This is so nice. Nothing to prove just experience the range and timbre of Dianne's voice. And the patient and spot on accompaniment. They can all rock it with the best , but this shows real talent and control.
Diane is "hands down" one of the top jazz vocalists ever. She's got TOTAL CONTROL of every note in her range, and uses her human voice like a physical instrument, to sing improvised phrases and intervals, that many instrumentalists are unable to duplicate. Can I praise her more. And how bout Roy demonstrating beautifully the "less is more concept" - the space between the notes is as important as the notes themselves.
I met Sarah, her husband, and Ray Brown at the Hollywood Bowl Season, after Season. Nice try and respected, however, you are really dragging the tempo out to the point of boredom. Pick-up the pace and make your feeling's believable.
@bransonbelle HI. Don't forget the pathos of live performance rendition. Anyway, even in classical music, mostly in baroque singing, there is a "borderline" where you don't feel any tempo at all. Just music. (Not easy to explain). It's like when you feel to be one with your lover, instead of two....I'm singer, and I like to do the same, but only when I feel that the audience and my group are with me, otherwise I could "drag the tempo out the point of boredom". Sorry for my english...By.
To listen to these 2 masterful artist live in 10 minutes of shear perfection(I didn't realize the time of the video!). As they let go of any ego they might have,to give of themselves to the music is just AMAZING!!
Many who are merely singers are called "artists." The word in entertainment is as over used as "awsome." Dianne Reeves is the genuine article - for both words. They should almost be hers alone. Hargrove also is sheer perfection. He does a stunning solo turn without overshadowing Reeves. This set is absolutely perfect!
Roy's got that Clifford Brown thing swinging so smooth. You rock dude! Dianne Reeve the ultimate nuance. Magnificent colors, the both of you. The band is amazingly talented.
Terrence Blanchard once said that every performance with Dianne is like a musical caper, because you never know where she will take the song. Love when she catches Roy off-guard at 8:20, and then waits a beat for him to jump in. Beautiful ad-lib.
Dianne Reeves proving why she is not only one of the greatest contemporary Jazz vocalists....but one who's popularity transends musical genre [she has also recorded with the likes of Q-Tip!!]
Dianne Reeves is even better live....vocally she got mad-skills! Props also to Roy Hargrove. But if you wanna hear Dianne Reeves do an even better version....purchase the "A Little Moonlight" Album....its the definitive version. The first two minutes are just her sweet vocals and the trumpet.

Roy Hargrove has this awesome way of making the Flugalhorn sound like golden wind, smooth, soft, and just plain sweet..
He is my Trumpet mentor when it comes down to a truly great sound.
