  • Nice review. I had this game back then.

  • wow thats cool! good job I really like this

  • Chewbacca had a LASER CROSSBOW back in the 70's.

  • criwb riyak

  • just found a download for it and played the first level.

    pretty good.

I originally had the demo but I couldn't find my way out of the first room, I thought it was a removed switch due to it being a demo and all.

oh well, guess I'm just an idiot.

  • @Patric16

Nevertheless, how hard is it to prepare the material before turning the camera on?

3 years ago or now, its the same thing.

  • i remember playing the demo of this over and over again... great game...

  • LOL! he doesn't know his text by heart! He reads it!

Anybody can make a video these days.

  • @MrChofee he made the vid 3 years ago

  • I loved this game, to bad I cant get it to work on my 7.

  • @rsnboy08 Try Dosbox. It can run any Dos game in Windows and Linux. It supports this one (has been tested and is officially supported). But unless You have fast computer it is 300x200 resolution only from what I have read.

  • @daEmoNicky thanks, i'll try

  • Yay Asian Pop Star s ! I mean Nerds !

  • I'm very thankful RIFT came along, it took all those undergeared, lazy, cry-babies, care-bears and QQ'ers out of WoW and brought them to Telara! RIFT is chock full of people who couldn't play WoW, the lazy types who got kicked from raids, the lazy types who didn't level professions, the clickers, the ones with low gearscore, the man-child types....they're mostly GONE from WoW now!!!

Thank you Trion for releasing this WoW wanna-be game, it should be called "Ex-WoW Failures & Rejects".

  • @Rachael4341 here is a tip next time you spam comments actually make sure that you are on the right game before you leave a comment that has the name of the game you're looking for

  • Either a laser or a crossbow? Good Sir, have you never heard of the awesome bowcaster?

  • Not trying to be rude but, you should really try and stop the WTFs when you have a voice like a kid in kindergarten. It's so annoying when kids curse. It ruined the review for me.

  • Uninspired weapons??? It has a sawblade launcher that ricochet on the wall!s!!!

  • Man, thanks for this video but your voice is so annoying...

  • Is this a custome engine?

  • Nice vest.

  • i was on quake 2 "action".. kthx

  • bro ur review is entertaining haahhahahah i enjoy it when u curse...useem passionately angry HAHAHAHAH yet ur voice is somehow so innocent HAHAHA BUT I CAN TELL U ARE PISSSED HAHAHA

  • the 3d models and textures are beyond their time, they look better than quake, quake 2, half-life, daikatana etc... I think this could've been a quake killer if it had true 3d levels, better level design, and multiplayer support at launch.

  • D'aaaww.... i remember when i was like 5 years old i had a wee go on the first level...i still want to play more but it won't run on the current operation systems.

  • i love this game, i cant play on Xp

  • Suprising how many eastern european developers there are.

  • Could be fun to port this to doom :D

  • Not a terrible game at all. Certainly not a kinetic as Quake or as deep as Doom, but it had very well-made levels (considering the engine limitations), incredible enemies, and great creepy soundtrack/atmosphere.

  • @IntelgratedShiznit Actually, the term has been misused nowadays. People use it on games that clearly still have an active copyright. Very few games that people call Abandonware are actually Abandonware.

  • WHAT IS AN ABANDONWARE?

  • 2:33 HOLY SHIT, GORDON FREEMAN!

  • You never heard of the Wookie Bowcaster right?

  • Haha dude i still play diablo 2

  • @IOwnTheStreets one of my friends do too

  • Who cares about Multiplayer. Half life 2 surely did not need.

  • You know what other game had a laser crossbow? DF2: JEDI KNIGHT! It's a Wookie weapon.

    ...just sayin'.

  • i remember playing the demo on windows 98. also saw it at target for sale. shit was fun

  • Fantastic game proper old school FPS,

always remember shooting the saw discs around, and the fuckin scorpions..lol

  • Wait a moment...Time Strikers?

    Time Splitters...Time Striker...hmm XD

Actually, the graphics look great :)

  • es una gran juego xD,

    great game

    saludos

  • THANK YOU FOR UPLOADING THIS VID!! BRINGS BACK MEMORIES!!!!!

  • WHAT DA FUCKA IS THIS SHITE

  • @chucktard

You are such a retard, this game was made in 1997, it had beatifull effect, high detail models and great ambient soundtracks!

