  • @Bethintx1 okay thanks :)

  • This is the first time I crocheted and Im so grateful for your videos , Have you got any easy patterns for beginners? Thanks a lot.

  • @imdanella19 If you follow the Back to basics videos you will start with a scarf, then make a beret.

Most of my patterns on You tube are easy. There are a couple of exceptions.

  • I have been looking for someone to show me how to crochet (I did this years ago but have since forgotten)...could not find anyone. I finally thought of Youtube and so grateful for your clear instructions and perfect video. Thank you!!

  • Excellent, just followed this series of videos and made my first square - very clear and helpful, and as I only started crocheting last night you must have done a great job! Thanks again x

  • @DearDiary9972 Keep trying! I learned when I was 11, but I had my cousin do the center circle for me. If you have a friend or family member who crochets, have them help you. If no one crochets and wants to learn, see if they can manage that part. The beginning is the hardest part.

  • Can you teach on how to do a poncho!

  • @AvilaBrothers I have no plans for a poncho at this time, but once you learn the basics and learn to read patterns, you can make any poncho you wish!

  • Thank you so much! Excellent camera work. My daughter and I are headed to the craft store tomorrow!

  • Thank you SO much for making clear, slow, beautiful videos! I picked up a crochet hook for the first time and was very frustrated by most internet tutorials until I found your wonderful videos!! I'm now making a beautiful granny square afghan, thanks again!

  • thanks so much for the videos. they are incredibly helpful and easy to follow.:)

  • i had those crochet needle thing tht looked just like tht..........but i lost them :(

  • thanks this video is very informative^_^*

  • Thank you for this remake! The first one, while very detailed & educational, was very hard to see what was going on...as soon as I hit play on this one, I knew it was a different camera & was MUCH MUCH BETTER!!! =) Since it was clearer, I have a better idea of what I'm supposed to be doing. Thanks again! Also, speed = PERFECT!

  • You are so good to teach everyone!

  • Comment removed

  • @kazarific15994 I see you removed the comment. I know you were frustrated. Watch the video carefully before trying the stitch. You have to hold onto the slip knot when you pull the stitch through.

  • @Bethintx1 Lol, I removed it cause i figured out what i was doing wrong xD

  • @kazarific15994 It's okay to leave it because someone else may be facing the same problem and my answer would help them too. I'm glad you figured it out.

  • A little TOO slow for just one step, but very informative. Thank you

  • @Rejani1025 I think of one of Aesops fables when I read the comments on Too fast or too slow. The moral of the story was, "You cannot please everyone!" There are other YT teachers out there that are faster. I've had comments that I am too fast. I would rather be slow and clear than be too fast and viewers miss the construction of the stitches. Remember, this video is intended for viewers who have never crocheted before.

  • Wonderful tut. I have friends who do this at CYT rehearsels and it makes me jealous watching their fingers and hook fly over the yarn.

  • im left handed :(

  • @stephylove1024 TJW1963 has a left handed Granny square video. Otherwise place a mirror by your computer and watch in the mirror.

  • Thanks for this vid! It's very helpful! :)

  • ok we get the point! can you go a little bit faster plz?

  • great video healped me alot

  • I love your videos and how slow you teach it. I have learned so much from you!

  • Thank you so much for this series of videos! You're very easy to follow and my first ever granny square turned out wonderfully. :)

  • 4 people poked their eye with a hook xD

  • @FreaknJoshwa Nice one! XD

  • @FreaknJoshwa Try 9 more that did. Lol!

  • Makes me really miss my grandparents. Thanks, I've been wanting to learn how to do this.

  • 5:07 Bless you! :D I heard that you were about to sneeze.

  • my first granny square was awesome. thank you ;)

  • I just want to say thank you SO MUCH Bethintx1 for this brill series of videos.

In 1hr 30 mins I've gone from NOTeven knowing how to do a chain, to my first granny square. My tension is a bit 'random' but I'm made up with my first attempt.

I've always wanted to learn to crochet but never had anyone to show me.

I have really enjoyed learning with you! - I'm 'hooked' now, Thank you! :-)

  • love your vide!! i am trying to learn how to crochet so i can make some hats, dresses for my baby girl. hope your videos will help me. thank you

  • I am trying to make a blanket (crocheting for the first time), and I am having so much trouble with this. My yarn seems to keep fraying, and I can't seem to get the tension right. Do you have any suggestions? Also, is this design too hard? Is there an easier beginner design out there?

  • @reneebritton Yarns do split. I find the Susan Bates and Clover hooks help keep that from happening. Another option is you can try my back to basics series. This teaches crochet by working across rows.

  • Hello!

I am trying to make a blanket (crocheting for the first time), and I am having so much trouble with this. My yarn seems to keep fraying, and I can't seem to get the tension right. Do you have any suggestions? Also, is this design too hard? Is there an easier beginner design out there?

  • Where did u get your hook? because i couldn't find a hook just like that :O Thanks!:D

  • @6120rocks I think I purchased a set of these at Hobby Lobby. It may have been Jo Ann's . You can find Susan Bates Hooks on-line.

  • Thank you so much for making these, you have taught me how to crochet! I bought a book which came highly recommended, but I couldn’t make any headway with it - I would have given up if I hadn’t found your videos. I'm completely hooked now *groan*...

  • Thank you so much for this! I need visuals to learn things, and NO ONE seems to crochet any more...

  • @JarofUrine I do :D

  • i dont speak english very well, but this video it the most simply for help me to learn crochet!!! God Bless your patient!! Saludos desde Puerto Rico

  • thanks for reloading this video...i have been trying to find a granny square video that can teach a flake like me. thanks so much. i will purchase some yarn this weekend and work along your video

  • Thanks for putting up these videos, they really helped me learn how to crochet!

  • i love your videos^^ i learned how to crochet from them and i made my fiance a scarf for christmas and sent it to him in japan and he said his room mate and other guys on base wanted one lol so thank you very very much :]

  • thanks for refilming these i actually learned how to crochet from you and ur very first videos you did and i watched and crocheted pulled it all out and restarted the videos and started over again. i did this so many times then one day i felt comfortable not taking it out so i made a bunch of squares and then one day i finally got it and i knew i could do it, I am now on my second baby blanket and all the small squares that i made i added more to them to make them bigger for a blanket later on.

  • This is another version of a slip knot I have not seen (the 180 degree turn)
