i met MJ while i on holidays in France. I was on the beach sunbaking while my boy and girl were building sandcastles.. i could sense a shadow and opening my eyes there was MJ.. and i said " Hey Michael get out of my son"... this version i listen to alot.. love it.
wow this song has been a very polemic one.... but let me say something about it. I think that this is the best version of the song, michael jackson made it for chris to sing it right. And then david cook use it to show his voice. But I think that chris has more style and attitud, it sound more honest and relaxed than david, still david cook did do a good job with the song.... I think that music y for be performed, and so they did it.
well.. it's quite simply really. Chris Cornell interpreted MJ's song, and made a new version, and David Cook interpreted Chris' version and made a new one. The great thing about interpretations is that they're all different, which allows people like us to choose our favoruite and the artists to keep their individuality ^_^ I love them both, the same yet different!
I am sooooo sick of all the whining about this song! Like common!Cornell got the credit when David Cook was introduced-they said 'Chris Cornell's version of Billy Jean' so quit bitching! Second, I never would have even known about this version of Billy Jean if it wasn't for David Cook so they should thank him! Third, maybe the arrangement was very close but it WAS David that decided just how to cut and paste it so that it would fit perfectly AND he sung it WAY better than Cornell EVER could! :P
That is some pimp shit. I didn't know this was a Cornell arrangement, I thought David Cook was a genius. Now I know he just has good taste, and Chris Cornell is a genius.
Cornell IS a genius, and like a genius, he inspired Cook to sing a great song as well. You're right, Cook has great taste. He also used the band "LIVE" and their version of Johnny Cash's "I Walk the LIne." Doesn't make Cook any less of a great vocalist though.
If MJ isn't complaining about people 'stealing' his song, I don't think anyone else should either. This song doesn't belong to Chris OR David and can't claim ANY version of it that they choose to sing as their own.
Why would you be angry with Chris when David Cook stole two different artist songs. I think if you are going to be an artist and going to use another artist work give them props and not make it seem like you did that on your own. How would you like it if you did something and someone stole if from you and got all the credit. I think you would be upset as well. Chris made Billy Jean original and David stole it.
what are you talking about? no seriously, i'm actually confused what you're saying... it seems like a bunch of random rants about different things that you stringed together... i'm very confused..
I cant believe people would compare David Cook's experience compared to Cornell's. But lets all admit....It is Cook's version that has everyone talking..You go David..You got my vote..
Who the hell cares if Cook ripped off Chris? There are a million vocalist out there with great voices like Cook and maybe Cook has better range than Chris with a better vibrato. Who cares I ask? Just look at their faces when they perform. Listen to the soul in Chris' voice. Chris is a rock icon, and Cook is an insipid american idol canadate. Even if Cook won the whole damn thing...he will never achieve Chris' status! That's a fact.
You're an idiot, not only did Ryan Seacrest say that it was Chris Cornell's arrangement of the song BUT Chris Cornell himself called the show to say how much he loved David Cooks interpretation of the song!!!
AND if you all remember Michael Jackson sang this FIRST why isn't anyone accusing Chris Cornell of ripping him off???
Besides American Idol is NOT a song arranging competition ALL the people pn the show are singing songs that were originally done by other artists!!!

crook that david cook i hate an thief, he should not have taken credit for that version, why did'nt he give michael, and chris credit maybe beacuse they both did a better job than he, crook
David Cook did a great job and now millions of Americans know about this incredible version of this song. Seacrest gave credit to Chris Cornell. This may have been the best thing to ever happen to Chris Cornell's career. Watch the CD sales skyrocket!
I really doubt that in Chris Cornell's 20 year, Grammy Winning career, that David Cook's rendition is the best thing that happened to his career. Having said that, Chris Cornell may become much more popular with the younger generation of people who don't know who he is (which is a shame). David Cook definitely did this version justice tonight, Cornell should be proud.
why is it not "steal" if he had sung the original, but a "steal" when he sang the chris cornell version? It was acknowledged that it was chris cornell's version, so what is the problem?
Sound better? What about how the song "feels"? People walk in here with great voices everyday. But rarely do we see cats with Chris Cornell's authentic soul. I think Cooks inept attempt of covering Chris' Billy Jean was perfect for the place it was performed. Afterall, it's only a cover of a cover!

are you actually comparing some craphack like Dave Cook to the INCOMPRABLE Chris Cornell.
The gulf of singing talent that divides these two men is the same gulf that separates Kanye West from Ray Charles.
I doubt dave could make a grilled cheese sandwich better then Chris, much less sing a song better (any song)
You my friend could very well be what audiologists would call "tone deaf"
or what neurologists call "mentally retarded"
Either way somethings wrong!!!!

If you listen carefully to the Idol clip, Seacrest gives Cornell credit when David Cook is introduced.