It had sucked at multi player and the maps were a bit bad but it used 2.5D levels like Doom/Doom2/Duke Nukem 3D so there were limitations but DN3D has angle floors so too bad that Chasm The Rift dint had that and there werent a manipulation effect like in build engine, Floor above Floor...

It is a miracle to have 2.5D maps with full 3D models better then Q2 !

  • Who realy needs multiplayer anyways.

  • They can consider themselves winners. Bad writing lol.

  • @redfoxbennaton omg just listening to him say that grinded at my nerves

  • @redfoxbennaton they were from Ukraine, what do you think?

Their gramatics is complicated then english gramar, Ukraine language is complicated like my language, iam from Croatia so what if i speak english and try implementing my mothertounge gramatics!

  • Comment removed

  • @redfoxbennaton

    That was stupid...

  • @MetalChanel5of10 Bluhhhhhh! Sorry.

  • the best review I have see

    great review man

    this is compatible with xp???

  • i remember playing the demo version of this when i was a kid. it was awesome !

  • i played this as a kid. completed it also. awesome game. never got the attention it deserved.

    ah well.

    i remember some spooky moments.

  • a nerdier asian there never was.

  • a very VERY good review.

    you are a pro.

  • it hade an clow devil on the frontside, with 1 of the arm were an chainsaw thing .P

  • good old memory :D. thx for doing an reivew on this one. :

:bought this game mabye 10 years ago new :D. only becouse of the artwork on the box.. well not the best pc game, but oh well it hade some fun monsters and weapons.

by the way i really miss the old big pc box that games did come with.

  • @zebure

Any example of how they looked?

  • Comment removed

  • i have this game and the expansion the expansion has only 4 maps but they are better designed than most of the maps form chasm

  • this game was ok, but a source port would make it more popular, doom, hexen, heretic, wolfenstien 3d, and quake had many and even duke nukem 3d has a source port still going so, why not.

  • i was too busy playing diablo

  • I still remember this old game ;P btw- it's rly crazy ;) and goreeee :)

  • Wow. Great review and the script was well written. I'm shocked anybody would take the time to write/record such a thorough review of a game I could barely stand back in 1997. My memory of the game was that it just wasn't fun to play--much like Mortyr and that horrible KISS FPS.

  • This is an exellent review. I'm a Doom, Quake, DN3D...ect fan, but I've never heard of this one.

A game that I can also add to the list of poor level design, was Hexen. The hub system was a great idea, but I felt like the small linear rooms gave me no freedom or adventure.

  • oh.. and by the way, did I mention that you are annoying????

  • go bite yourself with the viper idiot! the game is the greatest of its time!!!

  • It looks like the Quake engine am i correct that it's using it.

  • it's actually NOT the Quake engine.

  • Haha i actually bought this game way back in the day. It's fucking awesome. :P

  • Great review!

  • I have the full game. My dad gave it to me from his teen-hood box or retro games. I still play it all the time :D

  • Ah, I remember this game!

    Anywhere to download it?

  • Try Abandonia

  • They can be considered winners.

  • I found this game hidden somewhere getting dusty and it fails and crashes after the dialogue at the start.

  • that was a very good review.

  • Hey that's a pretty good review!

  • I member this game, that was cool ! 5*

  • I love that he keeps a bottle of Crown Royal next to his computer. I usually have a bottle of Jameson or Johnnie Walker handy for my gaming needs.

  • I had to install windows ME on an older computer from 2001 (win98 and 95 didnt work on my comp). I tried winxp and 2000 with those dos emulators but it never worked for this game. After I got past a few levels, all my mouses started failing during the game. :(

  • YOUR SO COOL!!!

  • WHERE CAN ONE DOWNLOAD THIS!?!?

I played the demo of this like 1000 times on the 1000 Encyclopedia of Games CD...

  • Well, these games are so old... sadly, a simple Google-search should do the trick.

You might even discover the full version, as well as the demo... dang. It's really sad.

  • Crossbows do not go

    *PEW*PEW*PEW*

    XD

  • Very cool game... I played the demo for this one to death! One of the first 3D shooters I remember playing on my old Win95 box, too. :)

  • i love'ed this game as a demo

i play'ed on a network with my family

it "was" fun but not over and over

  • Thanks for the badass review! I'd like to find a lot more first person shooters I LUV THEM <3 Plus I totally spot a bottle of Crown Royal on his desk HAhahahahahhahahahahaha That makes him that much cooler.

