  • who's playing drums?

  • funny part is nobody in the crowd know who the fuck that is playing guitar. shame.

  • I've been a Metahead for years and went through that high school phase where I would cut off bands who did mainstream things. At the end of the day it comes down to the music and materials. If Zakk was playing Nirvana or white stripes kinda shit then yeah I'd be pissed but he is playing a classic 80s song on big TV show. I really don't think its a big deal. At the end of the day he is still Zakk Fucking Wylde and hasn't changed his style for anything. SDMF

  • My god its fucking Zakk Wylde!

  • 2:07 chucky

  • Comment removed

  • Zakk looks great. He must be feeling better...

James Durbin, the only person I ever wanted to see win American Idol...

  • The only reason he got voted off is because nobody knows metal...but us

  • @JWBV94

This. One time i played a metal song and people said "what is that nose?"

People in general don't know metal.

  • Is that Zakk Wylde?

  • @F19991 No, its his brother Zekk

  • Its all pop under a different name

  • Too fast, slow it down boy.

  • This IS Metal. It may be classic metal but still. \m/

  • Stop being genre-whores and enjoy the damn music, whatever its label may be.

Yes there are certain differences, but who gives a shit? I don't listen to my music based on genre; I listen to music based on appeal, and anyone who claims to like a band just because of their genre is what most people call a "poser."

Listen to what you want to hear.

  • I hope that I do not bare witness to the death of Metal because of punk ass posers who treat it as a social statement rather than a way of life, polluting its glory with their bickering of 'that's not metal - I know metal'. No, son, you do not know metal. Get your head out of your ass and do some soul searching before you even consider making a statement as bold as 'I know Metal'. Because right now you're a blind monk grasping at an elephant's dick completely ignoring the rest of the beast.

  • Better singer than Sammy Hagar, but a shitty singer compared to real metal singers (Sammy hagar never sang metal in his entire life, by the way)

Compare to the singers of Rhapsody of Fire, Blind Guardian, and Sonata Arctica

  • Oh, shut up. You don't need screams for it to be metal. Guess what? Black Sabbath is still metal. Iron Maiden is still metal. Bullet for my Valentine is metal, Five Finger Death Punch is metal, Killswitch Engage is metal, All That Remains is metal, Suicide Silence is metal. They're ALL metal. Hair metal, doom metal, death metal, deathcore... it's a diverse freaking genre. And, I hate to break it to you guys, but good metal is about a lot more than just being "brutal"

  • @TheMrBassdude

I hate to break it to you, but Metal and Hard Rock are different things. Bands like BFMV, Five Finger Death Punch and Killswitch Engage fall into the mallcore genre, which, in turn, falls into the hard rock genre.

So those bands aren't metal after all.

  • @KakashiDominates No. Even if they didn't scream at all, they'd be metal. Hard rock is more Rev Theory, Rise Against and Black Tide. In my opinion, mallcore isn't even a genre: it's jsut like fans calling something Aliencore or Circuscore. You don't need to give things a million different subgenres. How do you explain Maiden and Metallica and Black Sabbath being metal, but not these bands? It's in the drums and the pulse, and the simple fact that it's heavy, in a different way than hard rock is

  • @TheMrBassdude Go on wikipedia Type in Bullet For My Valentine Scroll down to "musical style and influence" Read "Tuck went on to state that "…we're a hard rock band with metal influences, and I’ve said that from Day One.”" Admit that I'm right You little mallcore kids all want the music you like to be better than it really is A good resource for you is a website called "metal-archives" There's 82,000 metal bands entered into the archive If your band isn't in there, it's not metal
  • @KakashiDominates Debatable. What it comes down to is what the artists call themselves, not what the fans think. You disagree with me, that's fine. But I dunno why you're calling me a "little mallcore kid". I listen to everything from the Beatles to Bring Me the Horizon, it's not like these bands are all I listen to. You disagree with me, and evidently I was wrong as far as Bullet goes, I concede that. But, by your argument, you were wrong about Killswitch. It doesn't matter, this is Youtube

