  • now the uptodate comment fermi = fail.

  • I understand that the wood screws enhance the tessellation features on the GPU.

  • Isn't metro 2033 going to be the first game to actually use DX11 features? Too late for Nvidia? The game isn't even out.

Explaining that this new architecture is for future games is a hurdle. Until dev's really dip their feet into DX11 the Fermi can't show it's true power...

Another hurdle is the production costs of the GPU.. about 2X that of the 5870.

On the positive NVIDIA has a new architecture to push and yields will grow, thus lowering the production costs. I'm getting one.

  • When come's the Fermi out on the market? should i wait and see if the prices will fall on the 5xxx series, and GTX 2xx?

  • Can't wait for this shit to come out so i can get a GTX 295 for like 200$

  • @GoodDay2YouSir if you can still find one... I doubt.

  • And........When is the release date for Spermi????

  • @shinraorg xD

  • @shinraorg LOL RETARD

  • Left4james,

Try turning on proper transperency super sampled anti aliasing. My gtx 285 drops from 80fps to 40 1600x1200 in modern warfare 1 on the sniper mission. Msaa transparency aa is not very good quality. Gf100 fixes this with 32 cover samples at 97% speed of 8 cover samples the gt200 can do. And 8 times geometry performance with tesselation and gpgpu physics is going to pave the way for cinematic 3d graphics. Yes nvidia have finally made the setup engine parallel.

  • HD6000 series will make these cards bite the dust hard

  • @klote2314 good joke there dude. i laughed.

  • Ass u can see theres not gonna be 6000 for a long time

  • Wait...first the Fermi must ship and second they need to beat the HD5000 Series...i do not see any chance for that....

  • theyve already beat it with fermi...

  • Fermi is a bloated chip...much raw-power but not much power for real gaming...to big, it needs to much energy and it is to expensive...a complete failure...

  • uh... thats basically the definition of the 5970 but LESS powerful than fermi,

  • Oh man please study the story of the RV770 and the RV870 and you will see what the problem of nVidia is...fermi uses to much power (more then PCI-E can afford) and thats why fermi will be slow...

  • @bluefisch200 I wouldn't say it's a failure at all. Thinking that gaming is the ideal place for such chip, *that* would be a failure. This thing can revolutionize many supercomputing scenarios.

  • cmon dude nvidia has had almost half a year more to develope a more powerfull card thant ati, i forsee this to be the holy grail of cards for dx11

  • @chongbong The fermi is not so late because he will be faster...he is late because of many problems nVidia had with 40nm and this big chip...they MUST beat the RV870...but they can not beat the R870 (aka HD5970)...and thats the problem...if the GTX480 is faster then the HD5870 (10% is enough) i will be very happy...the ATI HD5850 is very expensive at the moment...

  • on nvidia website they say it will be 5x faster that the gtx 295. we will see when it comes out

  • @chongbong you obviously havent seen any benchmarks

  • you cant max out crysis or farcry 2 @1920x1080 or more, and some people want to do this, its obvious on 20inch monitor 8800gts is more than enough, but as AdeonC say some ppl like to play at higher res or in multimonitor..and wtf you can watch more than one monitor, is only one game, you have center of the image in front of you and others part (left/right) on the others monitors

  • lol whats the point of selling say a card like 260 gtx and spending hundreds on a new card when an 8800gt plays most new games on high even max so a 260gtx will max out any game with a good processor so whats the point of wasting your money on something where developers still use the old graphics card if you look on the back say resident evil 5 a geforce 6800 lol

  • @left4james: some people like to use three monitors and play games with max settings in a huge resolution. It's kinda impossible without using at least a SLI or ATI's crossfire with standard cards.

  • lol but you can only look at one monitor at a time

  • you can see the numbers and compare

  • you have your point

  • lol just wondered why ppl want to spend money when they probably have a good card in there machine cause my card i had an 8800GT but now have a new card that someone bought me for christmas but i loved that card i play most games high without a problem sold it for £40

  • Many 2009/2010 release games on PC that are *NOT* console ports cannot run on maximum settings with acceptable framerates (ie minimum 30 fps). Even Crysis, a 2007 title, cannot run at a decent resolution (1600x1200) consistently.

