I used Audacity 1.3 for the backing tracks. It is free. I try to keep things simple and so I use a cheap plug-in microphone. i record the video on my Canon compact still camera and turn the vocal track into an mp3 with another free program called Free Video To MP3 Converter. the traffic noise doesn't help though.
