  • can i put a disk of ubuntu in my mac and install it on virtual box

  • @MiStASniPeR There is a Mac-Intel version available for VirtualBox, so I would image you could do so. Remember to install VirtualBox first, then download an Ubuntu image from their site....

  • Great great job. Actually was my first approach to virtual box. But I have a question. What happen if computer on main "parttion" (i.e. windows) hangs or even virtual box app got a virus ? do you lost linux and all work developed on it ? can you boot linux or any OS different than windows from startup ? I worry about down time. Again GREAT JOB and great tool. it has to be Sun.

  • Hi, thank you for the comments. If you lose your host OS (i.e. Windows), then, yes, the Linux install will be lost. However, if you have it on another hard drive and re-install Windows, you should be able to get you virtual installation back.

So, at least backup your VirtualBox settings; there not very big, just XML files. If the app becomes corrupt, again, you should be able to re-install.

Boot another OS from the machine start up? Yes; Linux and other Windows versions.

  • Great great job. Actually was my first approach to virtual Box. Great tool. It has to be Sun. I have a couple of questions. 1) If computer got a virus, even virtual box. do you lost linux ?

  • Wow, this was very useful....great stuff :)

just starting to play with this stuff...i have to use this at work...do you have any video how to bridge cards and create samba shares to be visible in the network? :)

  • what about all of the special effects of ubuntu?

  • Thank you for posting. If you're referring Ubuntu's effects in Virtualbox, then I don't believe it's possible yet.

  • i found out how to do it i installed the guest additions and then it worked got a little slow but once it ran for a while it finally sped up.

  • and i have full screen like im actually running the OS

  • How did you make it full screen and enable the visual effects? :D

  • Before i installed the guest additions, it sayed it was not able to enable the effects. So then i installed the guest additions and restarted. Then i tryed to enable them again and somehow the worked. Even the extra effects option worked. Thats how i got mine to work.

  • thanks man, it helped me a lot

  • thanks!! =) it works perfect!!

  • This was really helpful.

  • I do mount the cdrom image to VirtualBoxAddons and select it via Device menu but the cdrom image doesn't get changed to it. It still shows the same Ubuntu cdrom image.

Due to this I cannot get the VBOXaddons in the Places menu of Ubuntu. Instead i get the same ubuntu image???

    Such a weird problem!!

Has anybody found this problem before?

  • this helped me alot man! i will definatly blog this! 5 stars and make sure to check out your post on my blog! t3chh3lp(dot)com
