Look at the new concentration camps built by FEMA. There they will take everyone that descend from Jews and there are many, people who don't have a clue that they are Jews.
It's written in the Bible, some will go to captivity, some will be killed by sword, here lies the patience of the Saints.
I needed some earbuds to listen to this late at night when my roommate is asleep. Just went out and got BOSE earbuds. They make such a difference in this song. I can actually hear LC thru the whole song now. His voice is like the simple tuba that plays as a counterpoint to the light soprano voices of the women. Sooooooooo BEAUTIFUL!!!!!!
Beautiful! Thanks for posting. I am a big Leonard Cohen fan, but had never heard this before. Nice to see the lyrics too. Thanks for sharing this. Just saw Leonard Cohen in concert in Vancouver on Apr 19th - a phenomenal show.
I love this song. If asked what it means to me, i would say it asks society as a whole, "Are we satisfied with what we have created? No? why do we continue?"
L. Cohen is 73 years old. Even when he started recording, his voice wasn't exactly that of a crooner (although, I love his singing voice and unique phrasing). So, I'm sure that's a good part of why the female vocalists are carrying most of this song's melody. In any case, I think it's downright inspiring that he can still write songs as powerful & beautiful as this one.
Beautiful song, but would have liked to hear a little more Leonard on this one, but as always such wonderful words, He always comes through with something amazing
so positive!!!

I'm not really able to figure out the meaning just yet, but I do love this song.
Btw "Un Canadien errant" (The Lost Canadian) on his 1979 Recent Songs album is based on the same melody.