  • DX11 features will be a big jump... Direct Compute GpGpu, tesselation... As for speed, I see your point... Fermi should be another long lasting GPU. Future chips will be speed updates and value chips.

The 8800 was a new architecture.

Now it will be the minimum requirement for metro. The game will look better with a DX11 card.

  • monkeyturds, i dont mean to sound rude or make you seem like an idiot but this card isnt the first directx 11 card, ati has like 50 of them, and im no ati fanboy but fermi already hasnt beat the 5970 as of specs at the las vegas show, but it definately beats the 5870, so get your facts straight buds.

  • Im not an ATI fanboy (actually i prefer nvidia for no good reason) However, i have to say that nvidia prices their products like crap.

Im waiting for these new cards to be priced well, and if they are not priced well within the first month, hopefully ATI lowers their prices a bit, and il get a 5850 or something

  • Sp when the hell is Nvidia going to come out with a DX11 card? they need to get there shit together.

  • @workensmart

This is a DX11 card - and it will run it better then any ATi card.

  • I know it is. I ment when are they going to come out in stores so I can buy one. My GTX275 is the oldest part of my system. I want the GTX470.

  • @workensmart

    ooohh my bad sorry.

I have a BFG GTX285. Depending on the price, I want to sell that card and pick up 2 of these new ones! Supposed to be out by end of this quarter. So, March sometime? Maybe April

  • You gave me a thumbs down didn't you!!! LOL I'm just messing with you. But yea when Nvidia comes out with the GTX470 I plane on getting one as soon as they drop the price. But if its in the $400 range then I'll get one.

  • @workensmart

    ..maybe.. lol

Yeah, the problem is that the GTX285's are still $400 - $450. So I'm not sure the GTX470/480 will be that 'cheap'.

  • lol, the low end fermi cards will cost at least 300$ and the high end will be around 800... stick with ATI!

  • comon now, 800? do u really think nvidia would commit financial suicide by pricing them that high? the high end will cost probably around 600 AT FIRST than a month or two later after enough supplies are out will fall down to the industry norm of 500 or maybe even 450

  • I'm wondering if Fermi is energy friendly just like the ATI 5800 series and 5700 series. I don't know what specs GF 100 Fermi has, but we'll see what happens.

  • heh, from what ive read its BARELY within pcie specs its at 280+ watts tdp heh, 300 is max allowed now that doesnt really mean its good or bad since i really dont think ppl will care about buying a card out of spec and most ppl will over clock it and then it will certainly be out of spec but, its gonna be a power hungry card no way around it.

  • well I do, because I'm somewhat want to save energy for my house and save some money on bills. Plus trying to save some gas while driving.

  • oh i hear ya but,...the desire to have the best card over powers that.

  • I really hope ATI or NVIDIA release powerful graphic cards with energy efficiency, just like Intel and AMD did for their cpus.

  • @unrealriot

Alienware did that...sorta... In the m17x laptops u can switch between high and low power - which means using (in my case) 2x GTS260M in SLi or in low power using a 9400GT 512MB. Runs a lot quieter and uses a lot less power.

  • For desktops, I'm looking to see both graphics card that can do almost like speedstep or cool'n quiet technology.

  • @unrealriot

Mine keeps my room warm when its cold old hehe. But yeah, my PC is rarely ever shutoff. I suppose its not sucking too much power just downloading while I sleep, but it could use less, for sure

  • I don't care so much about how much power it uses in a game as it's idle power..... I often leave my computer on and I don't want to have a stroke opening the electric bill lol...

Low idle saves me the most.

  • 3.52 fps MEGA LOL :D Just 1 big Laaaaaaaaag

  • Lol physx

  • amd cant do this physx

  • Physx is a lure. There's only a couple dozen games that use HARDWARE physx and only two I can think of that are worth playing (Mirror's Edge, Arkham Asylum) . With the coming of opengl as the industry standard physx will become obsolete.

