I still have an original twinkles the elephant wind - up toy that was stored away for the last forty five years or so. My brother moved out of the house where I grew up and in the attic I found a box of old junk. The inflatable Beatles, which were sold with a coupon from ivory soap in 1964, and some old coloring books. This commercial reminds me of being a kid again.
General Mills introduced "Twinkles" as a breakfast cereal in the summer of 1960 {this was one of the first ads that introduced it}, and his 90 second adventures [narrated by George S. Irving] were seen that fall on the GM-sponsored "KING LEONARDO AND HIS SHORT SUBJECTS" (and for a time of "ROCKY AND HIS FRIENDS", until Jay Ward objected to GM inserting them into HIS show).
