  • If y'all didn't catch it, the moment where the camera zooms in on Ned and battle sounds ring is kind of a spoiler towards next seasons.

  • @FreshPofBellaireTX He was reflecting on the rebellion, or even war in general.

  • @Demoon555666 Possibly just PTSD.

  • @Aegrim That's pretty much what it is. Especially with the nightmares at The Tower of Joy.

  • The Ariya girl is so cute! if i had a daughter in my life time i hope turn like her lol

  • I hope he's not dead !

  • One of the best scenes in the entire series so far!

  • this must be LoTR extended edition scene... it's good to see background from boromir

  • Syrio Forel is one of the most interesting characters in the book/miniseries.

  • I've always wondered what exactly Ned was thinking of during the final moments of this scene.

Was he having a flashback to his rebellion against the Mad King? Was it the fight against the Iron Islands? Was it something else?

It's the only problem I have with both the series and the books they were based on. Many things are implied, but rarely shown.

  • He should NOT HAVE DIED. EFFING HELL GEORGE MARTIN. THIS GUY SHOULD HAVE BEEN KEPT ALIVE.

  • One does not simply learn the water dance

  • Did anyone else notice that in the books, Syrio is bald? Then again in the books Arya is described as having a "Horse face", and that clearly isn't the case either :)

  • @420Vagabond1 A character is more than his physical looks. The best writers don't describe their characters at all; instead they let the characters' words and actions define them, and let the reader fill in the rest.

  • The sounds at the end, did the swordplay remind Ned of his war memories, is that what it means?

  • @thestranger4812 Partly that, partly his fear of what Arya may become because she's not the young lady he wants her to be.

  • @thestranger4812 I assume it was a foreshadow. By this point in the series, Ned is already aware that Arryn may have been murdered, and the Lannisters may be responsible for Bran. In the books he has already hinted to Caetyln to prepare for war just in case. I surmise the clash of weapons is part memory, but partly representative of his prescience of imminent war.

  • The Red God has his due, sweet girl, and only death may pay for life.

  • Only dance I want to teach ;)

  • This is when I really started to like the series ( Haven't read the book yet at the time).

I really wanted to see much more of this Syrio guy. It's just too awesome to see Arya's character develop as she becomes more skilled with a sword.

  • Bald -> (screenwriters) -> Afro.

  • first watched the serie and then read the book. always read him with this voice

  • @alberto9911 Martin is extremely talented with Dialogue. Much of his written dialogue in the books was transferred over to the screen word by word, and Syrio is no exception.

  • The First sword of Braavos does not run

  • @Shepard1Commander

Yes, true. But does the FORMER First sword of Braavos run??? "Listening is not hearing, dead girl." My point exactly. Syrio lives!

  • I think that is one of the 5 or 6 really good scenes from entire series... rest, meh

  • Here's to hoping Syrio actually made it.

  • "Your skills are inferior!"

  • "Boy, girl, you are a sword!"

  • By far my favorite character of any movie or film, Syrio Forel, come back to us =D

  • @TheKturner05 of any book as well

  • YOU! Are a sword.

  • Just so.

  • I haven't finished reading the books, but she becomes pretty bad ass! Though I wish she had a less sad path...all her life is full of murder....

The starks shall have their revenge! I SWEAR IT UPON THE OLD GODS!

  • Everyone needs a Syrio in their life.

  • His reminds me of the cat in shrek and every kahjiit in skyrim :P

  • FEAR CUTS DEEPER THAN SWORDS

  • The most epic three minutes of television ever!

  • I want him to teach me !

  • Who else knows he's alive?

  • All men are made of water...do you know this?...if you pierce 'em!...the water leaks out....and they DIE...

  • She is my favorite character and I havent even read the books yet, but I am thinking I will come to like her even more, once I have :-)

  • 3:15

    Fucking Vietnam Flashback Status.

  • I love how they added Ned into that scene. And with the metal swords in the background was perfect.

  • @danceaddict143 yea agree so hard man. so powerful

  • Syrio -- EZIO

  • @MorbidAngelOfSorrow cant wait to see that and the red wedding

  • @kalibak2010

Yeah, the wedding was the most shocking part in whole series.

  • @MorbidAngelOfSorrow DUDE, YOU FUCKING SPOILER!

