hey i have to instrumentate this piece for a wind quartet consisting of two flutees, one clarinet and one basoon... im quite new to this so anyone got any iddeas? :) Churrr bro
I am certainly no expert when it comes to this kind of European music but Debussy is with out doubt my personal favorite. He had a lyrical sense that existed on a higher plane. He never pandered to emotions.I would like to say his works were ahead of their time but in a certain sense I think they were well ahead of ours as well.I hear echos of Debussy in the great jazz practitioners of our day like Miles Davis and Bill Evans:artists who in their own right have moved music into new horizons.
@bluesborn I'm so happy I'm not alone in this thought. I've always considered in my head that Davis/Evans works were the blues version of Debussy's Impressionist styling. Their music is deep in thought, and regardless of the genre create a similar feeling. To me, "Blue in Green" always stood out similarly to this piece. I don't know exactly why, but they are parallel to me. They are different entirely yet share similar periods of inner beauty and sentimentality that we all share in common
@Dunderhead36 -Excellent comments."Blue in green" is a beautiful composition and a very good example I think of how Debussy has influenced 20th century musicians. In fact I recently read that his works have inspired virtually every major composer of the 20th century in both the jazz and classical fields.A partial list includes Bartok,Stravinsky,Ravel,Gershwin,Ellington (another personal favorite of mine) Evans,Monk,Davis,Reich and Glass. An amazing man.
@bluesborn Prescient. I had a music history teacher in college--also a prominent conductor for the Ventura county, CA symphony--say that there were three truly great innovators in classical music that, rather than being derivative, initiated trends and influences, pioneer types if you will: One was Debussy, another was Bach, and another was-- I want to say Mozart, but I forget.
I love the remake by Larry Clinton, Glenn Miller and Artie Shaw, and this is a really really beautiful, inspiring tune with a different feel. Very beautiful.
It just aggravates me that my friend has started to brag that she can play Debussy's hard songs, when she couldn't even learn a simple duet with me last year... =="
And I've been playing longer than her. She's just not.. xD
one day i bought this magnificent piece of art cd for only 2$..no one was buying them so there was a sale..you get it? something like that for only 2$..what is happening to the world...
The music of Claude Debussy is wonderful. Thank you for let me share this classical music. I remember the long assays of my sisters on the piano and many years ago.
sounds cool! and by the way, i saw something really good. listen to both parts of this this guy, this music is flawless. search for "freakollo" in the search tab.
Anyone else feel like they're dreaming when they listen to this song? I guess that's why it's called reverie, but I still find it stunning that it has that effect...
Love it. Every single note is just magic for me. I learnd 14 of Debussy tracks from Tomitas first album and I discovered the original versions few weeks ago. They are absolutely brilliant... My english sucks, I know ;)

This is amazingly beautiful - intricate, delicate, powerful stuff. Debussy was the original jazz pianist - Bill Evans was great and all, but Debussy practically invented those chord progressions, and long before jazz came around too.
@LikeMyFeet I so agree with you, but please, let's be ALL okay to stop talking about justin bieber in every awesome artist youtubes pages. He don't deserv it, and it's not the same kind of music.
@yusefesuy You can find one in free-scores (dot) com. First look for Debussy under composers and on the last page of his scores you should find Reverie for piano. Great site to get any sheet music from really.
This song reminds me of my childhood...how innocent and bright the world seemed to be. But now I'm older and everything is different. And through it all, I want to keep trying to rediscover my childhood, even though I know that I never will.
Anyone know where I can get this score, I've searched everywhere and have not found it. If someone could tell me or if someone is interested and you switch to another score inform me, I have a lot of great music. Thanks
Wow, I never noticed how good it sounds when performed at a faster tempo. I usually play it much slower, but I'm trying that out the next time I get behind my piano. Excellently performed. You can sense the emotion put into it. =)
Along with Michelangeli, the best interpreter of Debussy I have ever heard. Just learning to play this piece and I'm taking my cues from Thiollier on this one :)