  • you're a legend man nice and funny review's 5/5

  • This game was made by our collegues in gamedev from Ukraine. It's realy have bad designed maps, but it's have more cool things Quake1 doesn't have. Actualy I'm fan of Q1, but this game deserves more! 5 of 5! Thanks, Jason!

    Nickolay Leschenko,

    NETSOFTWARE.

  • Ths game is from Ukrania? I didnt know. Never played but appears good.

  • You should try it... there is a lot of archives with this cool game all over the internet...

By the way... music in this game is Audio CD... and its very nice fit gameplay...

  • @netsoftware

    I dint know that...

  • I never played it. It looks like Heretic or Hexen.

  • True about shooting limbs. Until cyrysis and sof3 came out.

  • What about the original SOF? Still way after Chasm, but even then it's way before Crysis and SOF3 (before SOF3 is kind of "duh" though).

And I agree that this game is worth at least one play through.

  • Great review. I remember playing this and games like Ultima Underworld and Blood on the very first laptop I ever owned back when they were way to bulky to really carry around.

  • Nice review kid! I like it! Very detailed and straight to the point! I hope you review other games!

  • Not a bad game. 5*

  • I remember playing a pc demo of this yeeeeeeeeears ago.....I thought it was quite cool.

  • Man, this looks WAY better than Quake.

  • Oh man, i remember playing this as a kid and it was so cool! Shooting arms off!? Fucking kick ass! And i use to shit myself with the ambient sounds and enemy warcries

  • um... didn't Chewbacca use a laser crossbow?!

  • only thing i wanna say about this is its looks like quake... so its also awesome... but i never played this ..

  • LOL so much drama with laser crossbow ever heard of wookie crossbow in star wars?

  • I remember playing this a long time ago. It was pretty good.

  • excellent review.

nice, good choice. this is pure nostalgia. i was one of the few that partook of obscure games like this.

it's good to see someone else out there has a penchant for awesome oldschool games.

  • your so cool but since you did Blood 1 you should revew blood 2 and its expantion i think it was funny but thats just my thoughts

  • Never heard of that one. Cool video.

  • COOL

  • this was like ma first pc game! lol i spent hours apon hours playing this game when i was a kid.. omg.. lots of memories!!

  • Chasm was quite good for it's time, but I agree on the level design aspect. It was real shitty. Confusing and plain ugly in some parts. Still, a worthwhile game to check out if you're into post-Quake era shooters.

  • I partly agree, partly disagree with you..

About the level design is that maybe it WAS kinda confusing, but it looked very real on the other hand, when i played that game, i never remember having problems with navigating, only in a couple of levels

  • lol at 1:59 it's shoop da woop XD imma firin'ma lazer!

  • Wow, man...this brings back memories!! Loved the game...too bad it wasn't much talked about!! I'm glad you brought it up the well!!

This and Strife, are two legendary games that will never die to me! ;)

    Thanks dude!

  • Nice review. Good research and video editing.

  • nice review man

  • You got Whisky on your table. Cheers.

P.S: you can see it at 00:32.

  • The technique used for levels is called raycasting. I believe it was first introduced in wolfenstein 3d. It was used in many games of that age. One more limitation is that the 'camera' can't rotate around the Z axis.

  • very intelligent review. Thx

  • this was much like Hexen 2 but the first game of Hexen beat the 2nd far more than anyone would think of its time.

  • lol "imma firin' ma lazer"

  • Props - cool review. Liked the game... good for laughs.

  • This game looks awesome!

  • Excellent review. Detailed and clear, and funny.

  • fuckin agamzing game, what a memories, thanks for this review bro!

  • Great review.

I picked up this game when it 1st came out. I remember the opening scene having some cool whether effects. Also, I remember some of the bad guys having a device that would allow them to fly.

  • geesh. i've missed this, but i heard of it back then. gotta try.

  • this game scared the shit outta me when i was 10 :D

  • lawl voodoo graphic cards...now THATS prehistoric!

  • The ambient soundtrack IS cool, but nowhere near Quake's (I mean come on, you can't beat Trent Reznor). Also that sawblade shooter thing later turned up in Unreal Tournament (the Ripper) and some later games like Kingpin and Soldier Of Fortune let you shoot off limbs.