  • lol, it's cool, I'm a programmer. I can't wait for this hardware war to be over. I saw this one video where a woman was touting the Telsa card, saying we can run the simulation 100x faster. I would think she'd say something about new research, but apparently the key to the mysteries of the universe can only be viewed at certain fps. But I understand business models, which is why $10 raw materials need to recoup r&D costs resulting in $1000 components.. but i dont really care anymoarr :|

  • Games are still running under proprietary API's because using an open source one doesnt net really any money at all and it takes money away from programmers. Its for a balance in the industry that we have them.

  • What balance? Hardware physx titles are beyond rare and physx itself is limited to eye candy without gameplay by being proprietary. An industry standard will beneficiate both the industry and game - fortunately it's coming.

  • @MrMalavon but so far, it is still falling behind because even though OpenGL 3 has some relation to DX10, it took 2 1/2 years to develop it when we are already into the next step and thats DX11.

  • @mda40000

    This is a DX11 card

  • @monkeyturds uh no duh... i know these are DX11 cards, i practically follow Fermi right now. First Dual GPU that comes out on GF104 im getting

  • eh, i agree physx is over played a bit and is somewhat gimicky but, it is native to unreal engine 3 and ALOT, i mean ALOT of games use that engine so.....it can have its benefits, to be honest i dont see much of an improvement over havok :X but anything done on hardware other than the cpu is good i guess.

  • Fermi cards will cost less than the GTX 295? Even though they planned on selling this as a GPGPU to supercomputers for $2500 a pop? I don't think so.

  • well technically, if they did it right, either they disable ECC (which is bad in terms for gaming for the memory to correct itself while under stress), they disable some CUDA cores on the first revision of Fermi (GF100 maybe. im waiting till GF104), and they already made the CUDA cores into MIMD instead of SIMD clusters (Multiple instructions multiple data) which is faster processing for the GPU and the Chip caches are increased (L1 is 64k total, L2 is 768k and these are alot in terms of a GPU).

  • if need be, i will build my own dedicated powerstation. The polar ice cap melt for all i care, i live like 100m above see level.

  • I dont care about price or power consumption. I'm going to buy the best graphics card and the best cooling solution.

  • nvidia sucks now, i remember the glory days when i had my 8800gts 320 or my old 9800gt or 6600gt was bad ass. the last time i would of gotten an ati card was back in the radeon 9700 days. sense the 4800 series i couldn't even help getting the best cards for the best cost. i first got the 4870 512, then bumped it up to the 4850x2, now im happy with my 5870 in crossfire. oh and BTW i get lot more then 68.1fps with a single 5870. they are pretty much on par with the 295.

  • loool ... you´re right on what you saying , buy think with me , why nvidea take so much time to lauch a new gpu ? becouse they´re wait for ATI to make they first dx11 graphic´s card, and ... like we can see, just the gtx 100 with fermi gpu, its better then hd5870 ... and gtx100 will be the low performance graphic´s of the new gpu fermi, ye ... becouse gtx300 will be like 3xbetter then gtx100(like 9800gx2 was 3xbetter then 9600gt)

  • like nvidea owned directx 10, they will own directx 11 too ... that´s my opinion

  • it looks interesting ...

  • is nvidia going to release a mid end card

  • that doesn't mean less money for the consumer

  • @x50calx

first off all there are no official and reliable informations about fermis single precision performance

the only info about the performance comes from a leaked benchmark vid of fc2

gf100 gets 84,18fps on the fc2 benchmark at 1920x1200 4xAA and max settings.

    a gtx295 gets 86,9fps so 1*gf100 is slower then a gtx295.(5870 = 68,1fps)

5870 temp on lad is 76C.

gtx285=80C and according to fudzilla gf100 "will probably end up hotter than the previous single chip generation"

  • You're going by speculation, not by nvidia press release or white paper. Single precision is discussed in the white paper, check pages 5, 11, and 13.

You need to cross reference your information, fudzilla alone isn't worth while to listen to.

I think nVidia is a far more reliable source, then a bunch of people speculating about what could be.

  • @hanscool26

if i need more graphicspower i will buy 2 cards, Bling Bling :)

I will need a new power supply though!

  • Nvidia fermi will need more power consumption , and i don't like , nvidia good for design , for the games is not good

  • You're an idiot.. you don't know what the fuck you're talking about.

