  • Duralast batteries. Smart man. Haha

  • My battery says 10/08.....is my battery too old or when does it get too old?

  • @emw816 most battery will last 6-10 years so its not too old

  • Whats the diffrence between taking your batery in to be charged and just turning your car on ( assuming you can)

  • @sickwititty If a battery is low, running the car for an hour on the highway would recharge it if you have the time to do that. Scotty

  • i heard that maintainance free batttery does not last long if the engine bay is too hot... is this true? if it is can i just relocate the battery to the rear bonet? any pros and cons if i do this?

  • @NEVERENDS90 yes, that's why some cars have em in the trunk. Scotty

  • I'm sure someone may have already mentioned this but on checking the battery's fluid level, what if you've got a maintenance free battery?

I know you can't check the water on those, much less refill them, but just wanted to mention that you forgot to talk about them.

  • how do you get ahold of all these cars?

  • @willjoh08 I'm a mechanic, I work on cars monday thru friday, and I also road test cars for manufacturers. So I have tons of em to film. Scotty

  • Like scotty said, make sure you have a good battery, as a weak one strains the alternator and can even cause it to voltage spike and damage other sensitive electronic components. Unfortunately, many batteries are sealed now, and you cannot check the fluid level as he demonstrated, but most auto parts stores will run a battery test for free.

  • Scotty, wrap the battery up like an christmas gift! You know that silver foil.experienced better ,easier starting!

    Battery longs laster?

  • Question, I have a new battery in my garage that was used for literally 10 mins. Its been sitting there for about 7 years. I just tested it with my volt meter and got 7v and change. What should I do? Should charge every now and then, if so, how often? Or should just buy one of those trickle chargers and hook it up and forget about it....actually that sounds costly from a energy saving standpoint. I didn't know they go bad like yogurt, I just thought i would charge it if/when I needed it.

  • There's terminal spray?! I've been freaking applying it by hand this whole time! Good call around 2:35 I wasn't aware that a poor battery could effect everything else.

  • @stelthmunky ON a modern car, EVERYTHING is computer controlled. Change the base voltage too low, and all hell can break loose in the vehicle. Scotty Kilmer

  • Mr. Kilmer, is there anything that needs to be done before touching the battery to not get electrocuted? Or is it safe to just open the battery and ok to touch the metal areas? Great video again!

  • It's only twelve volts, you could stick your tongue on them and have no problems. Just NEVER touch metal to metal with rings on your hands, as that will short the power out and melt your finger. Scotty Kilmer

  • @Shermanator8717 What scotty said. 12 volts (volts are "pressure") is too low to conduct through tissue, but the amps fraom a car battery are very high, so with a good conductior (metals), there is a tremendous amount of electricity flowing. You can actually weld with a car battery (not good for them, thought)

  • this must be the american cousin of the guy who does the cilit bang tv adverts

  • thanks

  • i got a new battery for my 88 4x4 s10 blazer and somehow it got out of charge is this cause of the alternator taking the power of it without using it ?

  • It probably is a bad alternator. Places like auto zone check them free in their parking lots, so you might just take advantage of that and get the alternator checked out. They do it on the car, just drive over to one. Scotty Kilmer

  • in some cars like my moms jeep. if the battery is low the car will have to be revved over 12,00 rpm to keep it running. making it seem like a bad alternator. check your battery before getting a new alternator.

  • Another great video Scotty, thank you! It seems like I re-watch your videos often; good stuff. I was curious though: you don't end the latest ones with your old trademark closing line "...this is Scotty Kilmer helping you crank it up!" - is this just a coincidence? Don't let the haters get to ya if that's the case, you do a wonderful job that most all of us appreciate! THANKS!

  • Crank it up are TV clips, while the others are made for internet clips. Scotty Kilmer

  • love ur videos thanks for de edvice llok forword 2 see all of ur videos !!!!!!!!!!

  • so funny watching you on camera,,,to tell you I haven't check my battery since I bought it 2 yrs.ago off a used car dealership...its a 1990 acura integra...i have minor problems but the thing just keep on going...

  • Thanks scotty for sharing your knowledge with us. I personally greatly appreciate it.

  • I was hoping to see a cameo of the Browning, Scotty. Thanks for the useful info.

  • you can't add water to maintenance free batteries right?

  • That's right. It's one of many reasons I don't like them. The conventional ones last FAR longer than the "maintenance free" if you take care of them. Scotty Kilmer

  • as always great video Scotty and 5 *****, i noticed you have a Harley? if so, some motor bike videos would be great for some upcoming videos, maybe some motorcycle maintenance videos? i don't own a motor bike, but i was just thinking of some future video ideas for you,

  • Yep, one day I'll get around to that. Hey, an old friend of mine was from London Ontario, Dave Lawlor is his name. He lives near Barrie now.
