WCVB had renewed their affiliation with ABC, and in fact, during the switch, they ran some spots with ABC entertainment and news stars telling WCVB viewers "I'm not going anywhere!".
I recall Roseanne Barr and Peter Jennings were among those that did promos.
Was Anthony hiding underneath a rock by July of 1994? "The One to Watch" basically got killed very close to the format change in late 1993, even though Sunbeam still owned them prior, I should note. And the tabloid format kicked into the New Year of 1994.
The Sunbeam tabloid format (or the "attractive news" format, in the words of Edmund Ansin) premiered on November 1, 1993. Therefore, "The One to Watch" campaign from the NETV reign folded on Halloween '93.
If 7 doesn't get any better with NBC going into the toilet, maybe David Mugar can get a bargain on it and re create News 7 - again, but it might be scarce getting news talent, because it would be too expensive. I think Mr. Ansin will still be a billionaire, still be in the Forbes richest people while WSVN is still making the run for their money 20 years now. The tabloid format helped HDH's ratings because of the strength of the Must See TV - if that wasn't the case - they wouldn't have been #1.
Would you PLEASE NBC Universal,Gannett Company,Post Newsweek Stations or Cox Enterprises BUY WHDH-TV.
Would you PLEASE FCC strip Sunbeam Communications away from WHDH-TV although I want WHDH-TV to remain an NBC Affiliate however with new ownership and plus I want Jay Leno to air at 10:00PM in the Boston TV Market when it begins in September.
the truth is westinghouse bought cbs. wbz was owned by westinghouse, so of course the switch was made to become an affiliate. in truth, wbz and its parent company owned cbs for a short period.
I don't understand what she had to gain by that statement.
We knew before this story came out that Channel 7 would be the NBC affiliate.
All of the satellite equipment had to be taken out and moved from Channel 4 (that was on the ground) to Channel 7 (on the roof blocked by a huge building).
I think WCVB did this story as a public service to viewers. They realize people don't only watch Channel 5. Plus, they can honk their own horn that they are basically the only one not switching affiliations.
That Ed Siegel was partly right; since switching to CBS, WBZ's news ratings haven't been able to re-capture the levels it had during the NBC years. WHDH, after taking NBC, was a long-term contender for once.

I agree with Mac...remember that in 1994, NBC had Seinfeld, the NBA, The Tonight Show, and I believe, the MLB and NFL

I My View Reading the Comments I think WBZ would of been better of with NBC

@Macduck92 That was right around the time Westinghouse, owners of WBZ-TV, merged with CBS.

WGGBDT2 has a fox station. WGGB 40 in Springfield, Mass is an ABC Afiliate in Western Mass

...and WBZ never recovered. CBS had one of the weakest prime time lineups ever that year, and WBZ ratings went right in the tank.

They Thought WHDH-TV is now an NBC Affiliate not FOX Because WFXT-TV Had Fox Programming

I did not even know that the affiliate switch was taking place until 12/26/04.

You would NEVER see one station doing a story regarding other stations nowadays unless they were involved too.
JimmySand9 4 years ago
Nor would they use the other stations logos.

JimmySand9 rings up a great point--that is what The Indiana State News Center and Discussion does almost every newscasts (since 2/5/07. )

Aeverine, you're not a real newscast... not to sound rude.

As mentioned in the video, it was WBZ's lose. It still is to this day.For WHDH however, its a gain,.