  • @MorbidAngelOfSorrow you spoiling dick :D

  • @ambinek

Hahahahahahaha :D never expected that comment will make it to the top rated xD

  • @MorbidAngelOfSorrow cool spoiler

  • @tgodd Only if you read the books xD other then that you know nothing

  • this is awesome - my Spanish teacher looks a lot like this

  • I liked how he automatically looked back and disapproved, knowing she was going to grip the sword with both hands :)

  • @Warmaker01 yeah so many little details like that :) it's perfect. i like how at the end, you hear all the steel clashing... so ominous

  • Comment removed

  • Strange but Syrio Forel reminds me of Puss in boots of Shrek...

  • @bunrraa Great, now I'm imagining Antonio Banderas as Syrio...

  • @ShadowSonic2 Hah ! if jaime lannister as charming prince was not enough XD !! who's shrek ? Hodor !?!

  • @bunrraa I was thinking more along the lines of Inigo Montoya from The Princess Bride. :)

  • Is it just me, or is the girl playing "horseface" Arya a bit too pretty for her role...

  • @nrvrine427 nope. the girl was perfectly casted and she is acting perfectly. Besides, Arya is not really ugly. She just looks like her father, who is nothing special, but not ugly either. Besides she is often compared to Lyanna Stark, who was very beautiful woman

  • @dejan77 Yeah ok but for the record I never said her acting was bad, don't even know why you brought that up.

  • @nrvrine427 Think of it this way: Arya is supposed to be plain-looking because Eddard is described as plain looking. In this show, Eddard is Sean Bean who is very much NOT plain, so it makes sense Arya is also better looking to keep up with the "She's like her father" thing. ;)

  • Arya is my favorite besides Daenerys!!!!!!

    Sensa sucks..

  • The ending of the scene (Ned getting serious) would be perfect for a flashback like Tower of Joy. To bad they left it out. The whole season I waited for that scene, too bad they left it out.

  • @dejan77 I KNOW!!! that's what I was thinking omg!!! it's the only thing that really displeased me in this show. I wanted to see how 7 faced against 3 or the battle at the trident

  • @dejan77 It's understandable why: They'd have to have all the Kingsguard verbally name themselves so we'd know who they were and we'd get to see Lyanna's last moments. It would've been too clear what killed her in a TV medium whereas the book kept it vague enough.

  • In the series they skipped the part where he tells Arya that it's good she's left-handed because it would confuse her opponent but I like how they kept this detail having her hold the sword in her left hand :o)

  • syrio is probably the best characater ever made!

  • I like his accent. ^^

That guy reminds me somehow of that spain fencer dude ( Inigo Montoya ) in the movie "The Princess Bride". ^^

  • Oh my God! Eddard Starks face! What a performance that was it literally left me breathless and gives the whole scene this ominous vibe. So cool.

  • Best dance teacher ever.

  • I love that little 'ah..!' when he throws the sword to her the second time and she catches it.

And any man that can hold four fully-armed and armoured knights with what is effectively a stick - even if not for very long - most definitely ranks as a bad-ass on par with Kratos from God of War or Ujio from Last Samurai. Rock. On. My. Son.

  • AHHHH Nooo my cursor slipped to the dislike button, forgive me, Syrio!

  • What do we say to the God of Death? :

    watch?v=PPV6MUDH_Eg

  • This is a beautiful scene. Wonderfully done.

  • Syrio died Cuz Ser Merryl survived

  • @Mullsjo123 pffff, Syrio kicked him in the balls and walked away laughing at him. He wouldn't run, but he would do that!

  • @Mullsjo123 Ser Meryn Trant is a toadie who beats girls. He wouldn't hesitate to lie to cover the fact that he was defeated by an outnumbered and poorly armed foreigner.

  • His final lesson to Arya--"the true seeing"--makes me think Martin is telling us that he is still alive.

  • Way too little screentime for such a badass character.

  • @SulfurMonkey - Aye! Too true, though, way too little booktime as well.

  • @SulfurMonkey He has just as little time in the books. He's a huge part of Arya's life but, at least up to book 5, you'll never hear from him again.

  • @SulfurMonkey Just so.

  • @SulfurMonkey It is known.

  • Isn't Syrio supposed to be bald?

  • "The first sword of Braavos does not run.." Is it a bit over the top to have April 15 already marked on my calendar?

  • Syrio Forel. The Seven Kingdom's Bruce Lee.

  • Doesn't he look like Robert Downey Jr.?

  • I just read this part of the book last night. They adapted it VERY well. Great chapter and scene. What I've seen of the show and what I've read so far are very similar. Not like what was done to Sword of Truth.

