Eastbourne Pier, the South East of England had this in the huge rotating machine version. It was 50p a go, and as such out the price range of this 11 year old. Used to love watching people on it, though.
THAT is what I miss most in video game music today. Heaven knows I'm infinitly appreciative of every Halo and Human Revolution sound track, but this tiny little thing -
There's no more LEAD IN MUSIC.
Arcade games have that build at the start, where the game finds a cool way of throwing you into the action, and it sets this...meditative tone I'm in utter love with.
Seems this is where they got the inspiration of Starfox's corneria music... Both begin in a very similar way, and the transition to the main melody is almost identical.
@tdark987 if you like at the SNES, 64, and some of the Gamecube(Assault) levels, you can tell that Starfox itself was probably inspired from afterburner.
@ivan2294 - Indeed, temporary speed boost (or brake), homing charged blasts (in reference to missiles) and THE BARREL ROLL before it was really a Barrel Roll, but then again, we're looking at Star Fox 64/Lylat Wars if we want all that.
@SuaveTito - Searched up the aileron roll. You're quite right, actually, but that would probably be because you can still move freely with the controls when you use it ingame.
@FieraDevilWings Yeah, Climax's looks even more like a barrel roll. Of course "Do an aileron roll! (Press Z or R twice)" just isn't as catchy, y'know?
@SuaveTito - And think about it - it could have been a barrel roll, but the G-Diffusers would stabilise the course of the ship so it does not appear to be one.
@FieraDevilWings I suppose so, but even still the G-Diffuser could have made it a barrel roll while staying on course, just a really tight one that would cause Fox to black out. That pesky G-Diffuser makes tearing apart the Star Fox physics really hard (the Arwing's low stall speed, how such a "barrel roll" wouldn't cause Fox to black out even in space, et al).
@FieraDevilWings Haha, Andross isn't even that. He's a brain with eyes and tentacles disguised as a money head and hands that makes terrible puns ("Only I have the brains to rule Lylat"). If that doesn't make you go Whiskey Tango Foxtrot, nothing will.
@nerdycub Seriously? I loved playing the game in the arcades (and definitely one reason why I went to DisneyQuest when I was in Florida). Look forward to that.

What the Fuck is Corneria theme.......Wait, you don't mean music from Star Fox, a game released over six years after Aftburner II...!!!!!!
Anyway, doesn't sound like Afterburner at all.

@FieraDevilWings After Burner was closer to a barrel roll than Star Fox. The Star Fox "barrel roll" is an aileron roll.
