  • This guy is absolutely right. I got the new TiVo last month and I am no techie, but this is so easy to program and use. It really is amazing, especially for a person likee who has used time Warner and suffered!

  • actually the TiVo HD interface is super slow. The DVR can't stream shows that are already on your network or home server unless you specifically run software to trick the TiVo into thinking its getting video from a TiVo stream source, and even then its not very good at streaming.

You don't get the free OnDemand channels that your normal cable DVR gives you, and so you don't get any of the free HD content that everyone else gets.

TiVo better keep up with new DVR's from comcast in Q4 2011

  • @Electrox3d Also the Amazon video TiVo lets you have is not Amazon Streaming, so if you have Amazon Prime and get Streaming, you still can't watch this on your TiVo. The TiVo Amazon video is the one where you buy the show or movie on your TiVo box and then it downloads.

  • As a new TiVo Premiere owner, I have the following comments.

    1) The SDUI menus look like they were designed by a beginner web designer in 1999! Please update all the menus to HD with a Video window, and increase the size of the Video window by 50%,

    2) Netflix App interface needs a major update.

    3) Amazon App needs an update with Amazon Prime Instant streaming added.

    4) Streaming ability needs added back and officially supported for protected content.

I imagine you will get no response from Tivo.

A couple years ago, when the woman was in these videos (forgot her name) ... she would respond to comments.

If it was not her, then someone did respond "as her" to people's comments.

It is also sad that Tivo deleted all the older videos here.

  • @BryanInPHX Interesting info:

How long have you had it for?

    Would you recommend it ?

I'm looking for options to cut the cable and I'm stuck between this and a roku box, I know the roku can't record OTA tv but it offers more streaming options, both are HD and HDMI compatible and both have a ethernet port which for me is a plus...but I'm stuck, so any help would be nice.

    Thanks.

  • @djEvilDude Yes, I would recommend the TiVo, I have had it for just over 4 weeks.

Look for the $59 deal at J&R Music usually around the 3rd Thursday of the month. DVR has been great, Netflix is very good, Universal Search is great, finds TV, Netflix, Amazon, Blockbuster, YouTube. I have seen a lot of complaints about the HDUI Menus being slow or freezing up, I have experienced no real issues with the HDUI. I have the TiVo connected to a D-Link Wireless N Bridge works great.

  • @djEvilDude If you download and configure 3rd party software to your PC called pyTiVo, you can Push (upload) most any type of video file to the TiVo - mpeg, vob, avi, mp4, mkv, flv. I plan to upgrade the internal HDD from the stock 320GB to a 2TB WD AV-GP HDD.

TiVo did just announce a 4-Tuner Premiere Elite soon to be released for $499.99

All TiVo Premieres do require either a $20/mo or $499 Lifetime subscription. I chose the 499 Lifetime.

  • @djEvilDude

I am not using my TiVo w/ OTA. I am using a CableCARD. Some reviews say the OTA tuners are a little weak. You might want to research that at the TiVo Community Forums: tivocommunity(dot)com
