There's an idea that would be both nuts and fun at the same time; Lotus-7-type roadster with a 5 litre V8. Either an all-time burnout champion, a ball-tearer of a drag car, or a real handful as a track car
I wanted to ask a question about the chassis. Do you think that the engine bay of the +442 would fit a 4.6L 3v Ford? They're about 10 inches wider than the 5.0L, and 2 inches taller. I want to build a Locost, but I want to go modern tech, and Ford sells off these 3v engines for cheap.

I am afaid you don't want to know the answer to that. 44/56 is not good at all and this thing will be in the 60/40 range. Not something you want to take fast corners with unless you like eating dust.
Unfortunately, just another small car with a "big" engine. History is filled with these. Very sad.
whats so unfortunate about another small car with big engine? history is filled with these cuz... it works o.o its what ppl aim for, small light cars with strong powerful engines. unless u rather have a huge heavy car with a 1L engine...
anyways nice build :D planning on a mid engine build my self!
In Tanner's book, with a Miata engine his car weighed in at 1257lbs full of gas with a 44/56 F/R split. Have you weighed yours and figured out your front/rear split?
hey what are the spec differences between your and a normal caterham...cause i am starting to build mine and i do have a 302 sitting in my garage and i dont know if i wanna do that or to just go with the busa motor and if i do i wannna know if i will be able to switch if i ever wanted to
Holy Smokes! Absolutly awesome build! I am planning on doing building a locost when I'm done with my 95 stang. But I wanted to use a 302 ford. I have a spare block in my garage and other parts. I just had never seen anybody do it. Now It's GOING TO HAPPEN. Please post more vids on your progress. Also, did you use a prebuilt frame or your own. Did you use plans out of a book? Any mods to the frame to fit the 5.0L? I am very interested in any info. GREAT JOB!
This is a wonderful machine. Great job on the build!

How much did this cost? And how much would it cost for a really simple, basic, like 100hp one?

The only thing I would do differently would be an I6, but that's just preference. AMAZING build.

I've always wanted to do something ridiculous like that. Hell just twin turbo that puppy. Then you'd be good to go haha.

Dude, nice job!
That's exactly what I was intending on doing with my front suspension
Who wants springs sitting outside & adding to the friction when there's no need for it...
Though all I have is the Haynes "Build your own Sports Car - on a budget" book so far lol

FYI its 1525 #'sdry, 48% Front 52 % Rear, and handles extremely well.

@reddryer hopefully this isnt a stupid question but is it an aluminum block to help achieve that?

does the weightof the V8 effect the handling much?
addys 2 years ago
I imagine it would. Here people say that the weight of an F20C Honda engine compromises the handling over a 4AGE engine.

thats the thing i love about kit cars especialy the caterham style, is that you can put any damn engine you want in them aslong as it can fit.