  • @TheMrBassdude

I was partially wrong about Killswitch

Their first two albums were metal, their last three were not

And besides, in the world of heavy metal, mallcore and metalcore are synonymous with poser

Just talk to anyone who's listened to real metal for 3+ years and they'll tell you

  • @KakashiDominates Can we agree to disagree? We're not getting anywhere haha. And I really don't care if you call it metal or bubble-gum pop, I either like it or not. What someone calls it really doesn't matter, in the long run. (And, since a good portion of my friends have been metalheads since middle school, they respectfully dispute your metalcore comment.) But it doesn't matter, I surrender

  • @TheMrBassdude

    No.

    We can't agree to disagree.

    Because I hate ignorance.

I used to be just like you a few years back, crooning over bands like Slipknot and Disturbed, stating they were metal without any actual proof,

but then I began to listen to Thrash, Death, Black metal And I began to play guitar, and recognize characteristics in each musical genre And I learned a few metalcore/mallcore songs, and I realized that they leaned closer to hard rock then metal

    So please educate yourself

  • @KakashiDominates You wanna keep this going? Fine. Ignorance is not arguing over the subtleties. Ignorance is making it matter. Something being metal doesn't make it better than something that isn't metal. I've played bass for 6 years, everything from jazz to death metal. And hard rock songs on bass are way different from metal. And drums on BFMV or Five Finger songs are VERY similar to more 'metal' bands. There's no "proving" that something is metal; until a concrete definition of the genre...

  • @KakashiDominates (cont.) exists, neither of us can prove that we're right. Hell, you could still make the argument that metal is still a sub-genre of rock, if you felt so inclined. It doesn't matter. What I think doesn't matter, what you think doesn't matter. The GENRE doesn't matter. Because I'd rather listen to decent 'mallcore' bands than a shitty 'real metal' band, anyway. Calling something metal is just qualifying something, not defining it

  • @TheMrBassdude

I hate mallcore and metalcore because most of the bands in the genre are sellouts, and the underground bands in the genre are aiming to become sellouts as well

It's not all about the music, it's the bands attitude as well

'Real Metal' bands are never sellouts

    I like the band Snot

    That's a Nu-Metal (mallcore) band

    Because they're not sellouts

Despite being one of the pioneering bands in the genre, they never sold out

  • @KakashiDominates Besides, Wikipedia isn't exactly the world's most reliable source. As Abraham Lincoln once said, "74% of all internet quotes are made up"

  • this is good, really good, bus it is not metal. i dont know if is hard rock, but NOT metal!!!!

  • This is definitely more rock than metal but who gives a shit, the vocals suck.

  • Jesus Christ, shut the fuck up guys, and listen to some awesome music!

  • Zack wylde awsome

  • Good for american idol but... So not metal

  • @ilikerock222 true ........

  • @ilikerock222 Its old school metal man

  • @ilikerock222 dude, metal doesn't have to be ultra-heavy to be cool. There are lots of metal bands like bullet for my valentine, metallica, iron maiden, black sabbath, etc that definitely aren't the heaviest heavy metal bands but are still really cool. It doesn't have to be super heavy metal to be cool metal.

  • Comment removed

  • @1995Blackrosedying Bullet is not HEAVY METAL NO!!! they are wannabe nu metal!! Metallica, listen tu ride the lighting, seek and destroy, whiplash, battery, kill em all. Iron Maiden is heavy metal, , the number of the beast , the trooper, etc . And Black sabath, the created heavy metal, listen tu iron ma, paranoid, etc

  • @lordNARUTOITACHI1234 lol that's funny because bullet is heavier than all of those bands. My point is that metal doesn't have to be ultra low tuned and screams to be cool. Softer metal is cool too. I hate when people have this "I only listen to SUPER heavy metal" attitude. Especially since that style of metal CAME from the softer metal. Guys, it's all cool, there's no one style that's better, and all metal is metal. Heaviness does not change how 'metal' it is.

