Looking back on this movie, the family themes/motifs felt a little forced. Especially that final battle, not enough explanation for how the game works, nor is the audience familiar enough to get a feel for it, making the finale less gripping.

Well you have to remember that this is a different culture we're talking about in this movie. The game that Natsuki beats Love Machine at is hanafuda. It's a Japanese card game that everyone knows. Kind like Poker if for most Americans. Trying to explain everything for a foreign audience would have ruined the movie.

Definitely. But you have to consider that this movie wouldn't be what it is if the Digimon movie wasn't created. Summer Wars had to step it up as it had to tell the story in 2 hours what Our War Game did with 4 seasons of character building to back it up. It would only be a problem if Summer Wars wasn't that good.

Don't quote me on this, but I think the second King Kazma is an upgraded version and Kazuma just decided to give him blond hair. But I agree, he looks a lot better without it.

@ILuvDeliciousCake Technically, it's a learning program. So, all it could do is what it was programmed to do in the beginning. As it continues to experience new things, it learns and as it learns, it gets stronger. It is, in essence, the equivalent of a human's baby intelligence during this part. That's most likely why the military would want to purchase it; an A.I. has the capacity to learn, to change itself, to evolve on its own.