  • Where can I get the text-to speech program that makes these reviews? :P

  • Lol, "Sit there and take it like a bitch." Classic description ;)

  • This game was very dark.

  • Never heard of this game seems different then the usually

  • You should have mentioned the great boss battles, where you had to fight the bosses with tricks, i.e. lure the vampire bat into sunlight and stuff. THIS was my favourite feature in the game!

  • i think i played this once long ago but it might of been a different game it was so long ago i cant even remember its name.

  • i remember this game, it was awesome

  • Saav its not quake you cunt.

  • I played a demo of this back in the day and I thought it was pretty good. I much prefered DN3D though.

  • is this made with Quake 1 engine?

  • nope

  • Probably not, cause its not a full 3D game

  • Okay, that IS a pretty cool ambient soundtrack going on.

  • Did anyone notice how the automatic weapon is similar to the one found in Unreal 1?

  • ITS GOOD GAME

  • imma firin ma laser XD LOL

  • Nothing wrong with laser crossbows :|.

  • "They can be considered winners."

Haha! that made my day :) nice review as always, i've decided to become a classic gamer myself. None of today's modern titles and gameplay appeals to me.

  • Hmmm... I bought the game in 97 and it did have MP, could have been a spec vers though.

I also managed to play it in XP without any dos.But after a while the graph went bananas.

  • laser crossbow isnt a bad idea.

if its a grossbow with shells that have lasers coming out of em

  • Btw this isnt the first game with a Laser Crosbow, Heretic had a Laser Crossbow too

  • Heretic had Eternal Crossbow, firing Magic Arrows, not Laser.

  • will its practicaly the same

  • I loved that game, it was really fun, and there was supposed to be an expansion, that I dont think ever came :(

Fun game, I was kinda young at the time, but anyway ^^

  • Why are they blaming the laser crossbow?

It was such a kickass wep!

  • is the same great review

  • You know you think a laser and a crossbow are a stupid crossover, but look at Starwars they Wookees use bow casters which are essentially crossbows that fire lasers!!!

  • This game rocked!

  • another nice review there, well done. love this game.

  • I ran this back in 1998 on my pentium 133mhz.

getting anything to run smoothly on your forced outdated hardware would automatically make games like chasm your favorite game.

thanks for reviewing it man, what a great abandonware memory.

  • I really love this game. As for the cornering situations, I usually keep enemies stunned at the same time with a rapid fire weapon. Funny you didn't show the room in Episode 3, Level 4 where you are ambushed by four vikings, with two on each side. That is the worst ambush I've ever encountered in the game.

  • Another great review. Can't wait for the next one!

  • jokes aren't necessary. this was a good review, goes through the positive and negative aspects of the game, was very informative, and (for me at least) held my attention very well. if someone isn't good at making jokes or doesn't want to make jokes, then they don't need to.

  • Good point.

  • i have this game i think its great

  • What I love, is that not only do you talk about the game itself and its playability, but you discuss the nature of the market at the time, as well as PC standards.

This sets your reviews above and beyond just the game, but to a whole setting of the time as well. Almost a computer history lesson-- except much more interesting.

Jason, I love what you're doing. Keep up the great work. I look forward to your next production!

  • another game that you should check is the overdrive from team17(1993) it's extremely hard to find since very few know this game. so i can send it to you via e-mail if you want

the game is a simple top down racing game nothing diffrent, but as i said it's impossiple to find, thus making it rare.

  • I always look forward to these videos. You really investigate the game, and give everything that you need to know to tell whether it's good or not. Also, it's funny.

  • Love the review, as always. You certainly have a niche as a reviewer. One thing I'd like to add, in regard to level design criticism. A lot of the rooms look like 128 height, making some parts of the level look like Wolfenstein. Not even Doom had oodles of rooms that had 128 height.

  • A Very underrated game...

  • this looks like a PS game

  • Cool review, Jason!

I remember playing this back when it was released. I was totally crazy waiting for it to come out, because the computer magazine I was reading back then was all over this game.

So I got my hands on it, and I really loved the speed and the severed limbs, but that was about the first three stages, and after that, it got really boring.

  • I really like these reviews, man. Not only do you provide an analysis of the game, you tell us about its history. Keep it up, d00d.

  • I voted for you (first). ;)

  • I feel that games that require