  • This dude is a beast

  • @ zyriuz. And I also don't agree with your opinion on iron maiden not being metal. They are one of the most influential 80's METAL bands of all time, next to ozzy :P. So to say that a metal guitar has a sharp crisp sound is a perfectly valid point, but you've got to remember, that's not the sound that was popular in the 80's. Again, take it from me, I'm a 80's nut! Iron maiden is considered a metal band of their era. Metal has evolved into what it is today because of them. People try different

  • @ zyruz2. Well in most cases your right. Ive grown up listening to and loving 80's metal which is now considered classic rock OR 80's metal. Now most metal bands do have a sharper crisp guitar sound, but you'll still find that sweet Randy Rhoads blasted treble or iron maidens classic sound. It doesn't mean it's not metal, all it means is that that guitarist has been influenced by older music :). Take it from me. I've been playing guitar for 11 years and I'm 16 now. My influences are Randy Rho

  • James is a good kid with the right attitude about music, I guess he fought hard to perform this song, and 99% of the songs performed on the show are pure crap. This one was fun. I got his cd and there are 4 decent rock songs and amazing ballad called 'May', the potential is there. His next cd he needs to take a risk and go full hardcore rock because that's how he'll get respect.

  • kinda hardcore-ultra-brutal-death-gore-folk-pagan-viking-black-metal.. with justin bieber :D

  • fuck this metal-wanabe kid im gona go listening ozzy ousbourne

  • @IWANAROCKYEEEAAAA That's about rude. He was just on American Idol last year so he's just starting out for one, for 2 he's fought Tourrette’s Syndrome and Asperger’s so considering that I think he's doing an amazing job.

  • @pixeydust77 give me a break, i hate the sympathy trip tat they put on for every contestant. Nothing against the kid, but why do we have to know the contestants personal life? shouldn't it be on talent alone?

  • @negativewierdo All I'm saying is that he has accomplished a lot and he's been through a lot. Sympathy trip? Who's to say it's a sympathy trip or if they are trying to get to know their contestants and their contestants...at least some of them are going to have a bad childhood or have some kind of disease like James, etc. I heard quite a bit about the other contestants lives as well. They just didn't have as much of a sad story as James. So now it's a sympathy trip?

  • @pixeydust77 First, Aspergers isn't a disease, I would know because my brother has it and practically every member of my dad's family. And I honestly don't aim this at the kid, but it irritates me when people tell their sa stories on these shows. Mainly because it should matter on a show like this, and two because, well, practically EVERYONE has had a sad moment in their life. I have, I'm sure you have to.

  • @negativewierdo I don't remember how it all broke down. They saw his eye scrunching thing that he did and maybe asked him about it or whatever the case may be. We learned a lot about all of the contestants not just James. James just had a sad story to tell and Casey ended up having to go to the ER because of something he had. He just had more obstacles to overcome, life in general and then his "diseases" Aspergers may not be a disease per se. Something still life altering and something he....

  • @negativeweirdo still had to learn to get around.

  • @negativewierdo I prefer to believe that it goes to show you can do anything no matter your obstacles if you want it bad enough, and I'm not meaning to be rude but I guess that's only part of the difference between and optimist and a pessimist.

  • Amazing last note the A! Just pure talent

  • i agree with him, but america likes bullshit like ke$ha these days.

  • your amazing James

    '

  • wow you guys need to find something better to do Mustaine Hammett Dimebag Randy roads are all bad ass musicians in there own right they are all insperations to me as a guitar player even when i play trumpet in a jazz band there ripping guitar solos come out in my trumpet solos any real musician will tell he or she dosent give a fuck if some one dosent like what there playing or how the play it i play music because thats what i love to do

  • @tallicalover4 Don't mention Randy Rhoads unless you can spell his name right. -_-

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow Do you just hate any kind of modern-metal music? If so; you're a closed-minded wanker.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow And thats funny how you say pantera has no skill because most death metal bands cant even handle dimes leads, and as someone who has played megadeth song after megadeth song (with most death metal bands being less technically challenging than megadeth, and seeing what dime can do) pantera easily gives them a run for their money.