  • coming 5970x2

    or 5970 at 512bit

  • 30% better than 5970

  • The real thing will be more like 50% better than 5970! 30% for the rendering rate, and extra 20% for much much better effects!

  • 200% the price too.

  • Comment removed

  • took 2 long from nvidia and still nothing ready for end-users . total marketing fermi fail.

  • what the fuck, theirs no 5990, stupid, theres a 5970, which is like 5870x2

  • Well there will be another card out at some point as ATI have speculated this.

    Presumably a 5*** version of the 4890.

  • 5970 is already here Mate!

  • @sammynicholas I know that card is out the 5970 is basically a 5870x2. I was talking about 5*** series equivelent of a 4890.

  • hmm ... soo ... they say : this is UNBELIVIBLE WORLDRECORD O.O OH MY GOD! ... i say : what the hack is interesting in this ? and we will have 125 fps in TOTAL Maxed Out Crysis or not ? i don't think ... We can maximize GTA IV with this ? i don't think ... and we will buy this shEEt ? i don't think ...

  • gta 4 definately, it will have 1500 mb of ram =) crysis yes for 1080p but not for 30" 2560+ 1500 but heck i have 3 22" monitors 5050*1050 it'll run better then30" =)

  • huh? (Fermi GF104) GTX395 will have >200%(At Least) rendering power of the GTX295 and right now Im running max out in Crysis @2560x1600 running avg of 75fps with a little OC and volt mod, So i think with one GTX395 with some tweak, I might be able to get maxout with 3D vision at the same setting, which mean about >140fps + much more!

  • @sammynicholas Have you seen the speculated power usage of the 395? the 360 is already at the max. The 395 will take a nuclear reactor to power.

And sure that isn't your max FPS as thats way too high for 2560x1600....Sure you dont mean 30-40..

  • 75fps without Qaa

    22fps with Qaa!

  • =Unplayable Sadly!

  • GTFO, I can run Crysis on max on my GTX260.

  • i can almost max it out with settings very high 4xaa 1600x1024 on my bfg gts250 it is a very good card and runs real cool to i sit at less than 60c after hours of crysis idles at 37 to 39c

  • Yeah at 1024x768 maybe :D My 295 struggles, but I'm using 2048x1152

  • some people think 295 wont struggle but mine with my 30inch screens struggle to almost unplayable @ 2560x1600 You have my support!

  • holy shit

  • lmao

  • 32x AA? FINALLY! Do you have any idea how painful it's been for me enduring jagged edges on my IMAX screen these last few months?

My girlfriend almost dumped me the other day when she walked right up to the screen and saw jagged edges all over a tree on the horizon in Crysis. Those were difficult times.

    THANK YOU, NVIDIA.

  • lol

  • @1988scottcarey so you got dumped because you were obsessed with jagged edges?

  • Over your head.

  • wow that is really strange i read your comment and then "can't get you out my head" just started playing on the radio.

  • Rofl

  • lmao,i gotta learn sarcasm frm u man.

  • LMAO

  • Comment removed

  • I hope I have the money for it when it comes out and also the freakin room in my case

  • its the tesla fucktards

  • what? is tesla the substitute to petroleum????????

  • @13vafanculo I said this is not the 300 seriews its the tesla

  • why have you found a substitute for petroleum because if you did we are saved then ; P.

  • lol you guys will listen to anything these people say on youtube :L

  • Conpiracy theory my dick this is all shit and we all gonna die in 50 years time anyways.

  • says the person saying we will die in 50 years time :L next mayan calendar fail LOL

  • and before you reply saying another video on youtube says the same thing, its all conspiracy theories they don't know half of what they are posting.

  • FAKE

The card he had didn't even work! It was an engineering show model. What was shown at the conference was a pre-recorded simulation.

  • any word on when this card is going to bve released to the public? i heard next month this month sometime between jan-april

  • and also Fermi refers to the new Tesla C2050 / 2070 & S2050 / 2070 do some research :D

  • just for your reference

Thats the Tesla series NOT Geforce series = =

  • he's comparing it to the telsa. it is not a telsa series its a geforce series. thats why its real name is gt300. fermi is just its code name.