  • Hold me closer, Water Dancer.

  • LOVE this scene! One of many that came out absolutely perfect!

  • Syrio doesnt care if shes a boy a girl. "You are a sword". This as got to appeal to Arya in a world where gender-roles are so rigid most of the time. Its not like Arya wants to be a boy, she just wants the same opportunity as everybody else to do what interests her.

  • I was truly amazed at just how faithful the show was to the book. I was honestly expecting something weak and watered down, but what we got was something amazing. Eagerly awaiting "A Clash of Kings" (or Game of Thrones Season 2, not sure what they'll call it.).

  • "All men are made of water. If you pierce one, the water comes out... and he dies."

  • Actually given all the other characters who walk around with swords, you would think Syrio would have his metal blade on his belt at all times.

  • @aussiejed1 Says something about him no? He doesn't seem them as a threat.

  • I love the touch of pulling in on Ned's face, as he watches and remembers his own war experience.

  • @aussiejed1 How many wars has he been in so far? Robert's War, the Greyjoy Rebellion, any other ways?

  • @ShadowSonic2 I think Ned would have said: "Enough."

  • Ned knows exactly what he's doing, hiring a Bravosi to teach her. Not for little Ayra the broadsword training of her brothers... she's small, and lithe, and quick. Perfect for the water dance.

  • @aussiejed1 That and a good majority of the swordsmen are right-handed wielders, and Arya is left-handed. That gives her an advantage as well. :)

  • Just........So.

  • how can you not like this scene. funny how even syrio thought she looked like a boy

  • @friendlycakeasaurus Actually, it's not that Syrio mistook Arya for a boy; he doesn't care.

  • only one word to describe Syrio: EPIC!

  • I have to wonder about parenting skills in this show: I mean really, if they raised their kids to be the ideal types of what was expected from nobility back then then how did Lyanna end up being a warrior girl? How did Arya end up the way she is if they raised her to be gentle like Sansa? How did Sam end up some fat gentle guy if his dad was always raising him to be a Knight?

  • @ShadowSonic2

How many hellfire preachers are horrified to find that their children (boys or girls) are nonetheless gay? How many successful businessmen, soldiers, politicians or simple ruthless bastards (fathers OR mothers) find that even though _they_ never had a shred of compassion, their children do?

How many of any of us were _exactly_ what our parents wanted us to be?

  • Stark at end of this episode was suprised that his daughter has his talent as a warrior. He probably also remebered when he faught in the civil war.

  • Hey if anyone likes the great syrio and arya stark check out my video i just made its called game of thrones dancing arrows! Check it out please i need the views!

  • So where can I learn ths water dance? I would pay good money for this. :-)

  • its amazing lol, first i thought this master of the sword was just pissing out his ass,and talking nonesense...but when the time came...he really delivered and ....not gonna spoil >< just saying its a sad scene for me

  • I would pay good money to watch a show that was only Arya Stark learning to use a sword.

  • my two favourite chars from GoT...Ned and Syrio and now? both dead...noooooooooo

  • Where is he from?

  • Comment removed

  • Ned at the end...

"Saigon. Shit. I'm still in Saigon."

  • @Prytanus

    Too funny, my friend. Lol.

  • Syrio's worried glance at Ned makes the whole scene perfect. We see Syrio's inner worry about where this may all lead...and Ned is reminded of his own worries about the same. When you lay the game of thrones...

  • @greyeyed123

I watched this a hundred times, but I do not see Syrio glancing at Ned. Can you please specify the exact time? Thank you.

  • @MrKritik77 Syrio looks at Ned at 3:16.

  • @greyeyed123 No, he's looking at the blade of the sword there.

  • No he's not. He's Syrio Forel. No one walks upon him without him knowing it. He knew Ned was there, and he gave him a look that was very different from those he was giving to Arya. He's telling Ned that this is a dangerous game, that your children may die before this game is over, and if you want me to train the girl I will...but she is still just a little girl, and she may die. Ned understands this look, because HIS look changes off of Syrio's. It's the entire POINT of the SCENE.

  • @greyeyed123 Sorry, but you're wrong. I never said he didn't know Ned was there. Of course he did. That's not the point. He doesn't look at Ned. They don't share a glance. He is looking at the swords at the point in this video you indicated. If you still don't believe me, pause it there and see for yourself. Syrio is looking at the swords.