  • I can care less about over scrutinizing this video for god sakes its fkn zakk wylde \m/

  • I ♥ HIM!

  • Didn't know whether to laugh or cry....

  • @KINGARTHUR3341 so Cannibal corpse is considered metal to you but Lamb of God isnt? if i rember correctly Cannibal Corse and Lamb of God both describe them selves as death metal

  • @XxRiBzxX yeah but its not up to the band to label themselves, its up to the fans and the people who know the metal genres well. If its really up to the band then slipknot is fucking metal and is right up there with pantera (which is an abomination putting those two names together).

  • @KINGARTHUR3341 Slipknot and pantera both rock and a majority of people would consider Lamb of God metal too

  • @XxRiBzxX Lamb of God is Metal. They're just a shitty Pantera clone. And Pantera sucks badly as it is, and everyone knows clones are never as good as the original, meaning Lamb of God sucks even more.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow ya lamb of god isnt that good but there a metal band like em or not

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow Kirk hammett predicatble and boring? lol Thats just your bad keen ear for music, which is evident in your poor simplistic analysis of randy rhoads.Van halen might of not been metal, but damm he influenced and shaped the foundation of the metal genre: Muscians are lucky to even nudge it: case closed.

  • @KINGARTHUR3341 You're right... Except that Kirk Hammett is a shitty and less than ordinary guitarist

  • @ilivpigeons there are more genres of metal than just thrash and groove metal. :-/ whoever the drummers sucks though.

  • I want to hear someone on here do a Dream Theater song. While I definitely can't guarantee that there would be solos anywhere near as good as Rudess, Petrucci, and Myung, at least the singer would have a LOT of work to do: A lot of tone and grit. Maybe do Constant Motion and have Portnoy come on to do backing vocals.

  • wish he wouldave done some Dio while on the show

  • i come for zakk!!

  • nottt fucking fair i love zakk

  • @iluvpigeons Lamb of god and Devildriver are two of my favorite bands actually, but its music like this that created the foundation for the new metal acts. If bands like blue cheer are considered to be purveyors of heavy metal, then why not this?

  • ZAKK WYLDE \m/

  • To everyone here saying that this, priest, maiden, etc., isn't metal, you're a disgrace to the metal scene and you need to go back to sucking your mothers tits and learn about what real fucking metal is, none of this metalcore, deathgrind horsefuckery

  • @thatsvagtastic001 Umm you need to listen to some Lamb Of God, Chimaira, devildriver, Rob Zombie etc and educate yourself on what Metal is.... This is about as heavy as bag full of flowers. This is ROCK, there is NOTHING metal about this...

  • @iluvpigeons Except, maybe, the fuckin' ultimate metal guitarist....

  • @sproingenz Ok, so based on your logic, if Adam D or Kerry King played a Celine Dion song, the song is therefore Metal. Ok, I got it now, metal is all about who plays the guitar and not the song.

  • @iluvpigeons You show me Kerry King playing a Celine Dion song, and I'll show you the most METAL FUCKING CELINE DION COVER in the history of man. Not that it's incredibly likely.

  • @iluvpigeons Just cuz the vocalist is a nancy ass bitch doesn't disqualify it, unfortunately. Look at Judas Priest.

  • @iluvpigeons did you say lamb of god is metal, and rob zombie is metall too? Thats not metal. metal is pantera, slayer, megadeth, metallica, kreator, sepultura, mercyful fate, morbid angel, judas priest, maiden, cannibal corpse, kataklysm, ozzy, sacred reich, nuclear assault, yngwie malmsteen etc. Dont worry @thatsvagtastic001 , iluvpigeons doesnt know what metal is, especially since he began with bands that are not consider metal.

  • @KINGARTHUR3341 Ok everyone, did you hear what this child just said? he just said 'Lamb Of God' isn't metal... Please feel free to join me in tearing this severely uneducated idiotic cunt to shreds

  • @iluvpigeons OHH did i struck a nerve? lmao hahahaha damm. All the bands that I mentioned are ten times better than lamb of god (pantera>>>>>lamb of god, megadeth>>>>>>>lamb of god, sepultura>>>>>> lamb of god......etc. .Never heard anybody that was serious about metal get all emotional after someone else called lamb of god not metal lol.

