artists like bon iver & benny singshave been able to pull off awesome things with the 80's sound, it worked for them in their genre. if dream theater tried this sound again i swear to god it'd be their best idea in 20 years.
I hate that they had become more of the metal genre. Listen to this, Surrounded, Solitary shell etc. That make you hope that they will turn back someday..
No matter what...its just good to know that DT has a favorable relationship with Charlie still today. In my mind, he is much a part of DT as any of the other members past and present.
It's nice to read that so many people like charlie dominici and his singing on the first album. Same to me. I like the first album the most because it's so majestic. Instruments fit together, and fits with the vocals like no other album I know. Charlie's best performance. He's king.
I've never been a big fan of newer Dream Theater, i love Petrucci and Portnoy as artists and i love listening to their solo's and shit, but Labries voice irritates me. Dominici could have brought the band soooo much further than it is now. Dream Theater has become self destructive, especially after making the stupid move of not letting Portnoy back in. drums are the backbone of any band, and he was a very strong backbone.
@psykospike well, he also wrote a lot of stuff and was in my opinion having a negative influence on the sound of the band. word is that he was like "lets make a metallica styled song, lets make a rush styled song" and pushing them into more metal territories, especially with his "harsh" vocals in songs like nightmare to remember or constant motion. I'm interested to hear what they're going to release next.
I don't really care who wants to argue with me. I don't listen to Dream Theater(and I love Dream Theater without James Labrie; Liquid Tension Experiment, Suspended Animation) because of James Labrie's singing. If they had kept this Dominici guy, I would have listened to Dream Theater all these years. James Labrie would have made a good opera singer.
I love this song. THere is no other DT like this song. It's awesome how they absorbed the 80's so much, but only for one song hahaha. Transformers theme song sounds like the chorus :D
@KornSOAD haha yea. I love this album because it combines the dream theater sound with that of 80s music, which is something else I happen to love. so good, shame not as many other people appreciate this album I think its great. one of their best imo
I like the voice of Charlie Dominici, althought it's not wide and high as the LaBrie one.
In my point of view it's not the extension of a voice that makes a good singer, but also the
interpretation and the feelings that it transmits. In this sense, Dominici is better than LaBrie.
And I would like to remember that the defection of Kevin Moore is sensibly clear and, for me, the band has lost a part of their magic and special atmosphere in music.
for some reason charlie reminds me of the guy from rush a little bit... that just me? anyway Labrie kicks his ass no matter how good he is. Best band ever, any1 who agrees should try coheed and cambri although they arent metal by any means
(he) ment dominici in my sentence "anyway Labrie kicks ass no matter how good he is"... in case anybody got confused. i have OCD so i had to clear that up
Normally all of dream theater's earlier song would have been far too long for social approval, but how they structured and delivered the music not only made it acceptable, but wanted by listeners. Go Dream Theater!
It took me a couple times to appreciate it, but that's a great song although DT needed a more powerful voice for images and words and the following albums
That silence of 3 minutes in status seeker is a trouble from the owner....i have the cd and i have it in mp3 and that silence does not appear....

I trust it wasn't on the album? :P

Nope, it was not. :P
Though there is a marillion album where all the 11 songs have 1 minute silence on the end, totally pointless. :P
SigDrums 2 years ago
Woooow...trying to get the album length up, I guess? They (Marillion) could have done another 1 or 2 songs with that extra time. Shame. :P

ToughAndRotten 4 years ago
his voice on this album is awesome it just started to not fit in the images and words era.
edthehead83 3 years ago
Not really, he only came out of the band becasue of "personal and creative differences".

trust me. also the band all thought that his voice didnt fit the sound they wanted.

i think he sounds pretty decent.