  • Do your research before you make a comment

look up the Tesla C2050/2070 & S2050/2070 Series this is the video for the preview of the cards that are still to come out. fermi is just the code name for the higher end tesla graphics cards. NOT THE GEFORCE 300 SERIES RANGE

  • Fermi is the codename of the architecture to be used in the upcoming GeForce, Quadro and Tesla lineup. Analogically, it's the same as "Nehalem" is for Intel, used on Core and Xeon lineups.

So, the Fermi architecture will indeed be used for GeForce cards.

  • fermi is for geforce 300 series, nvidia already said -.-

  • @vodkahack yea i dunwan nvidia make us disappointed....

  • i wanted to buy ATI 5750....but since ATI do not supports physx i am waiting for nvidia directx 11 to be released...

  • Rofl XD in DX11 all cards can use physics

  • its not dx11 means support of new shadermodel 5.0, but i asked at the amd support center they told me ati 4870 & above & hd 5000series can support physx via amd's steam technology

  • then why does batman AA not gain any performance from enabling PhysX on the ATI cards but only nVidia cards gain?

  • physx is officially supported by nvidia cards not ATI...thats y may be the ATI cards do not give better performance on physx...but i am not sure

  • its far less efficient tho, but same goes for nvidia's support for amd's proprietary physics engine - havoc

  • Havok wasn't developed by AMD, it was developed by and irish company also named Havok. There was a project called Havok FX aiming to provide hardware physics acceleration for Havok on both ATI and NVIDIA GPUs, but that never actually happened.

  • Look at this. EVERY card from the 9800 series+ (nvidia) and 4870+(ATI) should/would be able to support dx11, as the companies will upgrade drivers allowing the support for these cards. This card, should indeed have a much GREATER performance than ANY ATI card. Thus, because the anticipated performance increase from any card is expected to be as/if not greater than the 7800-8800 launch (nvidia) being a HUGE leap in performance. This will definitely rock things up for both competitors.

  • The GeForce 9 and 200 series and Radeon HD4000 series can't run DirectX 11 due to lack of tesselation units, hull shaders and domain shaders. They can run DirectCompute, though.

  • i hope this card will be better than 5970...

  • me too

  • ATI 5970 ownz this!!!

  • Unless you've used an nvidia and ATI card (I have 2 computers 1 running 9800GT and the other running 4890) can you look at the greater spectrum and assume that this card will run better than a 5970. Let me explain the greatest distringuishment. The driver support that ATI offer their cards are far less advance in artitechture than the nvidia drivers. Thus, in actual fact, allowing more power run through the nvidia cards (if they ran the same specs). Nonetheless, we will wait and see.

  • i beleive games wont need this much power from a graphics card for a while which is why i will change from nvidida to ati. pretty stupid to spend £500+ on that much power and not being able to make the most of it.

  • Yeah, you see. That's the biggest con with this. The price. I understand where you're coming from completely, about the games that don't need that much power, however, just to rock things up in the virtual world, I anticipate the "crysis" of dx11 to be released around the same time as this card. As well as starcraft, that will in some way, in highest graphics, be the crysis of the RTS world.

  • the only reason why crysis needs so much power is because its very poorly coded, as most games are by EA. stupid buying hundreds of pounds on a graphics card to play 1 or 2 games. also the new nvidia cards will be monsterous.. not only double precision but also GDDR5. so i beleive the only way ATI will be able to keep up is by lowering thier prices by a big margin.

  • its not EA who made Crysis.

  • I don't think you have the proper knowledge about software development to state any game was poorly coded. Crytek did a great job with Crysis and I hope they keep it up.

  • lol i guess you dont have proper knowledge if you think they did a great job with crysis. huge lag even with the latest hardware says it all..

  • First, I don't think the term "lag" applies to low framerate. Second, that makes no sense, there's no guaratee that after so many generations of hardware a determined software will be invariably running well. If Crysis still can't run well, that's because the hardware still isn't good enough, not because the game was poorly made. It's ridiculous for a person like you to say it's poorly coded when every review praises Crytek for CryEngine 2.