  • @KINGARTHUR3341 Slipknot and Pantera are both metal, different kinds, but metal. Metal bands are named like that because of the heaviness of their music. Aerosmith, Velvet Revolver, Van Halen are rock, and are not as heavy as Slipknot, right? Just because you don't like em doesn't mean they're not metal. Because of guys like you, metal now has 11,938 subgenres (death metal, deathcore, mathcore, and all that shit), but let's say it's right, Slipknot belongs to one genre, and Pantera to another

  • @mrbig71014 I disagree with you. Just because a band plays tune down guitars with distortion and scream or squeel, or growl it doesnt automatically make them metal. Just look at the image of slipknot. Bunch of fools with masks on, doing irrelevant things on stage, dressed up like morons. Do you really need that many people in one band? No.

  • @KINGARTHUR3341 Well, the image doesn't necesarilly tell if its metal or not. Megadeth, Dream Theater, August Burns Red and many other bands, which are metal (except maybe DT, who still have a lot of metal elements), only have long hair, or don't even have it, and they're metal. Slipknot, with their masks, try to seem dark and heavy, which is what metal is about. Haven't been to a Slipknot show, but I've hear that they're generally well received in metal festivals, not only by their audience.

  • @mrbig71014 Metal isn't about being dark or heavy, and Slipknot isn't a Metal band. They're a shitty Nu-Metal band. Nu-Metal is overly distorted Alternative Rock with Rap influences.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow Most of the metal bands today sound the fucking same and they follow the generic sound of the popular ones. Dimebag tunned his guitar down a quarter step (like megadeth) which is uncommon in the metal scene today. Phil had range in his voice and im pretty sure thats why dimebag tuned it to match him and to get a different sound. So where is the evidence? Most of those shity bands I speak of will either way say their influences were mainstream metal of the 80s. Nice try.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow Yeah, Slipknot has Rap influences... Well, yeah, Nu Metal is Metal... Yes, it has alternative rock influences, but it is also dark, heavy, challenging, and has double bass drumming, down tuned guitars and growling, which is what metal is about... You seem to know pretty well what Metal isn't, but clearly don't know what it is??? Shit... And, BTW, anyone who believes that Kirk Hammett is a great guitarist, clearly doesn't know what music is, and needs to shut up.

  • @mrbig71014 I never said Kirk Hammett was great. I said he was overrated, boring, and predictable.

However. No. Being dark, heavy, challenging, and having double bass drumming, down-tuned guitars or growling doesn't make you Metal. I believe I said it once before: If that was the case, every punk genre since the beginning of the 80's would be considered Metal, too. It is not. It would also negate literally every Metal sub-genre that isn't Death Metal, Black Metal, or the most extreme Thrash.

  • @mrbig71014 even the muscians themseleves like zakk wylde, ozzy, and dimebag when he was alive, criticized the direction of metal was taking.I remember ozzy saying that the bands at the ozzfest were telling him that he inspired them, but when he saw them play from backstage he said "how did inspire that???".zakk and dimebag also saw them playing from backstage and looked each other and said "well after the solos go,so will the riffs".Metal is not progressing and it is a fact. Its a joke now adays

  • @KINGARTHUR3341 It's funny, because Dimebag IS responsible for most of the no-talent hacks playing dumbed-down, simplistic music that is ruining Metal music today. And Zakk Wylde isn't much better, shitty guitar player who over-uses pinch harmonics.

