Good, I like that you share this video, I wish success always This was filmed with my phone camera that couldn't seem to keep up with speed of the blades
Nice Video That You Share , So Very Nice Thanks You The blades are actually straight and spinning reall fast. The result is some kind of optical illusion.
@gymkhanadog It's not just the cheap ones, though they do it worse. It happens on all CMOS imaging chips. Not on CCD chips though. It has to do with how the images are captured.
Oh that's really bizzare! Those blades look like they are bending as they rotate due to the camera shutter speed. Yep, I would balance them suckers. Add mass to the BASE of the blades that are lightest (Near the hub - NOT THE TIPS!!). Good luck!!!
I have the same illusion, I think it is because of the frames per second of the video almost coincides with the spinning of the blades so it appears they are spinning slow but in actuallity they are going about 300+ rpm
@bonza85 instead of wind turbine you should call it wind turbulence. LOL get it? wind turbulence, because of the turbines chaotic movement lol. You can tell that joke when you show this to friends i don't mind.
seriously. NOT A WIND TURBINE!! its a pinwheel

WORLD RECORD: BIGGEST WIND TURBINE
Visit: windturbinecarriedbywheels.weebly.com
ZERO-NOISE from gears and generators since they're sealed underground.
SAVES THE BIRDS AND BATS since the turbines are slow-moving.
DOES NOT NEED TO OCCUPY A WIDER LANDSCAPE since the turbine can be very tall.
MAY BE LOWER-COST since it can use parts of junked trucks and others.
ELUDES HURRICANE FORCE since the blades automatically close.
HELPS THE WIND ENERGY COMPANIES since it is FREE FOR ALL.

It's not an illusion and it's not called stroboscopic. It's caused by Apple cheaping out on the camera on it's stupidly expensive iphone.
That camera is only good for taking still photos of still objects.
DrifterToo 2 months ago
The term used for this illusion on the rotor blades is called stroboscopic. Search for some videos using that word. Aircraft propellers look weirder.
TheRantingCabbie 2 months ago
This "optical illusion" is a effect of rolling shutter in your camera. Its common see in fast moving object.

im looking at a wind turbine "through a motha fuckin fish eye lense!"
222thepunisher 2 months ago
That's called "rolling shutter". Most cheap camera sensors use it these days unfortunately.

dude what did you do to your camera?

I wonder what blades that are actually that shape would look like. Also if they would function.

@anorak2
It's CMOS, not CCD. CCD does store image information prior readout.

The windmill has revealed limitations in the performance of CCD cameras.
AnotherGlenn 1 year ago
@AnotherGlenn
It's not even a CCD camera. It's called CMOS; it does not store image information like CCD does, hence the geometric distortion.

Odd design. It's good to see people trying different things.
Thx for the up.

Balance? That thing would rip to shreds in a steady breeze.
PukkPukk 2 years ago
Wrong. Obviously we took it straight back down when we saw it doing that. THEN, we balanced it.

Fortunately that problem was mostly fixed thanks to some well placed balancing mass (obviously not featured at the time of this video).
