We need to return to President Eisenhower's 91% marginal tax (51% actual tax) on incomes above $400K ($3 million in today's dollars). Eisenhower used tax money to expand social programs in the name of national defense.

It's a mark of how corporate and reactionary our nation has become that the economic policies of this Republican president—supported by a Republican congressional majority for his first two years—would today be considered liberal.

@cobrafarmer There is no such thing as an income tax in the Constitution only excise & direct taxes. The graduated income tax is straight from the Communist Manifesto & illegally imposed on the people of this country via the Federal Reserve and their extortion collection agency the IRS. Corporations should be paying the bills for everything in this country with the exception of citizens paying excise taxes on certain goods. The Supreme Court ruled income is private property thus not taxable.

@mindmelt13 But the Constitution doesn't prohibit income tax. A progressive income tax like Ike's provides the best balance for corporate wealth and power that didn't exist in the 1780s. It helped build many public institutions that make our nation great, which Reaganism has been slowly dismantling.

Abolish the Fed: agreed. But the wealthy benefit more from US prosperity, and enjoy greater political power.  I say, let them be rich, but let those who earn over $4 million pay 50% actual tax.

@cobrafarmer The Supreme Court ruled that income is private property and that the 16th Amendment didn't give the government any authority to tax income other then what it says about direct( capital gains tax) & excise taxes on goods like gasoline, cigarettes etc. As far as people earning more then 4 million a year being taxed at 50% I don't agree, corporations make more money then individuals anyway, which would be a huge tax base to fund our schools, health care, infrastructure & more.

The Federal Reserve Act (6 months later) began the transformation from money that could be help privately to corporate bills (aka corporate property). Once circulated throughout the U.S. the IRS was born to collect the corporate income of anyone using corporate currency, Federal Reserve Notes, private corporate property. Thus any gain achieved via the Fed's notes IS corporate income=tax.

So Goldman Sachs is evil? My friend works there. She grew up in a working class family and did well in school and got accepted to Harvard and studied economics. She later served two years in the peace corps teaching rural villagers in Africa to boil water before they drink it and the fundamentals of sustainable agriculture. She now works at Goldman. Goldman sends so many people to the White House because, quite frankly, they are of the few who are qualified to run a nation.