Metal never progressed. THAT'S it's greatest strength. There's still Thrash Metal, Death Metal, Doom Metal, Black Metal, Speed, Power, traditional Heavy Metal. It's good, and people like it that way, so they keep coming back.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow Sorry but pantera is not to blame for all the Dumb down metal music, Its record companies, new music, time and the inability to adapt. And lets for a second take your extreme (illogical) view and say pantera is responsible, where is the evidence? For this you have to look at all the shitymetal bands music. Most modern metal bands use drop tunnings (drop d) for either to write easy fucking riifss or to try to sound more brutal. Not only that, they have a false image to go along

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow your wrong. Metal progressed. The problem is that it stopped progressing allooooonnggg time ago. Concerning new bands, Guitarists could get better, incorporate different styles into their music, dont follow the trend.Thats why i have a problem with genres like death (which i like) , black (not a fan), doom because bands already choose a side and their closemindedness doesnt allow them to improve , its just the same old story.

  • @KINGARTHUR3341 Also. Kirk Hammett? That guy is the most boring and predictable guitar player ever. Van Halen wasn't even Metal. Randy Rhoads, while a good player, is fairly overrated.

But you're bitching about talent not existing now? Look at the main culprit: Pantera, who popularized music that was just dumbed-down Thrash Metal, required little-to-no skill, and focused on being heavy, instead of actually having content. Even the hardest Death Metal band has more content than Panterrible.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow Randy Rhoads Overrated? Right...Randy Rhoads pretty much knew the ins and outs of composition which brought he to his music. Not only was he dynamic, he didnt rely on the legato like the populars guitarists of the time. He had no real threat. The material he composed is extremely difficult to match, most of what megadeth did (my favorite band) is not even on par to what he did. For christ sakes he incorporated classical music in his style, yngwie did it after. He is underrated.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow The old bands can keep doing what they want, but new bands should stop trying to immitate them and sound like them.

  • @KINGARTHUR3341 I don't like Slipknot, but of course they're metal... Double bass drumming, down-tuned guitars and basses, screaming, growling, etc, is proof enough that they're metal. And Lam of God?? Well... Lamb of God is the ONLY modern metal band regarded by many musicians (Slayer, Metallica, Mike Portnoy) to be in the same level or at least near the legendary metal bands, like Pantera. And they don't call themselves "death". They have even stated A LOT of times they're not "death" metal

  • @mrbig71014 bands like slipknot, to me, represents a way of the music industry trying to exploit a generally small but closed music genre. Just look at their target audience, its marketed torwards kids that never even heard metal. Since when is metal a bunch of stage theatrics and image with overly simplistic music? Metal is meant to be challenging to play, not easy.

  • @KINGARTHUR3341 I agree with you in that they're music is simplistic, in general, but not easy to play. As a guitar player myself, I 'll tell ya that, at least for me, they're harder to play than Black Sabbath, Slayer, Mastodon, Anthrax, Dio, and some other bands considered "metal".... My idea of "metal" is that it has to be hard, heavy, dark, not challenging to play, and the people playing it don't have to look like vikings or cavemen. But i agree that they have been exploited the way you said.

  • @mrbig71014 Instead of metal taking a step forward, it took a step backwards. Guitarists like van halen and randy rhoads, kirk hammet dont exist anymore , guitarists that spearheaded the way to improve the metal genre by creative and technical means. You dont see that anymore because talent has been thrown out the window when it comes to making it big. And about other metal genres: alot of them are crap because they steal from other metal genres with no originality.

  • @KINGARTHUR3341 Well, that's a normal (not "better") thing to happen. The only period in music history in which that kind of musicians "made it" in rock or metal, was THEIR time. You're right, and i hate it too, in that the talent has been thrown out, but we can help to point out talent where there's talent. We can also appreciate other genres of music and other musicians to help metal improve and be original, which is what guys like John Petrucci, Marty Friedman or Nuno Bettencourt did

  • @KINGARTHUR3341 There are many modern musicians, relatively young, that are great: Joe Bonamassa, Jeff Loomis, Chris Broderick, Myles Kennedy, M Shadows, Synyster Gates, Gus G, Andy James, Daniel Addair are a few examples. Despite their bands and ages, they've all made in the past 10 years, and are VERY talented... Still, I prefer a band like Slipknot to be successful than really talentless shit like (forget Lady Gaga or Justin Bieber, at least they sing on records and dance) fucking DJs...

  • @mrbig71014 ANother thing.