  • its not a problem with the game itself, it just too much for ur computer to process

  • distringuishment is not a word.

  • Distinguishment* It's called a typo. Sorry, that I'm not a machine who gets every single word 100% correct, I'll leave you with a non-sincere "thankyou". Now that I didn't leave a space between the "thank" and "you", go point it out and make an arse of yourself.

  • :( GO ATI AMD! HD 5970!

  • it's not fake ... this card is ass kickin' but it's designed for developers and supercomputers and so on

  • ups. I was drunk when I make the comment :P. any way my point is....

    nvidia lost the race

1: directx 10 was designed mostly for nvidia.

    2: nvidia 280 has 900 Gflops

    3: 4870 has 1.2 teraflops

4:directx 11 designed for ATI cards

    5: 5870 has 2.7 teraflops

nvidia got alot of problems reaching the 1.8 teraflops with the 295 so I don't think we are going to see nvidia at least for afew months.

aaa in my point of view Intel looks like is scare of AMD, intel just payed amd 2.5 billion $

  • That was an agreement so that they would leave behind licensing sues and thing of that kind. Also, it's ridiculous to say that a DirectX version was designed for one brand of cards. DirectX is just a set of .dll libraries. The card manufacturers are the ones that have to adapt themselves to use those libraries.

  • tanks for the info.

what I know is that microsoft ask for help to The card manufacturers to create the directx and direct x 10 was mosly designed by nvidia. This time was the chance for ATI, to create directx 11.

rigth now envidia is focusing to another marcket developer,s and supercomputers but not for gameing.

this is just my perception, of what is going on with this companys.

  • With no intention to be rude, your perception is wrong. First, even if a company helps with designing DirectX, that's not gonna give them any performance advantage. DirectX SDK gives equal access to any DirectX funcion to any company that uses it, so every library can be used by ATI, NVIDIA, Intel, Chrome, or any other manufacturer regardless of who helped creating the DirectX version. And there's been no word about NVIDIA focusing on supercomputing. That's a very limited market to focus on.

  • mans its fake ...

  • I would like to not have fanboy answers.

What should i take? i would like to change my

gtx 280 but idk should i buy another gtx 280 and go sli? or should i buy a gtx 295 or the 5870 or wait until fermi and ati's new is out and buy one of them? What should i take..?

  • buy 5870 and wait for gt300

  • GTX295 would be waste of money. Two GTX 285s would be much better(and cheaper). 5870 would be a decent upgrade but i guess 5970 or fermi would be the best choice.

  • So should i wait for nvidia ro release their Fermi and afterwards compare with ati's cards..? or should i go for like tripple sli (3x) Radeon hd 4870 1GB?

  • hees what id do., id sell the gtx280 on ebay..could get about £150 for it, or w/e seems right in dollars..then buy 1 ati 5870..its dx11 and is on the same sort of performance to the gtx295, seems like the best option for me tbh

  • performance / price... ATI sure win!

  • - driver support

  • I heard some rumors around the new "fermi" gpu, its been said when the new card hits the marked its going to hit it hard, someone has found out that the costs have piled up, some even speculate that they can't come out with the new gpus before Q4. Also, the price is going to be massive, 900~ 1200 dollars, for the first generation. Fermi is incredible, but I don't think it will be out before the end of 2010.

  • Nvidia already failed its fans by not releasing anything to compete with ATI and probably wont until april-may 2010 if not beyond that. Many have migrated to ATI , by the time the GT300 comes out ATI will be ahead one step again with a new product and Nvidia will never catch up.

  • Its not like they're not trying, they have had some licensing issues, which cost money, the new 40 nm production is also having some problems. Things aren't going swell for anybody. We're still in deep horseshit with this crazy wallstreet screw up. Nvidia did have a new card out, I think the GT200 is the name. Ati did do a good job with their new HD5xxx series, but I'm not impressed so far, DX11 means nothing without software. Anyways, have a good one !

  • That absolutely right!...

ATI will come with 5890 series which super power GPU/Memory clock & improvement over 5870.

  • you all forgot the funniest part,

its going to cost much more than the 5890 yes i said 90

    =D
