Well the show kinda differs from the actual book. I don't really see why, but things like Dan's sexuality and Chuck being with a guy were changed. The premise of biting rumors and dirty secrets are one and the same though. Personally I like both the book and show. If it were a movie instead of a series, it might be more similar to the novel.