Double bass drumming, down-tuning, harsh vocals?

So what? Every fucking Punk sub-genre since the 80's is Metal, too? Anyone who honestly believes THAT is what makes Metal Metal, doesn't know what the fuck Metal is and needs to shut up.

  • @iluvpigeons "Please feel free to join me in tearing this severely uneducated idiotic cunt to shreds" You see, this kind of unnecessary violence that is more common amongst brainless apes who haven't a shred of intelligence or the ability to debate in them, not Metalheads, would have never existed if it weren't for bands like Pantera and Lamb of God bringing forth the idea that you have to be a bunch of try-hard macho man cunts to be into Metal.

  • @iluvpigeons Also, you're the one who needs to educate yourself if you think that modern metal/-core shit is the only thing that's Metal. Fucking poser, fuck off and die. I wouldn't be surprised if you were a mallrat who buys everything Metal Hammer tries to pass off as "Metal".

  • Now that's what I call a poser. Also, that wasn't Metal.

Going to American Idol is the first step to NOT be metal at all.

  • ZAKK WYLDE FTW

  • he sounds like the singer from southgang, check him out

  • In response to "That wasn't metal" comment, that was the theme song to a cult classic movie "Heavy Metal" in 1981. You were probably nothing more than an idea to your parents but, back then, that was Heavy Metal. Although it has evolved, it still remains the foundation of what Heavy Metal is built on today. Quickly judging this to not be Heavy Metal is like saying Elvis is not Rock n Roll.....

  • @howardlambert1

I dont understand why you have to be disrespectful but yeah this is heavy metal

  • haha they call this metal

  • Hmm. Pretty Metal.

  • @jake1585 so metal is growling? You obviously don't listen to much Maiden or Priest or Sabbath.

  • @edwinsalvatore well i dont think iron maiden is that much metal I think its a fine line to it but its still hard rock, because the guitars sound different in a metalsong rather than a iron maiden song, though iron maiden have problalby made at least one metal song but they have their own sound compared to todays metalbands. but i think we all can agree that in this video it aint metal, its hardrock

  • @zyriuz2 Iron Maiden has been a Heavy Metal band since 1980. Just because they don't sound like some try-hard cunts in some shitty wannabe Metal band today, makes them not Metal?

    Eat shit, poser.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow Respect.

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow 1975, actually! Iron Maiden wasn't released until 1980, though. They were writing songs like Transylvania and Phantom of the Opera while even the great Priest were writing Saints in Hell and White Heat, Red Hot. All great tunes, but Maiden helped push things to that next level!

  • @ThazuaBlackarrow metal has changed over the years, as everything changes the sound, look and overall taste will surely move along with the times. as much as i love those guys i still love metal today. besides. Iron Maiden is old school. guys like Lamb Of God are Groove Metal, Gorogroth is Black Metal and the list goes on and on.....,. No offence intended, just thought id put my voice out there......

  • @zyriuz2

I have read a lot of irrational comments during my lifetime on youtube/forums/ interwebs BUT NEVER HAVE I EVER heard such blasphemy as I have read today. This isn't just coming from a crazy fan boy, through i also love ironmaiden. I've done my fair share of music history classes in university and every class as cited iron maiden as a milestone in heavy metal history. Hell my grandma who's from china knows that iron maiden is a heavy metal band!

  • @54mojojojo its absolutley not heavy metal.

  • @zyriuz2

That may or may not be true but that has no bearing on my previous comment anyways now does it. Or was this your sad attempt at coming up with any meaningful rebuttal?

  • @54mojojojo I don't give a damn fuck about what you think! but apparently you do care about what I think... A metal guitar sound have a sharper sound than the guitars in iron maiden, wich makes em not metal but more hard rock, and i hate how fucking everyone is arguing about metal n rock anyway alot of people have their opinions, metal is a very wide word so its hard to draw an exact line between hard rock n metal, but since you are so damn good defining that, go write a damn book! bitch! D:

  • @GoCeltics734 this isn't Judas Priest's song. This song was originally sung by Sammy Hagar. And whatever man, even if James likes glam metal, he sure as hell doesn't growl and stuff cos I absolutely despise inaudible singing. His style is very much influenced by Halford and Ronnie, man. They are true heavy metal singers!

