The public sector strikes were carried out in order to present the message of discontent. Thus the government need to hear this and respond as their job is to act on behalf of the mass public, not them selves. So for the conservatives to say " Nothing will change" completely contradicts their job role and shows anyone with commen sense that our country is being run by people who dont give a shit about us. @MUDSHARK111 I will do my best to answer your question. Labour inherited the world's 4th largest economy that was not in deficit but was well and truly in surplus. There had been a lot of pain in the Thatcher years to turn the economy and the UK around. But when Margaret Thatcher came into power there were 3 million unemployed and on every European league table the UK was near the bottom - that's why Britain was commonly referred to as the 'sick man of Europe'.

Now what truly angers me, because it is people's lives and job - is labour had this inheritance, golden inheritance, it would be fair to call it - and labour did what labour always does - spend recklessly and incompetently. They are worse casino gamblers than the banks. They pumped up the public sector massively and to unsustainable levels - and they knew it.

@MUDSHARK111 so that when recession did hit, the UK was in terrible financial state. And we were in a position where there was a very real possibility we would need to go to the IMF. Now in come the 'nasty party' ie the tories, and they have to do what they always have to do when labour has been in power - and clean up the mess. That's why they get called the nasty party. But it's actually labour. They are the ones playing with peoples lives by spending money even when we haven't got it.

Respond to this video... Last response : Labour seem 'nice' because they spend. The tories 'nasty' because they cut - but the fact is they have to and forced to by the irresponsibility and financial incompetence of labour. I am just so surprised and dismayed that people don't see this. Labour have done it enough times to the country, it's time we learned. They are NOT the friend of the working man (or woman). @jameswb333333 thank you for the response and although i could point out the terrible flaws of thatcher and hold her more than jut partly responsible for our fragile service economy and the birth of the feckless whos only ambition is to go from cradle to grave having never had a job or done a days work.but that is a digression .my question is what the Tories would have done better, that would have allowed us to avoid the global recession .

Having turned the economy around and got it into surplus - a strong and healthy position, the tories would not have then gone on a spending spree and maxed the credit cards. So the country having been through the pain (of the Thatcher years) would have been in a financially strong position to weather the global banking crisis when it came. Further, the Tories would not have stripped away the regulatory powers of ....

@MUDSHARK111 ... the Bank of England by creating a ridiculous (and toothless) Financial Services Authority - that watched the credit explosion and did nothing about it. And having created a surplus, they would have had money to spend that would genuinely stimulate the economy (not non-job creation in the Public Sector) We do need a healthy Public Sector but not the bloated creation Labour turns it into. Had we not had 13 years of Labours profligacy and incompetence, where we would be now ?

I believe that people have talent and that talent should have the opportunity regardless of background. The playing field will never be level, but I really believe in what they are doing in schools to try to give kids from the backstreets more of the opportunities and quality of education that kids from wealthy backgrounds would get. What are your thoughts ?

@wowmasterAJ Quite simply they do have a democratic mandate, this is how our democracy works. More people voted for the tories than any other single party. They also do represent hard working people more than any other party. They believe that regardless of background if you are prepared to work hard you can get on and will do their best to support people that want to make something of their lives - unlike Labour making victims out of everyone and making the UK a dependency culture.
