  • thank you for this video...loved his books and bought some in early seventies at the Gotham Book Mart. Never knew his house became a museum. Lovely job on this video.

  • I'd love to visit his house! Also, that "Edward Gorey's mailbox!" at the beginning made me laugh out loud, as did the random cat.

  • @WaitersAreTraitors Thanks! I enjoyed the mailbox. It seems so trivial but knowing gorey went to it everyday and that the outside world came to him through it, well, it was just neat to think of!

  • @WaitersAreTraitors I had the same reaction when seeing the mailbox. Would have missed the CAT if it hadn't been for you. Thanks

  • As I'm smelling the sweet smell of heads shrinking in my oven (don't worry- they are made from apples..) I love that I found this video. Thank you for filming this before it went away. Now I need to go watch everything I can find on this man..

  • Does anyone know if Edward Gorey and Charles Addams ever met? Oh how I would love to see their interaction!

  • i have to check this out some time gorey was an absolute genious

  • i can't wait to see it. i don't know when, but i must.

  • i love it his work was so sweet and thoughtful

  • He Is A Truly Unique Man Because he made a rhyming abc book but scary...

  • I really cannot thank you enough for posting this...one day I will visit the house myself, but until then I'll be kept satisfied by your wonderful film.

  • Aw thanks. I am glad you liked the film!

  • The fact is that Gorey's art was definitely not for the masses. And that is part of the beauty of his work. He's not all "sweetness and light". And his storytelling....!

What a wonderful house for a Gorey fan to see. And the cat (given Gorey's love for cats) was the perfect touch.

Thank you for this wonderful look into the home of a master.

  • You're welcome! I'm glad you enjoyed the look!

  • thank you so much...

  • No problem. I'm glad you dug it!

  • WOW!! Real Figbash and "Les Passementeries Horribles" !

There are a lot of things that I want. I like Gorey's works. so I want to go there too.

  • My mom works there :D

  • Tell your mom that she's definitely got the coolest job ever. Charlie P says so!

  • Have you been there lately!? IT LOOKS NOTHING LIKE THIS NOW! :D they have added so much! And they have a new cat.

  • I haven't been there since this visit! Now I feel I must certainly go back! Hahah, cool. Thanks for the update.

  • Any time.

  • so who turned the doubtful guest into a song?

i was going to meet edward gorey in 2000, ironically he died. he was a friend of my mom's friend and lived less than an hour away from me.

i went to his house and got a doubtful guest shirt there. too bad he was so aloof.

  • !!!!!!!!! I want to go there.

  • Forgive me, I'm a new-ish fan of Gorey's, but where did he live? I'd love to go visit his home!!

  • He lived in Cape Cod, so if that's near you, definitely check it out!

  • Crap, I was up there in August! If I only knew him then. I'm not near it now, but I soon will be. Thank you!

  • Wow. This is absolutely brilliant! I looooove Edward Gorey. I also happen to LOVE Robert Wyatt as well, so I'm even more pleased!

Thanks for sharing. This is pretty awesome.

  • I'm glad you like both edward Gorey and Robert Wyatt! They are both rather awesome. Wyatt's Gorey album is a great thing!

  • I'd love to go there!

  • I can't wait to go there. I love his art and he is probably one of my favorite people. Lived different, lots of style.

  • Yeah. Definitely was an awesome, awesome artist and person!

    -CAP

  • Lucky! I love his work!

  • Great job!!!!!!!!! Great house!!!!!!!!!

  • I love it...

  • Thank you CAP! I can't wait to see this place live. I know I selfishly thought I was his greatest fan - BTW - Don't u think the little tiny girl in the gigantic bed in Edward Scissorhands was an inspiration from Mr. Gorey to Tim Burton? He probably inspired Tim in many ways.

  • Hey, thanks for the message. Sorry I am responding so late. I have been in Prague! Anyway, yeah, definite inspiration from Gorey towards Burton, for sure!

  • Lucky man. He was a brilliant artist. Definatley my style!

  • I believe you! I really really want to go there!I love his art! I love his books! I love his ideas!

  • I am glad you believe me. Heheheh, yes, you should go there, it's awesome.

  • You've gone mad CAP! You didn't really visit Edward Gorey's house, it was all a figment of your imagination!

  • Either you sir, are joking, or you did an extremely poor search on google for Gorey. Hahah. Very funny.

    -CAP

  • I went on Google looking for information on this Edward Gorey character and nothing came up.

  • Then I suppose you dont look properly.

  • Is this Edward Gorey real?

  • Uh, of course he is! This isn't a joke. Search for Edward Gorey on the internet, and you'll see examples of his awesome art. He's the best!

  • Gashly Crumbs are the coolest... what was with the scary cat!!

  • It was just a cat upstairs....Edward Gorey lived with many cats while he lived in the house. It was either one of those, though I doubt his cats would still be there after he died, so perhaps it was a caretaker's cat or such, but regardless, it was there! Staring at me!

    -CAP

  • he (the cat) definitely seemed to belong. it was only 3 years after mr. gorey's death when you filmed -- I'm sure he provided for his cats! perhaps the cat is one of the executors of the estate, or is on the board of museum directors.

it was the best shot in the film. thanks.

my favorite present this past christmas was the book "elephant house." I'm sure you have it but if not ... !!

  • oh, and the mailbox was a nice touch.

  • Thanks for the message! My apologies for responding so late...I have been in Prague! But yeah, the cat being around seemed so fitting...yes. And I do have the book. Great book!

And as for the mailbox, well I had to include it! Heheheh. Thanks again.

  • Heheheh. He's pretty cool, though I'd imagine pretty much the opposite of what most of his unaware fans woudl ever think he sounded like/acted like. Regardless, he's still pretty much one of the coolest people ever if you ask me!

    -CAP

  • his hosue contains.. cute scary things. that in itself is a bit of a scary paradox.

  • Sort of, though I dunno. Gorey himself never liked being called dark or spooky and he did draw some children's stuff as well as just various this and thats. Search youtube for some interviews with him, cause he's quite the character indeed!

    -CAP

  • yeah I watched a couple already. character sums it up.
