We actually went on the 2nd week of May (5/14 + 5/15/2010). May is the best time to go, you will have a nice island breeze and the heat/humidity will not be that great.
I would recommend camping within the Shrub areas. Even though there are great sites next to the beach, the daily breezes will blow your tent away (trust me, that happened to me!).

Awesome...thanks for the quick reply.. we planning on bringing Kayaks to do some fishing and exploring as well. Looks like a blast!
