I'm playing this for my college audition 2 days from now.....Seeing this, I realize that I'm going to fast and trying to rush it. I'm almost attempting to chunk the entire movement.....I need to loosen up and relax. A little rubato and variation won't kill me. Thank you, Barenboim.
@MrAdriandipsf Maybe when I'm older I'll feel differently about the piece. I'm sure Barenboim has been playing this for many years and has a lot of more life experience than I do.
@Mintcubes but it isn't also a piece you have to exercise for months; i suppose a quite good 16- or 17-yo piano student could play it aswell, perhaps not exactly as good as barenboim, but without too much mistakes
@6MusicForever Oh, and I have to agree with MisterYoupinet. It takes quite a long time to master this masterpiece. This is not just an ordinary piece.
@lePistolero Do you mean the part at 3:36 were he leaves the grave part out? Some scores have a repeat sign at the start of the allegro part and some don't, which means that you go all the way back to the start. Freddy Kempf did this, you can easily tell because of the length of the videos, this one being 9 and a half minutes and Freddy's being 10 and a half.
it's so tough to keep the allegro molto e con brio part soft...yet barenboim does it so masterfully and still keeps the passage so well-articulated. perfect.
He looks a bit stiff-handed, but what an amazing performance!!!! I thought the opening was a bit too soft and lacked gravity, but who am I to criticize?
I like that pedal at 2:27. Barenboim often uses pedal in a personal way.

yes! Some notes not in time! So Baremboim is not the beast! ;)
ygviDJUBH 1 month ago
@ygviDJUBH that is because its his own interpretation, his own style, so is Baremboim playing it, and that is what makes him a beast

I'd recommend everyone watch Freddy Kempf's interpretation; he pours emotion into that piece as if Beethoven's soul is perpetuated into his hands.