  • @AutoPsychotic No, he's not. You have to watch the scene in context, realize that Ned hired Syrio for this very purpose, and that Syrio knew that Ned would be coming to see how things were going. Why do you think Ned's countenance goes from pleased and happy, to worried and scared right after Syrio gives him the concerned glance, a concerned glance that is completely the opposite of every other expression Syrio gives to Arya in the entire scene. This is the POINT of the SCENE.

  • @greyeyed123 This could not be a more wrong interpretation of the scene.

  • @mrfridays You have eyes, but you do not see. Remember the next scene with Arya and Syrio? He tells her his words say one thing, but his eyes said another. Syrio sees the situation, even under the pretense of teaching a child a fencing hobby. This isn't going to be a hobby for Arya--it's going to be the difference between life and death. Syrio knows what the Lanisters are like, and knows that Arya's life is in danger at King's Landing.

  • @mrfridays Also, if you notice, his glance is to his right. When he says "very dead" to Arya, his right would be in the opposite direction of Ned. But then directly after Syrio and Arya switch sides, so that as Syrio faces Arya, his right is now to Ned, which means his glance is at Ned. Moreover, he doesn't turn right away to the swords, and when he does turn to his right, the swords move slightly--and his eyes don't move, because he's not looking at the sword, he's looking at NED.

  • @greyeyed123 This is perfectly right.

  • @JCRS666 Thank you.

  • @greyeyed123 You're welcome.

As you said, he's Syrio Forel, he knew the position of the blades. he probably wouldn't look at that direction if Ned wasn't there.

And for all the others: read between the lines, it's time to observe things.

  • @greyeyed123 Wrong.

  • @mrfridays "Wrong". About what? Syrio didn't switch places with Arya? He didn't know about the Lanisters? Ned wasn't standing to his right? Syrio didn't know he was literally training Arya to survive? Ned's expression didn't change right after Syrio looked at him? I'm sure you are right. The scene is only about how amusing it is that a girl is being trained to use a blade, and the expert trainer is so scared of the little girl's wooden blade that he has to look straight at it for some reason.

  • A needle. :D

    aaa-h-h-h-h-h-h-h

  • Which episode was this?

  • Jaqen H'gar? Maybe?

  • @hameed I say yes.

  • @hameed Just so.

    It is known.

  • Beautiful scene. I love how when Ned arrives, while he watches them "dance", it brings up his memories of war.

  • What kind of accent does he have? My friends and I disagree...

  • @andStack greek. The actor is so I doubt he made up a new accent.

  • Comment removed

  • I used to think that the best child actors could be was "tolerable".

Fortunately, this series seems to have found all the good ones in the world and put them all in one place.

  • Bellissima e Fantastica Scena!!!!!!!!

  • The amazing thing is that one person - George RR Martin wrote so much of this dialog. In the books, as in the film, each character has his or her own voice and he makes them all completely believable. So many great characters. So many great lines.

  • His accent sounds russian.

  • @MattChro maybe if you've never heard russian in your whole life

  • Baddest of all Asses! I've been told he survives in the books and comes back to be an epic Badass.

  • 4 dislikes - 4 Lannister guards defeated by a wooden sword....

    Coincidence? :D

  • @eternasapphiremoon81 they have ADSL in king landing?

  • @ColonelZoren ADSL? what do you mean?

  • @eternasapphiremoon81 the 4 Lannister guards cannot vote without a web-connecction so... i was tought the Lannister give ADSL to thier soldier for free XD

  • @ColonelZoren They can always use Varys's 'whisperers' or Pycelle's birds...

  • @eternasapphiremoon81 HAHA very nice veery nice

  • Who read the books? Syrio is dead??!

  • @JDMMA1 It cuts out in the books just as in the show. So nobody really knows.

  • @nyo117 although I remember reading an obscure comment from when Arya meets that other Braavosi, the one who gives her the coin. He mutters something to the effect of "I remember watching the greatest Braavosi swordsman in history, fight his way to out of a castle with a broken stick and a stolen sword......."he could have meant Syrio. Who knows, but that would be fucking awesome!!!!

  • I am Inigo Montoya you kill my fa.... sorry, wrong show!

  • ARYA WILL TAKE A VENGEANCE FOR HER FATHER!:)

  • @NEWeastwick hopefully she will behead him and shit in his neck =D

  • what happens to syrio, Anyone know?

  • @sullenboy1o3o nobody really knows
