If you add proprioceptors to the legs (position feedback as well as touch and torque) and integrate that into a "cerebellum", giving it a movement brain seperate from the goal brain, you could make it move over any terrain and behave like a real "droid".

Yes this is very doable. Many things can be added to the electronics on the robot.