  • I wish all of you close-minded idiots would realize that just because it isn't some growling death-gore-grind mess doesn't mean it's not metal. Glam metal was still metal. And honestly, if you have to argue over what genre is and isn't metal, you don't even know what the hell Metal is about. Okay, I said it, I'm done. That is all.

  • @BassPlayerBedwell Glam Metal was pop rock that had the "Metal" label slapped on it by MTV so it would sell more. It was a fucking commercial trend that tried to feed off the popularity of real Metal. No one in their right mind would call Cinderella a Metal band, they were fucking softer than KISS, and people called THEM a pop rock band.

  • to all the idiots claiming this song isn't metal, this is originally a JUDAS PRIEST song.

black and death metal is not the only sub-genre of metal.

  • wow the ohly thing good about this is Zak Wyld and this is the worst show on tv nobody on it can sing and when they "win" the dissappear

  • That wasn't metal... It was good, but seriously he should have just called it hard rock. -.-

  • @jake1585

He did 3 Judas Priest songs on the show (2 with Metal Gods themselves)

  • @jake1585 are you fucking crazy? this IS metal.

  • @jake1585 You are a fucking idiot. You think Ozzy is metal? You think AC/DC is metal? Of course you don't because you're an idiot. This is Sammy Hagar. Sorry early metal can't be like your Megadeth, Godsmach or Lamb of God.

  • @jake1585 are you serious?? ACDC us hard rock, metal was about the heavy riff's, for example, black sabbath, metallica, they are metal. 22 people are idiots.

  • @jake1585 listen to black sabbath Judas priest iron maiden the bands that are credited with creating the genre he sounds similar to them and Zakk Wyld wouldnt be up there with him if he didnt think James was metal

  • @jake1585 lol there are tons of different types of metal. that was "heavy metal" not that slipknot "death metal" bulshit. this is real metal. fuck off

  • @jaffemaster lol wow Slipknot is not death metal. Not even close.

  • Nice

  • zakk wylde on american idol ? ? ? ? ? ? ? i think i just threw up

  • you call that metal? LOL

  • Zakk Wylde on American Idol?

I don't want to live on this planet anymore.

  • He should have won! AMERICA OPEN UP AND EXCEPT METAL AS THE DOMINATE GENERA OF THE PLANET!!!

  • HOLY SHIT ZACK WYLDE DAMN THAT GUYS A BEAST

  • Omg zake

  • james durbin is an incredibal singer and those 44 people (dislikes) have no taste in good music

  • I voted for this guy 1600 times...I LOVE HIM!

  • Its rock. NOT Metal. If all you metalheads were smart, you should know. Derp. Or its just hard rock. Somewhere between Rock and Metal.

  • @Wolfyxxx91 Being a long time hard rock, heavy metal/death metal etc... blah blah blah fan i must ask you... who the fuck cares?

  • @Alive4Metal haha. No one cares wat u say too. fuk off

  • @Wolfyxxx91 clearly you are dim witted and closed minded you failed to grasp what I was trying to tell you, let me simplify it, NO ONE CARES about all those stupid sub genres, music is music, sound waves, etc...

  • @Alive4Metal Thank you for simplifying it jackass.

  • @Wolfyxxx91 You realize that metal is a form of rock, right? And this song would be classified specifically as 80's Hair Metal anyway...

  • @SchuttMeNow Yeah, i know. I cant believe i actually posted up that comment. I was probably high wen i put that xD

  • James is defintally in the top 10 best contestants within all 10 seasons of American Idol. That's pretty damn good.

  • This is the best he ever did. and thats saying something because hes amazing.

  • wow, this guy blew this song...what a bad take on this song. I guess Zakk needs to pay the bills too

  • your so sexy

  • THIS IS NOT FUCKING METAL THIS IS HORRIBLE!

  • Omg you suck
